Late Victorian walnut floor coat/hat racks are hard to find. This solid walnut coat/hat rack is c. 1890-1910. It appears to be in the original finish with a consistent patina. There are no repairs or breaks that I have found. The brass ball is in great shape. I am not sure if there was a finial of some type that went on top of the brass ball. The metal claw feet that holds each of the four walnut balls are in great shape(please see applicable picture) Each of the six turned spindles are also in great found condition. A beveled 13 1/2" square angled mirror and four Gargoyle hat/coat hooks adorn this beautiful piece. The back of the mirror is marked'B& Co. 1895' The 22" x 14 1/4" seat opens to an 8" deep storage area. Up for auction is this exquisite antique hat and coat rack. I could see this in a fine clothing shoppe or gentleman's parlor. Just so beautifully made and quite ingenious. Too. The four hat stands plus all the pegs swing open and close to desired position. Made of mahogany wood, it has survived in wonderful condition. There is some age to the finish as shown, as well as one bottom peg was replaced sometime during its life. I think this adds to the charm of the item, but you are to decide. With the hat stands in the straight out position, the rack measures approx. 38" w x 30 1/2" h x 8" d. Hat, coat rack i have ever owned. it is presented in its original finish. i do not believe there is a piece missing anywhere and if there is any damage of any kind it is so small i have over looked it. at any rate, a wonderful cherry stick and ball hanging mirror with hat and coat hooks, 6 or them. the mirror is bad, however, it is original. if i sell it and the new owner wants me to remove the old silver and back the old glass with a new mirror i will do so for the cost of a new mirror. that would be less than 20 dollars, probably about 12.00. the mirror is 12 inches by 12 inches. the piece is 32 inches wide and 24 inches tall. it has a nicely carved crest at the top. all the fret work is perfect as far as i can tell. the very nice all brass hooks are 4 inches long and a couple have minor ... morebends in them, which could be corrected with little effort. the back over the mirror was a bit loose so i took it off so i could re nail it. in doing so, i discovered and newspaper which was the philadelphia ledger and was dated like 1884 i think, it should show in the picture i have listed. anyway, this paper was folded to keep the mirror from moving within the frame. i do not know if that was placed there when the piece was made and done so at a later date. at any rate, the mirror probably was made or originated in or about philadelphia. it is a fantastic piece, the pictures are terrible, it is 100 times nicer in person. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyers expense. i expect it will go usps for about 30 or 40.00. good luck

They were located on the famous Tottenham Road, also known as furniture road. Here we have a lovely antique railroad coat hook- hat rack.Tthe wood is old and cracked but when mounted with the existing screws is still sturdy on the wall. The wood measures 30" x 3 5/8" It has five nicely decorated iron double hooks connected with steel rods and thin wire caging. So of the thin wire caging is bent. The top hook sticks out about 2 1/8" from the base and the bottom hook sticks out about 1 1/4" from the base. The top rack part sticks up about 6" from the base. The rack appears to have been painted black long ago and the wood has several holes drilled in it(not original) The rack has rust and stains and wear( seems age appropriate- No damage at all to the hooks-PLEASE SEE ALL 12 ENLARGEABLE PHOTOS. Two side panel prints are decorated with hanging dead game birds Woodcock. Quail, and Dove Scene on one side and Rabbit and Grouse Scene on the other side. The dead game prints both show some water damage at the bottom edge. There is a lot of damage to the wooden frame such as many marks, scratches, abrasions, scuffs, cuts, stains, and very small dry wood cracks and chips. It still retains the original hangers but a few of the screws holding them on have been replaced. The inside middle panel section is a mirror with no cracks and no chips but it does have discoloration. The left side panel section of the 3 birds has clear glass covering it with no cracks and no chips but the right side panel section is missing the glass. VINTAGE CONDITION SHOWING HEAVY SIGNS OF WEAR& USAGE AND A LOT OF DAMAGE BUT IT IS STILL"VERY SOLID" AND IS NOT FALLING APART AT ALL SO IT CAN STILL BE HUNG UP AND USED AGAIN!
