This is a lovely antique hallmarked sterling silver box with a shell and silver pique inlay lid measuring 3 1/4" 8 cms) across x 1 3/4" 4.5 cms) high and sitting on four feet. The silver is all in great condition and it's hallmarked for Birmingham 1911 with the silversmiths mark for Henry Matthews. ANTIQUE CHARLES BOYNTON 1913 STERLING SILVER SHELL FOOTED VANITY BOX PIQUE 5.25"
FEATURED HERE IS A SPECTACULAR STERLING SILVER AND SHELL PIQUE VANITY OR TRINKET BOX. It is weighted to keep it stable. The bottom is not solid but a leather covered cardboard material. There is a metal weight under the pink silky fabric. The fabric is aged and could be replaced or left as is. It has three legs and a fleur de lis pattern above each of them. The shell is also in great condition with a couple of water drop spots as shown in some of the photos. It is very three dimensional looking. I have only lightly polished the silver and left the light and dark areas. I'm sure that it will all polish out. It is fully hallmarked on the top pieces as well as the bottom piece. The hallmark is for Birmingham but the maker's mark is a firm that was located in London. Overall dimensions are: 5.25" in diameter and approximately 5.5" ... moreincluding the hinge. It stands 2 5/8" high. CHARLES BOYNTON COMPANY. LONDON The activity was founded by Charles Boyton who was apprenticed in 1807 to William Seaman. Hull's Street, St. Luke's. He registered his first hallmark in London Assay Office in 1825(free in 1827) The workshop was active at 12 Europia Place. Moving in 1830 to Wellington Street, St. Luke's. Further marks were entered in 1830, 1833, 1834 and 1838. From c.1849 the firm operated at Northampton Square. This is a beautiful little faux tortoishell lidded silver pill box, with a very attractive decoration of silver pique featuring two birds either side of a garland of flowers, hallmarked in London in 1917, the makers initials appear to be C& A, it's in excellent condition, no damage anywhere, and both parts have corresponding hallmarks.

Fine Antique 19 th Century Shell Cigar/Card Case Gold and Silver Pique This fine antique case is profusely inlaid with gold detailing. Crafted into a scrolling foliate design. It has a central gold motif. An urn revealing beautifully arranged flowers. The centre of the urn and the neck show a small amount on silver inlay that has been worked into the decoration of the piece. The reverse has a central plain gold cartouche surrounded by foliate detailing. There is a fine gold beaded border that runs around the outer edge. The push button clasp still works well and opens to reveal the original silk interior. The inner wall of this case is crafted from morocco leather. The shell. Leather, silk and overall condition is good considering the age of the piece, a small piece of gold above the urn has lifted, this is easily rectified. This is a lovely jewellery box made in 1911 by Mappin& Webb. The box is rectangular in shape with pointed sides and it stands on four scroll feet. The lid of the box has a shaped silver border with a superb faux tortoiseshell panel to the centre with pique inlaid silver swirling leaves. Flowers and ribbons. The lid is hinged and the inside of the box has a red velvet lining with a strand of gold twisted rope. The box is 8 inches/ 204 mm wide and 4-3/4 inches/ 120 mm deep. It stands 2-5/8 inches/ 66 mm high and weighs 413 grams. The silver has hallmarks- lion passant. London mark, letter q for 1911 and maker's mark MnWb for Mappin& Webb. Lovely matching pair of sterling silver trinket boxes with silver pique decoration on natural shell to the hinged lid. Standing on three ornate feet with harebell border. Original purple velvet interior. Leather base. Size of the largest is just over 10cms diameter x 5cms height. Size of the smaller is approx 7cms diameter x 4cms height. Marks: Large(slightly rubbed) Maker W& H(Walker& Hall) Birmingham; 1913/14 to base. Also other(clear) hallmarks to rim of lid. Small(clear) As above. Clearly marked by Walker& Hall with same date to base and rim of lid Condition: Small box: Very good. Clear hallmarks. Pique decoration very good. The edge of the shell on the inside of the lid(by the hinge) is a little damaged& has old repair but this does not detract from the outside as you will see from my picture.
