The box has Maker's Mark for William Comyns. This box is relatively large and heavy. Weighing 144.5 grams. The box has a hinged lid which opens from one of the short ends exposing the entire interior. We suspect that it is a cigarette box. The lid of the box has a high relief design depicting an unknown castle on top of a hill with mountains and a water body in the background and a house at the bottom of the hill where the castle is sitting. There are trees and a picket fence. The sky on top of the scene has light imprints of circular shape suggesting the sun? clouds? Just a great design with fine details, just look at the trees, the bridge, and the water below it. The sides of the box are decorated with a nice scroll design, while the bottom of the box is plain and smooth. The edges of the box are toothed or variegated giving the box a very mice appearance. The piece is relatively larger in size than usual cigarette boxes are and as we indicated weighs quite a bit. The interior of the box is plain except that the back of the lid shows the design in reverse. It is very clean and shiny. Just a great and wonderful antique that very seldom comes by having excellent details. Unfortunately we do not know which castle is depicted on the lid. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1883. Origin: London England. In the United Kingdom. Size: Measures ~3" by ~4" and is 11/16" deep. This is a beautiful Edwardian solid silver pot pourri box by the prestigious maker William Comyns. Condition is excellent with no dents or dings and no splits or breaks on the openwork lid. Both the base and the lid have a full set of London assay marks. These show London assay office mark. Lion Passant for sterling and date letter m for 1907. Base has WC for maker(see photo) Diameter of box is approx. 5 cm(2 inches) and height is 2 ¼ cm(just under one inch) This is a delightful pot pourri box. A charming Edwardian sterling silver cylindrical box decorated with the ever-popular Reynold's Angels. The top has an embossed panel with the five Angels and the sides with the five individual angels each framed with a decorative repousse garland. The lid fits well and when removed reveals that both top and bottom have matching English silver hallmarks for London 1902. Making this a true Edwardian example. Maker: W C for William Comyns. This elegant Box has a Hammered effect to all sides. A Circular Cartouch to the lid which is Blank. Inside has a Leather lined tray to hold Rings. Chains and much more. This Tray has been re lined at some stage in it's life but i think a long while ago. The Base of the interior has the original lining of an Emerald Green Leather look paper. A pocket to the back for storing perhaps calling cards or a small hand Mirror. Also holds a wide Green ribbon for lifting the top tray up. The Base of the box has a paper lining( please see photo's) A slight rattle to the lid when lifted. No damage to the Silver. This is an absolutely stunning antique hallmarked sterling silver fronted stationary box or desk tidy measuring 8 1/4" 21 cms) tall x 11 1/2" 29 cms) across x 5 1/4" 13 cms) deep and hallmarked for London 1903 with the silversmiths mark for William Comyns who was known for his top quality items. The overall look and condition is super and I am being very picky in mentioning faults. Victorian hallmarked Silver Matchbox Holder This beautiful. Good-sized matchbox holder is made from sterling silver and decorated to the top with fluted decoration. It still contains a vintage cardboard matchbox sleeve and striking plates. This piece is hallmarked for London 1884 with the maker's mark of the highly collected silversmith, William Comyns. The marks are slightly rubbed but still recognisable. The silver is in excellent condition with no noticeable dents or scratches. There are some very tiny dints around the side edges but these are barely noticeable. The matchbox sleeve is fragile and a small part of one side has broken away. Please be aware that it is 129 years old so there will be tiny surface abrasions caused through use and cleaning. All marks are matching and struck on the front of the draw. Including registration mark with hallmark and duty mark on the handle. A complete set of marks can also be found on the corner of one side of the box. A quality made object from an important maker. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of the item. This important firm of manufacturers was established by William Comyns c1859. Robert Tagg moved in 1857 to his new residence and factory at 2 Carlise Street, Soho Square. Where by 1859 he listed as a silversmith. Thereafter, William Comyns also listed as a silversmith, and appears to have purchased the business in 1858-1859. Entering his first marks from the same address. He moved to 1 Percy Mews, Rathbone Place, then to 16 Silver Street, Golden Square, Soho, and subsequently to Beak Street, Regent Street. These premises were later expanded to include 41, 43, 45 and 47 Beak Street. Additional premises were purchased from c1903 at 54 Marshall Street, Soho. The style of the firm was changed to William Comyns& Son c1885, when William's two sons, Charles Harling Comyns and Richard Harling Comyns were admitted to the partnership. William Comyns died January 1916, and his son Charles died, whilst attending a Christie's auction in 1925. The business was incorporated as a limited liability company as William Comyns& Sons Ltd.

Gorgious "William Comyns" Antique Solid Silver Stationary Box. Dated 1891
Here is a Gorgious elaborately decorated stationary box in untouched original condition with a lovely Solid Silver pierced reposse decoration. Hallmarked on the base and lid for London. Date letter Q for 1891. Makers Mark"William Comyns" There is some loss of leather to one end and the leather on the base has all but gone and would need replacing it is attached to some card. Easily comes off to be replaced. Inside the silk lining on the bottom has gone but the rest of inside lining is in nice original condition, the lid has slightly come apart on one corner, needs repinning, which in turn has caused the locking mechanism to not line up with its housing thus not being able to shut the box properly, this can be seen in picture 5. Also there are two tiny roundels missing one of which i have, picture 11 and one where the corner has ... moreslightly lifted, picture 10. But Please don't be put off by this, these are all superficial and are easily repaired, with only one tiny peice of silver missing makes this rather unique and well worth the trouble. Measuring approx 11 3/4 inches wide. 7 1/2in high and 5 1/4in deep, this Lovely box would grace any collection, buyer will not be disappionted. Sold with no reserve.

This lovely box is 4 inches long. 1.5 inches wide and 1 inch deep. It weighs around 100g. The enamel decoration is of a star burst with a central oval decorated cartouche. All within a foliate border. The hinge is good. The lid is lined with velvet and fits well. There is no weighting. The enamel is in excellent condition other than a small area in one corner. Today I am offering a sterling silver trinket box made by William Comyns of London in 1910. It is a wonderful little box. With a charming scene on the lid. It has the original royal purple liner, and it is in great condition. There are a few dings that usually do come with an item of this age. The scene on the front has seen years of love and polishing and is not as vibrant as days past, yet it is not detrimental to this piece. It is clearly marked with William Comyns hallmark, as well as the hallmarks for sterling, London, and 1910. This is a lovely little heart shaped English sterling silver box. Hallmarked on the outside rim of the lid and on the inside rim of the box. Lion passant indicating sterling silver"WC" indicating William Comyns and"f" indicating the year 1901. The other hallmark on the rim of the box indicates where in England it was made. Measures almost 4" long x 3 1/4" at the widest point then tapering to a point. Top is engraved with the name"Nellie" along with cherubs and leaves in relief. Here we have this beautiful large antique letter box made by William Comyns in London England with hallmarks for 1910. It is a wooden box covered with red leather and approximately 280 grams of sterling silver. The silver is very ornate with repousse flowers and cherubs and an unengraved cartouche. Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Pierced Potpourri Box 1908 - William Comyns
This is a gorgeous antique solid sterling silver box with a pierced lid measuring 3 1/4" across x x 1 1/4" high and in good condition. It's hallmarked for London 1908 and has the maker's mark for William Comyns. It weighs 88 grams and the inside is nice however it could use some detailing. The pierced lid is absolutely lovely and there is a pretty pattern around the outside of the box. A slight ding on the bottom and I can't quite tell but there maybe a leaf missing on the pierced top. However neither of these issues takes away from it's lovely display. I have taken many pictures so please look and if you have any questions please ask. 0) It has only been lightly cleaned. Maker: W.C for William Comyns. This rather large Box of Casket form was made by one of the finest Victorian Silversmiths. Beautiful repouse work of the Famous'Reynolds Angels' decorate the whole Box. In wonderful condition with only very minor wear to the Silver. The interior of the Box is lined with a Pale Green Silk which does has some obvious marks. The base has been covered with a green baize. Which i feel is a replacement but a good job was done. It's lovely that the original key has stayed with the Box. Although a little temperamental it still works well. The lid opens and closes well and the hinge is in good working order. Fully Hallmarked ... moreto the base and lid. Condition is excellent for the age and no damage to report. Just general wear. Weighing in at approx: 595 grams. Beautiful repouse work of a Romantic scene taken from a 18th Century Painting decorates the top of the Box. The Declaration of Love' A couple sitting under a Tree with a Basket of Roses. Surrounded with'C' scrolls and having a blank Cartouch to each end. In wonderful condition complete with Gold Gilt interior. This is Solid Sterling Silver with no weighted elements. The lid opens and closes well and the hinge is in good working order. Fully Hallmarked to the base and lid. Good definition. No wear holes to the high points.
