or Antique Silver religious Pyx or eucharist communion host Box Description We believe this to be a religious container referred to as a pyx used by Catholic clergymen to carry the consecrated eucharist to those who are unable to travel to church to receive communion. This pyx is in very good condition. There is normal wear and aging to the silver finish. There is no damage. This cylindrical box measures 1 3/4" tall and slightly larger than 1 inch diameter weight is 44 grams or 1.6 actual ounces It has a hinged lid for the seperate top compartment. This segment of the box is threaded and will unscrew from the bottom revealing a larger cylindrical compartment for storage of the holy communion or perhaps something else. The inside is gilt or gold finish on silver in both compartments. The threads are good and work well. The lid hinge is ... morealso made very well. There is a"hook" of sorts for wearing on a belt or some other part of the vestment. The box is ornately engraved with the initials IHS on the top lid. It appears to be sterling silver. The gilting process was discontinued over 100 years ago and so we postulate that the age of this item may be late 1800's. This item appears to be hand made and may have been commissioned. Antique Solid silver pyx wafer box holy communion 1950's ecclesiastical
This lovely solid silver pyx box is dated from 1959 and has a design inscribed on the lid. The box also features a solid silver rope around both the lid and base. The hinge and clasp are both in perfect condition and the lid opens and closes as it did on the day the box was made. Inside the box it is in excellent condition and is lined with gold. Although im not sure of the carat. The box is in very good condition for its age but has some very small superficial scratches on the outside these are mostly on the bottom and caused by placing the box down. ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER PRIESTS PYX,EUCHARIST,WAFER HOLDER BOX,CHATELAINE,CLEAN
An antique early 1900's gilt sterling silver chatelaine style communion host or Eucharist holder box. Multi tiered design and raised decoration on front give this old gem a very special look. The box measures 2 3/8" long from top of handle to base and the actual diameter of the holder section is 1 7/8" It is 3/4" thick and weighs 32.5 grams. The box is in very nice condition with no dings or dents and only modest wear. The interior is very clean with no loss to gold wash finish. There is some loss to the gold finish on the exterior. The top of handle can be pushed down to open the box and this function works properly. There is an affixed chatelaine attachment loop so the box could be carried on a chain if so desired. All raised decoration on top is crisp and well defined. Stamped sterling with an old makers mark that could ... morebe for the Durgin Co. but I'm not certain. Nice item. Starts low with no reserve.

Hallmarked Silv er Communion Wafer Box/Pyx. Hallmarked in London 1934. By the maker Frank Morton Crookes. The lid has a rope style edge. with a cross in the middle. The inside of it is gilded. The silver is hand beaten. There is a jump ring attached to the bottom. It has some light sc ratches. And a harsher scratch to the lid. There is a miniscule ding to the side, barely noticable. The lid is slightly bent out of shape so doesn't stay shut. Other than that it is in good condition. Measurements: The Height is 1.6cm. The Diameter(across the lid) is 5.1cm. It weighs 38.3g. Solid Silver Pyx Holy Communion Ecclesiastical" It is fully English hallmarked for London 1978 and the makers mark is"HD over MS" of whom I am not familiar with. The pyx is in very good condition there are a couple of minor dings to the base commensurate with its age and use and the lid opens and closes well. It is decorated with a stylised cross on the lid. Which has a raised and chased decoration showing"The Lamb of God" to the lid, and which was made by the well regarded ecclesiastical silversmiths of Hayes& Finch in Birmingham in 1938. This finest quality Chirstian Pyx Box comes in a good condition with just a couple of shallow dents to the base rim. It has a dedication to a Rev P D Scott in grateful rememberance 1939, and it has a crisply closing lid with its original internal gilding.
