Antique Georgian faux Tortoiseshell Sterling Silver Needlecase Etui
An antique Georgian faux tortoiseshell and silver(tested) needlecase. In overall good antique condition. However, there are some chips at the top of the lid. Also, when opened, I am unsure whether the two semi-circles are original but I suspect they have been cut like that some time later. Measures approx 1 3/4 inches by 1 inch. 1 inch = approx 25mm) Please note that all my items for sale are old and one would expect to see some wear commensurate with the age of the item. I try to list all the imperfections. Repairs or damage, however, bear in mind they are not brand new and will show age related wear. Fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1913 along with the makers initials"C E T" for Charles Edward Turner. Condition Overall excellent carefully used condition with just a few very minor surface marks. The lid is a nice tight fit! There appears to be a minor crack to the inside surface of the lid. This is a slight natural fault to the underside of the material. And it does not go right through to the outer surface. It is only visible when viewed from the underside or held up to the light. A ny light marks are due to lighting or flash. This is a beautiful and very fine quality sterling silver and faux tortoiseshell tea caddy made in 1904 by Martin Hall& Co. The caddy is rectangular in shape with a shaped rounded front and sloping lid. The lid of the box has a handle to the centre and a superb band of pierced swirling leaves around the edge. The front of the box has a finely pierced band of swirling leaves and a lock to the centre. The sides of the box are plain. The lid of the box is hinged and the inside of the lid has a green velvet lining. The box has a lift off lid with silver handle and the inside is metal foil lined. The tea caddy is 3-1/2 inches/ 89 mm wide and 3-3/8 inches/ 86 mm deep. It ... morestands 3-7/8 inches/ 98 mm high(NOT including the handle) and weighs 215 grams.
