A most unusual postage stamp case made from solid or sterling silver and appearing like a square version of a sovereign case with the ring and push button button to open. Once opened the sprung holder is not circular to hold gold sovereigns but square/rectangular to hold postage stamps. The interior retains it' original gilding and fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1891. Making it a true Victorian example. The makers initials are also present W.N. I believe for William Neale. This is a solid silver English hallmarked sovereign holder or case. Dating from the Edwardian era. Inner lid bears the makers mark'WHH' for William Hair Haseler. Further hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham, lion denoting sterling silver. And the date letter'g for 1906. There is also a lion hallmark on the suspension ring The case shuts with a'snap' Hinge and clasp are fine. Springs open when the'push button' is depressed. The spring loaded coin holder operates as it should. If you look very closely at the last 5 pictures Ive tried to show where there is slight ding(pencil tip size) when inspecting the item closely enough it was barely noticeable. The item remains in excellent condition considering its age.

Comprising the makers mark'EJH' for E J Houlston. The anchor for Birmingham, lion denoting sterling silver, and the date letter'o' for 1913. Please check the date letter. As the'o' always confuses me. It could be 1938. But I'm fairly sure it's 1913. The sovereign'retainer' is also stamped with the lion and date letter, and a sign of quality. The engine turned'platform' has the lion stamp, as does the suspension ring. Very attractive foliate engraving to both sides. With a vacant shield shaped cartouche on the lid. CONDITION. This Piece id marked with the lion& anchor& a Letter d in a box with a wavy bottom to it we think it is the date mark of 1899. We are not 100% Sure But 90-95% sure. This item has some wear from being used up until About 5 years When the former owner stop traveling to the city. She had it holding NY City subway tokens.
