It is in very good condition no dents hinge lid has a good firm fit. It is an imported piece of silver and is fully hallmarked for London 1892 and the Silversmith David Bridge also has the continental silver hallmarks possibly French? It has an engine turned decorated cover with a central blank cartouche and a floret design to the rim. The body is plain in contrast and the box sits on four cabriole shape legs. Another nice feature is the interior which is lined with a mauve velvet material. Probably replaced) The base is open with a thick card bottom attached to a weight for stability. On one side of the box are the hallmarks. And although fairly rubbed, they show that this lovely item was made in London in 1913. Unfortunately the makers mark is too rubbed to identify. Rare CARVED WHITBY JET and SILVER BOX London 1911 by WC Mansell mourning trinket
We are offering for sale a beautiful silver box with carved jet cover inset with a very pretty floral decorated plaque. This oval box has a gilt(gold-wash) interior and a reed and ribbon applied band to the base and cover. The Whitby jet is beautifully carved with flowers and swags. The inset plaque is made either from porcelain or black marble and is inlaid with different colours somewhat akin to pietra dura and shows lily of the valley and wood anenomes around a central white rose. Ordinarily we would suggest that this type of silver box would be used to hold small trinkets and jewellery. But in this instance the jet suggests a possible mourning connection and it was probably made to hold a sentimental token of a loved one. This is a rare and very beautiful hallmarked silver box. A Lavender Guilloche Enamel on Solid Silver Oval Trinket Box: London 1932
This lovely oval trinket box on four legs is just over 5 inches(13cm) by 3.75 inches(8.5cm) And 2.25 inches(6cm) high. Without its weighted base, it weighs 7oz(200g) The enamel decoration is of a star burst with a central oval decorated cartouche. All within a stylised foliate border. There is no damage or repair to the silver or enamel. Other than two short scratches- probably caused by a ring- please study the photos. No restoration. The lining was absolutely filthy so we have removed and cleaned it. It is all there, including the cording, apart from the stuffing.
