With a plain side. There are hallmarks on the side for Birmingham 1946, with a maker's mark for Marson& Jones. There are'dings' and dents around the pot, and a couple of centimetres of the lid edge has been squashed. The base. Which appears to be some form of plastic, is stamped with the original retailers name, James Walker of Chiswick. Total weight. Including the non-silver bottom, 53.5g. It could also be used to store pills. The bird is highly detailed. And has a little hole in its mouth where small amounts of pepper can be dispensed. The bottom opens with a little hinged flap. It is Hallmarked with a Spanish STAR indicating 915 SILVER(91.5% Solid Silver Content) = also Tested true! The star is on the outside bottom and on the inside of the opening flap. I am not sure if this is an antique or if it is vintage instead. SO BEAUTIFUL! This is a lovely and hard to find piece! I got a few of these from an estate. And I paid a lot of money for them some time ago. CONDITION: Very good condition. ART DECO SILVER AND ENAMEL PILL POT LAWRENCE EMANUEL HM 1919
A super solid silver and enamel Art Deco circular pill pot by the Birmingham firm of Lawrence Emanuel who made a wide range of fine silverware. It has wonderful guilloche enamelling in an unusual shade of purple and the design creates a 3D effect combined with radiating lines. This can be seen best when the case is moved around in the light. All of the enamel is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. The two halves of the pot have a gold gilt finish inside and both are marked for silver with the lion passant and date letter u for 1919. One half is fully hallmarked to include the anchor mark for Birmingham. Also. Has the maker's mark L E( latter is slightly rubbed) No repairs to the silver just few very tiny dings on the base and side. Closes tightly and fits flush. This is a superb French early Art Deco solid silver and enamel circular pill pot by the Paris firm of Charles Barrier. It has amazing guilloche enamelling in iridescent turquoise with contrasting bands of Royal blue. The design on the top creates a sunburst effect with radiating lines in the centre section and wavy ripples around the outer section. All of the silver has been decorated around the side and underneath as can be seen in the photos. Really excellent craftsmanship. The enamel is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs(some light reflection) The two halves of the pot have a gold gilt finish inside and both are marked for silver. French hallmarks showing the Minerva head and number 1 in a cartouche for high quality silver of 950 plus trademark C B for Charles Barrier and the lower half inside rim. A super solid silver and enamel Art Nouveau oval pill pot by the Birmingham firm of Deakin& Francis who made a wide range of fine silverware. It has wonderful guilloche enamelling in a vibrant golden yellow. When the pot is moved. The radiating lines in the design create a 3D effect. All of the enamel is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. The pot is not hinged and the two halves are marked for silver with the lion passant and date letter n for 1912. One half is fully hallmarked to include the anchor mark for Birmingham and also has the maker's mark D& F. No repairs to the silver or any dings. Closes tightly and fits flush. Antique Georgian Silver Pill Box / Cosmetics Pot 1800
Georgian 1800 Silver Pill Box or Cosmetics Pot by Elizabeth Morley- With original glass liner ~Welcome to my auction for this lovely Georgian era Sterling Silver Box with liner~ The exact original use for this charming little box is open to some debate- I originally acquired it as a pill box. But to my mind it's a little large for this purpose- also there is no gilding to the interior which I would of perhaps expected to see on a pill box. There is a nicely hand blown glass liner to the interior which is a perfect fit and has a polished pontil mark to the base- this would perhaps suggest it once held powder or some other kind of cosmetic. Another suggestion has been a'counter' box for gaming counters- although the shape fits the description of a gaming counter box, again it seems a little wide and tall for this purpose(and this ... moretype of box wouldn't of been glass lined) The lid when pushed on creates a very tight airtight seal and would of kept its original contents fresh and in good condition. The box is fully hallmarked to the base with marks for London 1800- The silversmith mark is struck a little awkwardly but I believe it to say EM for Elizabeth Morley. The condition is superb. With no dents or dinks to the silver and only perfectly normal light marks of patina- the base shows typical wear of criss cross light scratches where the item has been moved around on a desk or table top for many years. The glass is also superb condition with no chips or cracks- there is also a single letter L monogram to the lid The box measures 4.3 cm across the width of the lid and has a height of 3.6 cm- it weighs 71.1 grams including the glass liner and 31.6 grams without the liner. SUPERB ART NOUVEAU SILVER ENAMEL PILL POT HM 1909 BY S B & S LTD
This is a really superb Art Nouveau pill pot made in Birmingham by silversmiths firm of S Blanckensee& Sons Ltd. The hinged top has guilloche enamel in a beautiful shade of blue with a midnight blue enamel edge. There are silver stars set around the edge and these make it stand out from the usual circular pots. The pot is in excellent condition with no damage or scratches to the enamel. The inside has a gold gilt finish and both the top and bottom have a pattern number of 85 stamped inside. On the bottom it is fully hall-marked for the Birmingham assay office. Lion passant for silver and date letter k for 1909. There is also the makers mark S B& S Ltd- has been struck twice so a little unclear in the middle. The hinge is in fine order and the pot closes well. There are two extremely tiny dings on the edge and the pot curves underneath ... morebut these do not detract from the excellent enamelling of the top.
