Hi. You are bidding on an antique tea set in excellent condition. It is made from the finest porcelain coated with etched gold. The height of the teapot is about eight inches and the height of the little cups is a little over two inches. I cannot find a maker but there is a signature. Handwritten, on the bottom of two of the pieces. It looks like Obamy or Obame. There is also a mark in the gold that I photographed as well. This is a BEAUTIFUL tea set. It is definitely very old. It consists of four cups and saucers, one teapot, a sugar and creamer and four salt and peppers plus a tray for the sugar and creamer. The etched patterns look like Limoges but I really have no idea. The pattern is called Cottage and has flowers. Vines, and a cottage scene with a lake, a boat, and fishermen. The teapot and sugar bowl are marked Cottage. The teapot measures 4" high and 6.5" long from end of handle to end of spout. There is a chip under the neck rim and a knick on the inside rim. The sugar bowl measures about 3.5" high and 4.5" wide from end of handle to end of handle. It is marked Cottage and there are some nicks on the inside rim and some staining. The 3 cups and saucers some wear to the rims, but no chips or cracks. Each cup measurs 1.75" high and 2.75" across. The saucer is about 4.5" across. The decor appears asian inspired, perhaps cherry blossoms, in soft pink and brown taupe hand painted design over a dimpled textured round pot. There is crazing with dark aging that blends seemlessly with the decor. The botton shows decades of time have passed. No makers mark that i could find but the soft matte glaze and subtleness on this form is quite lovely.

This magnificent teapot was my great grandmother's and she purchased it somtime in the late 1930s or early 1940s. As she could recall, on a trip to the East. She owned it and displayed it along with her huge collection of teapots and tea sets until she passed away 22 years ago. It is porcelain and hand painted and in the most remarkable condition! c.1820's antique Staffordshire BLACK BASALT ceramic Teapot w/Spaniel finial lid
This c.1810-1830 black basalt teapot is called a"bachelor's" teapot because of its small size and measures 4 3/4" high to the top of the spaniel finial and its about 5" wide at mid section. This has a beautiful floral design throughout and has a dog finial on lid. It is unmarked but the pattern is similar to teapot designs made by Wedgewood during the early 1800's and copied by other Staffordshire pottery houses. Condition: one large chip on underside of lid which is barely visable on outside; some flea bites along rim of spout and one tiny nick on rim of main body and a barely noticeable hairline on bottom/base. The overall look is quite pleasing(see first two photos) and the fore mentioned issues are not noticeable unless you put it under scrutiny and a magnifier and take off the lid. Antique Grape Sprig Chelsea Ironstone Teapot , Sugar Bowl, and Creamer Set
Antique Teapot. Sugar bowl and creamer set in Grape Sprig Chelsea Ironstone. Teapot stands 8 3/4" tall with lid and measures 10 1/2" wide from handle to spout. In beautiful condition. The sugar bowl measures 7 1/2" tall. It stained brown on the inside and has one small chip in inside lip. See photo#7, chip is at 8 o'clock. The pitcher stands 5 1/2" at its tallest point. It is also in beautiful condition. All three pieces have some scuffing of the bottom from use and bumps on table I assume. The first kiln was set up at the present-day Yamanaka Onsen Kutani in the city. Upon discovery of high-quality potter's clay in the area. It was then known as kokutani. With bold-coloured designs characterized by its motifs of birds, flowers, mountains and water. Maeda Toshiharu ordered Goto Saijiro to go to Arita in Saga Prefecture to learn how to make porcelain. Maeda did this to increase his political and personal fortune. Recently, a theory has been put forward that most or all of the Kokutani ware was actually created in Arita rather than just influenced ... moreby the ceramics being created there. Kokutani enjoyed popularity for the next few decades until the Kutani suddenly closed down in 1730. The reasons for this closure are debated. Theories put forward include that supplies of the pigments necessary for the glazing were difficult to find. Or that there were financial difficulties. This period of production is now referred to as the Old Kutani( Kokutani) The site of Old Kutani porcelain kiln(right) the memorial to Goto Saijiro for Old Kutani ware(left) In 1810- some 80 years later- kutaniyaki was re-established. With the help of several kamamoto or production potters. New overglaze painting techniques from various kamamoto-es were infused in the development of kutaniyaki. 6 different overglazing techniques dominate the new form of kutaniyaki: the Mokubei style.
