Hello and welcome to my auction Here we have a very rare item indeed A huge 15 inch tall ships wheel barometer Maker stamped on the front Thompson 24 Manchester st. Liverpool which from looking into was re developed and the road as long gone where once the opticians stood but please by all means do a bit of your own investigation work. I did buy this barometer from a famous auction house from Liverpool so it's the first time it's left liverpool and it would be nice to go back to its roots saying this who ever places the highest bid wins this beauty Size of this beauty is 15 inch tall and 14 inch wide with a depth of 4 inch the actual wheel is 2 inch thick that's including the front plaque with the sea serpent on Within the middle we have the barometer with a brass surround. Bevelled edge glass all covering the white old dial depicting ... morethe old original scales stormy/ rain/ change/ fair/ very dry/ fall for sw.ly. Except wye from n.east rise reaumur scale just below the original thermometer ranging from 20 to 160 Fahrenheit scale( which is still working great) barometer is still working just tap the glass every day to see if the pressure as change and what the weather should be that day also brass pointer still moves freely to record previous settings Now we have the wheel with its 11 spindles in total all original Condition of the item all in all for a item of 140 years of age is untrue but here goes Middle top spindle is missing half of its surround at the base and another one is too missing its surround at the base also there was a hairline split in the wood about 2 inch in length which is at the left hand side of the serpent at the front which I re glued to stop the split moving anymore and filled with coloured wax which I must say looks better than it did basically that's about it other than small bits here and there from over the years of use she still looks the business and is very solid for what it is There is one hole at each side on top of the wooden plinth. GOLDEN OAK THOMPSON AND SONS WALL BAROMETER THERMOMETER
For your consideration is an circa 1900 antique barometer/thermometer. The unit has a partial paper label marked THOMPSON& SONS. To me it looks like someone has refinished the unit.there is no high gloss finish on the oak as I would think there should be. The barometer face has a paper label that has a stain above the 29.2 mark. The barometer also has a beveled glass face and the thermometer works. I know the barometer used to work a few years back however the paper face doesn't appear to be flat and I think the needle gets hung up on the paper now.
