Victorian Adjustable Book Or Bible Stand Cast Iron And Wood
Up for auction is a beautiful Victorian cast iron and wood bookstand. All the parts are here. Many I've seen have casters or at least the legs taper into what look like a part that would go into a caster. These legs do not have that feature. The right side wooden leaf has a crack running the length of it. This was my aunt's and she always loved to display her gigantic old dictionary. She passed away a few years ago and I'm finally down to parting with it. I can't provide a maker on this or an actual date of production. I've merely compared it to some I've seen here on eBay. That said. The item will be sold"as is" and I am unable to offer a return policy. If you would like*any* info more than is apparent with the pictures please message me. The gasket that goes over the top of the legs to hold it together does work though it needs a little coaxing to fit over the gathered parts. Both wooden sides move back and forth as well as closing and locking in place. Not sure if the screws on the side that has the crack are original. The ones on the other side do look original. I do not believe the wood has been refinished. Age-appropriate wear throughout on both the wood and the metal. I have excellent feedback and have been providing buyers with quality antiques. There are two cast iron loops on either side to hang this on the wall. In addition there are a couple holes in the wood where it was secured. This likely dates back to the late 1800's or early 1900's. This is in solid condition and ready for use. Both the wood and the hooks do show some age which adds to its primitive charm.
