Rare Georgian Sterling Silver Oval Snuff Box Samuel Pemberton Birmingham 1799
If you have any questions about this item or the buy it now. You can email to me at Superb Georgian sterling silver oval snuff box. Fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1799. This is a lovely oval snuff box made by the highly sought after silversmith. Samuel Pemberton in 1799. The snuff box has a flat oval hinged lid above curving sides and it stands on a flat base. The lid and the sides of the box have fine bright cut decoration and the base has chased lattice pattern. The lid has a hidden hinge to the back and the centre of the lid is engraved'E Hill' The inside of the box has it's original gilding. The box is 2-1/4 inches/ 57 mm wide and 1-1/2 inches/ 38 mm deep. It stands 3/4 inches/ 19 mm high and weighs 25 grams. The inside of the lid and the base have clear hallmarks- lion passant. Anchor for Birmingham, letter b for 1799, duty ... moremark and maker's mark SP for Samuel Pemberton. The box is in good condition. It has a small dent to the lid and some small dents around the body. Considering it is 214 years old. It is in very good condition. England in 1820 by the illustrious silversmith, John Bettridge. It is in a gorgeous octagonal shape with stunning engraved decoration to the lid and base. It is gilded internally and is NOT engraved to the cartouche on the lid. It measures 1 7/8" long by 1 1/8" deep and stands almost 5/8" thick. It weighs 18.6 grams- well over 1/2 troy oz. The workmanship is excellent- the lid is still a good fit but with some spring. It is in very good condition- less than the usual surface scratching. Exquisite Early 19th Century George III Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Pocket Snuff Box Made By John Thropp 1809 Description- Superb and rare rectangular curved solid silver snuff box with hinged lid. The box is beautifully hand engraved with grapes and vine leaves on the top and base and with cross hatch design on the sides, the inside of the snuff box is silver-gilt(gold washed) The case is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay. The lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the kings head, the date letter"I" for the year 1809 and the makers mark"IT" which is John Thropp. Condition- The snuff box is in excellent condition. The lid has fine hand chased scroll leaf and floral decoration with matted background and with silver- gilt border, engine turned decoration and a gold central plaque. the box has a cast foliate thumb piece and foliate edges, with the sides and base having further engine turned decoration, the interior of the snuff box is silver- gilt(gold washed) The box is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay. A Rare Solid Silver Snuff Box by Cocks& Bettridge Hallmarked Birmingham 1813 This is an early example of a snuff box by the highly collectable firm of Silversmiths Cocks& Bettridge. The snuff box is of rectangular bowed design with a chased floral pattern on the base(see second photograph) complemented by a'stitch effect' border. The curved sides have a Celtic twist design and the lid has a chased pattern of flowers within decorated ovals set against a chequered background. The central oval taking the form of a cartouche. Which has been engraved with a monogram(please see fourth photograph) Its dimensions are as follows: approx' 45mm long; approx' 25mm wide; approx' 11mm deep; and it weighs: 15.2 grams. There is one tiny dent on back side edge, and a pin size ding on the underside; I couldn't get a good close-up of either, but they are minor. Measurements: 3.5"w x 2.5"d x 1"h. Antique George IV Solid Silver Snuff Box. Beautiful and heavy box which is not in original condition but which is in a very good functional order. The box is clearly hallmarked for Edward Smith. Birmingham 1828. So it's a little shy of 200 years old. The main part of the box is in excellent order still with quite crisp engine turned decoration and heavy cast sides. The lid appears to be original to the box but isn't hallmarked which is unusual. The engine turned decoration to the lid is a little more polished and the blank. Rectangular cartouche appears to have been added. Nevertheless it's a fully functional and beautiful almost 200 year old solid silver snuff box made by one of the leading Birmingham box makers. This fabulous piece was crafted by the renowned silversmith Henry Matthews at the end of the Victorian era in 1899. SILVER SNUFF BOX A very attractive solid silver George III snuff box fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1810 with a makers mark J.L. This lovely box is very tactile and is of an unusual and rare shape. It is of arched design with an inset hinged lid to one side. The outside of the snuff box features lined decoration and the interior is gilded. The full set of hallmarks can be found on the leading edge of the lid. The snuff box is in pretty good order for its long life. There are a small number of pin head dings and some wear to the gilding, but there are no splits or repairs and the lid fits nice and snugly. The snuff box measures 48 x 25mm. Fine Mid Victorian Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Table Snuff Box Made By Colen Hewer Cheshire Description- Splendid good gauge solid silver large rectangular table snuff box with hinged lid and a scroll thumb piece. The box has reeded sides and superb hand engraved decoration on the lid and base, the lid has a cartouche with a presentation inscription and the base a nice floral cartouche, the interior is silver-gilt(gold washed) The snuff box is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay. The Queens head, the lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the date letter"X" for the year 1872 and the marker's mark"C.C" which is Colen Hewer Cheshire. Condition- The snuff box is in good condition. There are no dents, dinks, splits and repairs, the engraving on the lid is clear but with a bit of ... morerubbing, the engraving on the base is crisp and clear, lid opens and closes with no problems which has a strong hinge which is nice and tight with no looseness, to note, the left front corner of the box has a bit of damage which is slightly distorted(See photo) there is no loss of the interior silver-gilt which still retains a nice shine. Antique Solid Silver Snuff/ Pill Box" It is fully English hallmarked on the inside lip for Birmingham 1930 and I cannot decipher a makers mark. The box is in fair condition there are a couple of dings and dents commensurate with its age and use. It is decorated with an engraved floral pattern on the lid with a vacant cartouche. The box measures 47mm x 32mm x 11mm and it is of a good guage of silver weighing a heavy 30.1 grams. A nice silver snuff box to add to your collection. The silver box has a beautifully embossed scroll and bird motif. The lid is embossed with scrolls and flower heads. The front side has the hallmarks of the anchor, letter date Z, the lion, including the makers initials TH. The front edge of the lid is marked with the letter date Z and the lion. This box is superb craftsmanship, it is in excellent condition, very minor bends of corners on the lid and the bottom inside is a little stained. The hinged lid works well and fits tightly. Victorian Solid Silver Snuff Box" The box is fully English hallmarked for Birmingham 1857 and the makers mark is"A.T" for Alfred Taylor who was a good silversmith of the mid-Victorian era. The box is in fair condition there is a small dent on the base of the box and I think that the cartouche on the lid was originally gold plated and this has worn through to the silver due to over polishing commensurate with its age. It is decorated with an engine turned pattern all over and it has an ornate thumb piece and the interior is gilded. The box measures 52mm x 30mm and it weighs 24.4 grams. Beautiful Antique English Edwardian Sterling Silver Hallmarked Box- Snuff Box. Pill Box, Trinket Box- take your pick. The set of hallmarks at it's base indicate the piece is sterling silver; assayed in Birmingham in 1909, with the maker's mark of L& S for Levi& Salaman. The body is smooth and plain with a highly ornate decorative lid. The lid opens and closes smoothly and snaps shut nicely. I believe the lid may have once been covered with Guilloche Enamel. As I have discovered traces of cobalt. The strangest thing, I never saw this when I bought it years and years ago! I was wondering how this could be, and came to the conclusion that it could have been either dirty at the time, or the previous owner left traces of silver paste in the cracks of the ornate design. If in fact it once housed Guilloche, I have no idea how they ... moregot it all off as thoroughly as they did* but there you have it. That said. It presents beautifully ~ i t is a stunning design and a very useful and highly collectible little box. CONDITION No major damages or repairs. Light wear commensurate with age and use. Has sustained a few negligible bruises to the base- see photos. It has been very well kept for a piece of 105 years. Enjoy! It has engine turned decoration and unwriten cartouche to the top. It measures 4.5 cms x 3 cms aprox. The overall condition is good, with only a tiny ding to the top and when the lid is closed there is a tiny gap, this all noted for accuracy. Antique Art Deco- 925 Solid Silver Pill Trinket Snuff Box- Birmingham 1926 PLEASE VIEW ALL 12 PHOTOS I HAVE PROVIDED. A superb very high quality Art Deco solid silver pill or snuff box. Hallmarked- Birmingham 1926- Maker Payton. Pepper& Sons Ltd The lid has a superb engine turned design which has crisp detail and is not worn. The interior is gold gilded and is in fine condition with only one tiny wear mark and a slight scratch on the inside of the lid. The lid is hinged at the back and closes tightly onto the base and is very secure. It is in very good condition with only a tiny mark on the side and has only minor surface scratches. Measures- 3.5 cm across the top x 1.2 cm in height- Weighs 15 grams of solid 925 silver.
