This is beautiful solid silver antique lidded box- snuff. Trinket or for studs. It has an ornate top with a scrolling design and this fits snugly onto the base. It measures 6cm diameter approx. It is in very nice condition just needs a thorough clean up. It is stamped on the base Theodore B Starr New York Sterling BQK with a stamp that is worn a little but I can see an anchor. DELIGHTFUL VICTORIAN SOLID SILVER CIRCULAR BOX/ INKWEL Matthew John Jessop.Birmingham 1901 This is a Delightful Victorian Solid Silver Circular Lidded Boxctrafted by the highly sought after Victorian silversmith Matthew John Jessop. This lovely Box was Assayed in Birmingham in 1901 making it 113 years old. The design and decoration is so very pretty and so very elegant and timeless with its smooth body and mushroom shaped push on lid which has the engraved name Rose to the top, i can say that Rose used this delightful little lidded box as an Inkwell as you can see from the photos as remains of the ink are still inside, maybe it was used either on her travels or at home to write her letters, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this shows the normal signs of wear with little bruising near the base and a tiny ding to the top, that being ... moresaid it doesnt detract at all from its beauty, this just adds to its history, just mentioned for accuracy. Antique Dutch Solid Silver Hinged Circular Shape Tobacco Snuff Box dated 1824
Antique Dutch Solid Silver Engrave Decorated Circular Shape Tobacco Snuff Box dated 1824 This Antique Dutch Tobacco Snuff Box measures approximately 2 1/8 inches or 54 mm across the width of its body from the hinge to the front and it stands 7/8 of an inch or 22 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The Tobacco or Snuff box is made from.833 standard solid silver in a circular shape with a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid that overhangs the body slightly acting as a thumb or finger catch for ease of opening. The underside of the box has a lineal engraved decoration and the top of the lid has a delightful circular banded decoration around a central star like decorated central panel, the sides of its lid and base have a raised relief ribbed decoration and the box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family ... moremonogram all as photographed below, the snuff box has been impressed in several places with a full set of Dutch solid silver marks that include a Dutch.833 standard solid silver Lion Rampant along with an unknown Dutch silversmith or makers mark. The box has also been impressed with the stylized Dutch date letter P for 182 4. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The Snuff Box has No Large Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the definition and decoration is crisp, the hinge is working perfectly, the lid opens and closes tightly with ease, the Dutch silver and makers marks are partially rubbed or worn in places but still legible although as the snuff box is a used antique it does have the odd small shallow dent that is hardly worth mentioning along with some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use. The box has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this Antique Dutch tobacco snuff box would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection and that it can still be used today, I also think that it looks fantastic considering that it
