Antique Industrial Iron and Mahogany Dictionary Bible Book Stand 1900s
19th century book stand by L.W. NOYES. CHICAGO embossed in the cast iron book rack of this stand. see pic) Adjustable angles. Measures 42in tall x 19in wide. A retrofitted spring has been implemented on the left leaf to hold the rack open. It does not spring shut however but manually folds closed. Works fine to hold books in place and is fully functional for large map books and dictionaries. Light scuffs in the mahogny of the panel leafs but these can be waxed/polished away. This stand does not come apart so it is all one piece as a piece of furniture. L. W. Noyes Dictionary Stand with wood book leaves on a gold painted cast iron base. This piece has four beautiful cabriole cast iron legs with wood castors and a book rack to hold extra volumes. The book rack is marked“L.W. Noyes Chicago. The finish on this piece is totally original and has simply been wiped off to clean off accumulated dirt and dust. It even has the red felt piece in the middle to protect the book spine. There is still part of the label remaining on the left side which would have shown all of the individual parts of the stand for reorder and repair. Everything on this is in perfect working condition. Including the screws, springs and levers. The wood book leaves can be folded up. The height is somewhat adjustable and the angle for the book paddles is adjustable. The bottom is cast iron with a nickel plated brass cover and between the two is a cloth covered wood turning, with the original 1800s cloth. The stand is fully adjustable for angle of tilt by a large thumb screw. Measures approx. 16” H x 8” W. The brackets extend 2 ¾” This is a very high quality stand. There is a split on one side of the wooden slat and a few chips and a break to the metal underneath which is shown in the picture. It still works fine and performs all functions.
