We spoke with the Singer representative ... moreand she said a machine this old didn't have a model name or number-that it was just called a"Standard" However, in the literature I have seen since, I notice model 12 New Family machines that are nearly identical to this one. The representative did confirm the 1871 date. The decals are still remarkably intact for a machine that is 142 years old. They represent the"Acanthus Leaves" pattern. The machine has a coffin top. Two-drawer cabinet and a set of attachments, including two original bobbins, bobbin winder"spoon, tucker, binder, seam guide, quilting bar(not pictured) and a wooden case of needles. It also has an extra open-boat shuttle that I have not tested. As it has a slightly different shape from the one that was in the machine. Two extra bobbin winders came with the machine, and will be included. A reprint of the Model 12 manual is also included. Size: At 16" deep x32" wide x40" high. Including top, the machine cabinet is rather diminutive, which I liked because it fits in small spaces. Markings: The Singer logo is present on both sides of the cast iron treadle base. The medallion on the machine's forward side says"Singer Mfg Co N Y Trademark. The front and back of the machine head say"Singer" and the top says"Singer Manufacturing Company" The Serial number is 868385. This very old Singer"Table Top" for an 1870 Model 12 Fiddlebase Sewing Machine was found at an estate sale. It is just as I found it. I haven't restored or cleaned it in fear I might ruin some of the original Patina. The Table Top is complete, with its brass hardware, drip pan, and drawer. The table top is showings its age with all the nicks, skuffs, and dark spots, still, its structurally sound with no wood lifting. The Table Top originally housed a fiddle base machine with serial number 428402 329402. There are remnants of a Boston newspaper from January 1895(photos 11& 12) which were folded in the drawer, I am including them in the auction, all are old and brittle. This is a Singer Vintage Hand Cranked Sewing Machine. From a local estate. I don't know much about it? I think this is a model 12? Has two stamped numbers of 4792721& 1086921. See photo. Poor. Damaged. Read details below before bidding. Cosmetics-Body chassis has a long repaired crack that goes completely through the body. See photos. A couple metal shafts and screws hold it together from the bottom side. Dusty/dirty from sitting around. Chips in the paint and heavy wear. Wood shaft that you hold to crank the machine is bent. Appears to be missing some smaller accessories. No lid for the case. Wood base part has some cracks. Machine turns when cranked but is stiff to move. See lots of pictures of what you are getting. 1882 Singer Model 12 Fiddlebase Mother-o-Pearl New Family Treadle Sewing Machine
This is a wonderful original Singer model 12"New Family" treadle sewing machine dating from 1882 with a serial number beginning with 5 million 100 thousands. I am pretty sure it is the first set of numbers that is the serial number on these. So going by the Singer chart, this would be correct as the second set of numbers would make it older. This model is the"fancy" fiddlebed style with the real mother-of-pearl inlay insets making it VERY beautiful! It is in working condition, very free-moving and complete, including the often-missing bobbin winder, slide plates, shuttle, and a bobbin! This machine has a real wooden pitman, all-original and unbroken as often happens over time. The solid wooden top has a flip-up extension on the left side, but there is no swing-out support for it and doesn't appear to have a place where ... moreone was attached, so I'm not sure on that. There are 2 drawers, though the top one is stuck right now, and I can't get it out without force so would rather just leave it for now. This model has the"coffin top" cover/lid that keeps the machine dust-free, though it is missing one of the little metal plates that the 2"fingers" slide into. However, the coffin top has one issue and that is that I dropped it while applying lemon oil to it, and it cracked the top on 2 sides from top to bottom. It is pictured after this happened, and for now, I am not going to glue it back just yet since someone may prefer to do their own regluing of choice, though I can certainly do this for the winning bid if preferred as I do have the proper clamps and wood glue to do so. It is complete and not noticeable if held together like when reglued. These coffin tops are often seen on ebay for $30-60 if a replacement is preferred, but it is included and would be fine to use. This machine was displayed in an old sewing machine store which I bought in 2005 and has been kept indoors since then as well, always in a smoke-free environment. This is an antique. Collectible SINGER hand crank sewing machine model#12. It was manufactured in England between 1888-1898. Very rare violin base, Ottoman Carnation design. Sometimes called Peacock or Orange slice design. This is an antique machine that still sews and is quiet. The wooden dome cover shows its age. For its age the machine has been well taken care of. The thing to remember is that with an item this old/antique it is not in pristine condition; there are some scratches on the cover, some scratches on the machine itself, but nothing that detracts from the overall look, design, or functionality. The machine was tested when first purchased and has been oiled, but was never used an as actual sewing machine- it was a collectible and purchased as such. This antique Singer sewing machine is the model 12(made in N.Y. And is known to have been produced in the early 1870’s. All of the mechanisms and components of the machine move very smoothly. The shuttle and long bobbing are both ok. There is a detachable handle, but one of the“years“ where the handle is lodging is broken. Also the bobbing winder has a part missing, and these two things can be seen in the pictures. Everything else works fine. It’s amazing to see a still functioning sewing machine that is 140 years old. Very few units are currently available on the market which makes this machine a unique piece to have. I have no caring case. SINGER MODEL 12 FIDDLEBASE HAND CRANK SEWING MACHINE--VICTORIAN DRESS MAKING
Offered here for sale is a lovely example of a Model 12 Singer hand crank sewing machine. The serial#s on the plate are 6729097(top row) and 1618297(bottom row) I believe this dates it around 1885? Machine is clean and functions smoothly. There is some light wear to the decals from use but overall in very nice working condition. The only thing I could find missing on it was one of the iron hooks on the wooden cover where it attaches to the base(see photo) This should not be hard to replace and does not effect the look or operation of this lovely machine. I had planned to use it for historic sewing demonstrations but plans change; now it is offered for sale.

Description Offered is an amazing little Singer model 12 treadle sewing machine moving freely with its original attachments. Manual and needles. It also has 2 bobbin boat cases and a bobbin. This treadle head has its original needle clamp and all its plates as well as its bobbin winder. The hindges attaching it to the treadle table are in place but not attached. This does not seem to affect the operation of this machine. It has very nice mother of pearl inlay and gold decals. All the mother of pearl is present and much but not all the accent gold is still there. These decorations were made for the high end market. This machine comes with its treadle base and coffin top with inlayed logo marquetry almost entirely intact in solid shape but not quite mint. There is a small piece of the logo missing. There are no major cracks or brakes but a ... morefew stains and one tight check on the top. And a small gouge under top rim. Hardwear is in place. This treadle head has its original needle clamp and all its plates. The hindges attaching it to the treadle table are in place but not attached. It comes with 2 original bobbin boat shuttles and a bobbin spool. The bobbin winder works as it should with its replacement rubber wheel. Its serial# is on the stitch length adjuster and dates this machine to January 1881. The mechanisms move freely and are in good working condition showing no visible rust. I will be includung 2 wood pitman arms as shown. Both will work the machine but one has a screw split at one end and what looks like a reglue. the other is fully intact. 1877 Singer Model 12 New Family Fiddlebase Sewing Machine
Great little barn find here. Per the serial number of 2,678,341 this machine was produced in 1877. It is a Singer New Family, also known as a Model 12 or Fiddlebase machine. It does turn by hand without any great difficulty, which I found surprising from its appearance. I have made no attempt to clean or refurbish it. While it would certainly be a candidate for restoration, given the condition it seems more likely to be a parts machine and I've priced it accordingly. This one was set up for treadle use and does not have the drive release on the rear wheel. According to the internet that's what the hinged section on the belt shroud controlled although I'm not clear how. This is a nice feature and this machine has it. Earlier models and most of the ones you see do not. I have gotten this machine to sew but to use as an everyday machine it will need a little work- left slide plate and bobbin wheel. Cosmetic wear. There very little rust on the machine(no appearance of being"barn kept" or weathered) but there is japanning loss along the edge, paint splash and the steel parts could use a good cleaning. Singer Model 12 Fiddlebase Mother-of-Pearl Treadle Sewing Machine-Fixer-Upper!
This listing is a very interesting one for the sewing machine collector who enjoys a challenge! This machine is an authentic Singer model 12 fiddlebase sewing machine in a treadle floor cabinet. This was a barn find at a Missouri boot heel estate sale. And it is in the same condition it was when I bought it. I had high hopes of making this into a"project" but I just have way too many young children to get any time in the near future to ever work on this. This machine was once a very expensive beauty, owned by a family who probably was well-off or spent years paying for this on the Singer installment plan. It is a rare model and type of cabinet to find locally, and I am not really sure what to even call this cabinet type. It isn't exactly an enclosed parlor cabinet, but it definitely is not the standard-issue cast iron treadle ... morebase. This cabinet has 3 drawers on each side with space above it on the right for part of the treadle mechanism. And I'm not sure what the space is for above the left side drawers, but there is a metal tray that fits the area above the drawers. The drawers do not have pulls, and they definitely need some work, BUT, they are there and definitely fixable. The cabinet itself has an open center back and enclosed sides with a fold-out extension for the top of the cabinet, but there is no support leg for it. The cabinet bottom and top especially are pretty much trashed with termite and water damage, and they would basically need replaced with new wood, but they could be used for measurements, etc. to make new pieces. The machine head itself is definitely able to be restored to use. It is really dirty, but this was the fanciest style Singer model 12 head with the real mother-of-pearl inlay designs! Some of the inlays are missing, but many are there. I have not attempted to clean the machine at all since each sewing machine restorationist has his/her own methods and normally prefers to have the original items untouched. Restored 1870 Singer Model Class 12 New Family MOP Treadle Sewing Machine Sews

That Sews fairly well. this treadle sewing machine head has been: thoroughly Cleaned& polished(all parts. Gears, springs, metal) Repaired(where needed) Restored, Serviced/Oiled and perhaps improved in some ways. this machine is complete. i added a new needle, red spool pin felt, rubber bobbin winder tire and i replaced the feed dogs spring. i replaced the 10 oval mother of pearl inlays that were wearing away or slightly damaged. the two original non-oval MOP inlays in the center of the machine have not been replaced. i added leaves around what appeared to be an original yellow flower similar to the one i repainted inside them. the two gold ovals on the belt guard have been repainted without the curved lines they had on ... morethem. this machine appears to have been made in 1870 based on Singer's own website serial#s list. this machine appears to have been produced just prior to first#s they post, which again would be 1870. the left brass slide plate has several patent dates on it: from Sept 10 1846 to Oct 9 1855. one of the reasons the stitches of this machine are still a little rough. Tough to balance and/or a little inconsistent is from the hole on the side of the shuttle that i repaired. the hole is not as large as the grey JB Weld compound i used on the outside to cover it. i added a piece of metal to fill part of the hole in the shuttle and i added some aluminum tape to the inside/bobbin side as i covered the outside. the outside has been sanded, but it still provides more resistance to the upper thread passing over it than it would with an un-repaired metal surface. this is the first(oldest) sewing machine that i've seen that has upper tension discs. these discs work, but this kind of tension system was just beginning to be used and so there was room for improvement. so, with the repaired shuttle(threading it for lower tension is tricky as well regardless.that's just the way th

It's serial number(5094120/964120) has a manufacturing date of 1883. The only thing I did to it was clean the many years of dust on it. The black paint has some scuffs and minimal paint loss. Decals are worn. Everything moves smoothly when the Balance Wheel is turned, including the Shuttle Mechanism. The under side of the machine has some surface rust that should clean up nicely with some fine steel wool. Needle is missing, but there should be no reason the machine would not operate properly. The overall approximate dimensions of the machine are 16 1/2" x 8" x 8 7/8" high. Included in the sale is a custom made oak base. This machine would make a great conversation piece as a display ... moreitem in its Oak Base. I did not fasten the machine to the base, because someone might want to use the machine in their Original Singer Cabinet. If desired, it could be adhered to the base with a few drops of epoxy. This Vintage Singer Model 12(1873) Treadle Sewing Machine"Walnut Coffin Cover" was part of a machine that was found at an auction. It is in good condition with some nicks. Scratches, and a insignificant horizontal crack on the top. The color, a dark walnut, is uniform throughout. It is structurally sound with no lifting or loose wood. All the Brass Hardware is in place and is in good condition, including the Lock which operates properly. It also has the Original Singer Label on the inside of the top. The center to center spacing on the Brass Positioning Hardware is 10 3/4" and the distance of this hardware to the lock is 10 3/4" The overall approximate dimensions of the Cover is 17 1/4" X 11 1/4" X 9 1/2"H If your looking for a good Cover for your Singer Treadle.
