DUNDEE INSCRIPTION- Rare Box- STUNNING This is a lovely VINTAGE solid sterling silver mounted LARGE cigarette box that was made in London. England in 1924 by the illustrious Victorian silversmith, Charles Henry Dumenil at his Broad Street workshops. It has a wooden lining and a leatherette base. It measures 8 7/8" long by 3 1/2" deep by 2 1/8" high to the top of its domed lid. It is engraved with Presented to Bailie Findlay Lesslie. JP Session Clerk as a mark of esteem from Rosebank Parish Church and in recognition of valuable services rendered Dundee 25-9-28. It is very substantial but loaded- it weighs 650.0 grams- well over 20 3/4 troy oz. The base bears the hallmark CD. The full description is below the following photos This is a fantastic antique solid sterling silver cigarette/ jewellery box with hard wood interior and embossed coat of arms with elephants and motto(some wear) It is marked Peace 1919. Fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1919 with makers mark for the well regarded A&J Zimmerman. 4.4" x 3.4" and 1.7" high. It weighs 346g. William Neale& Son in Birmingham, England in 1948 at their Cox Street workshops. It has a wooden lining and leatherette base. It measures 4 3/8" wide by 3 3/8" deep by 2" high to the top of its lid. It has an engine turned and patterned finish to the lid and is engraved with H.R.P. to the cartouche on the lid and to the front with From the Employees of Letheringsett Hall on the occasion of her marriage 17-4-53. The ensemble weighs 393.3 grams- almost 12 3/4 troy oz. The base bears the hallmark of WN&SLd. I have listed this at what we think a fair price but if anyone wants to negotiate please let us know Art Deco cigarette box(or card box? its got 3 little wooden pieces which can be slotted into different grooves to make different sized compartments so could take either or both)which is hallmarked silver with the date letter Birmingham 1936. The box is lined in cedar wood and apart from 5 tiny teeny pin head size dents commensurate with age in very very good condition. Engine turned design and very classic lines. Both the silver and all the internal cedar wood. Any marks you can see on the photos are where the grooves of the cross hatch pattern needs a light clean. High quality piece of solid English sterling silver in the form of a cigarette box with an interesting presentation inscription. It has a lovely Art Deco style cartouche in geometric lines against an engine-turned background pattern on the lid and is hallmarked for Birmingham 1937. The rest of the body of the box h as a smooth mirror finish. There is a silver strip on the front for opening and the base has a black leatherette insert surrounded by silver. Internally. The lid ha nice engine turned decoration, the interior has cedar wood lining with adjustable wood slots. The box is fully hallmarked with the leopard's head for London assay. The lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the date letter"c" for the year 1918 and the maker's mark"C.L.S" which I have not been identified.
