Antique 19th Century Old Cast Iron Wood Book Stand Kalamazoo Book Holder
Antique Book/Bible Stand manufactured by Ihling Brothers& Everard. Kalamazoo Michagan. This stand has not been restored and is not in perfect shape. There are some surface scratches on the bottom side of the wooden book support. Some missing screws. The picture that shows the bottom of the book support(3rd picture) you can see that the cast iron ear to the left is broken. Though it is broken the mechanism still functions fully. MAGNIFICENT! heirloom gift for that musician in the family. Fully adjustable height AND slant. Top holder is as ornate as they come. Grooved spindle rail across the top with Eastlake pinwheel at each end. In the center is a recessed panel with with another pinwheel and carved rays to the left and right. Solid cast iron base has 3 raised legs with paw feet. Thumb screws are used for height and slant adjustments. Height of shelf adjusts from 27 inches to 46 inches. Worn from use and may need a little grinding to help it snap into place better and lock. Easy fix for one knowledgeable of grinding metal. Missing the base and one wood book holder. Possibly another piece of pipe to extend taller depending what would have been with the base. Wood other book holder has varnish loss. Scuffs and scratches, few cracks. Pipe measures approx. 20 1/8" long not counting the cast iron piece connected to it. Book holder measures approx. 13 1/4" tall x 8 1/8" wide. We are offering for your consideration a n antique 1800s book stand/ photo holder. In excellent untouched originial condition. The upper part of the stand is made of nickel plated brass. The bottom is cast iron with a nickel plated brass cover and between the two is a cloth covered wood turning, with the original 1800s cloth. The stand is fully adjustable for angle of tilt by a large thumb screw. Measures approx. 16” H x 8” W. The brackets extend 2 ¾” This is a very high quality stand.
