SUPERB HENRY MATTHEWS LARGE SOLID STERLING SILVER TABLE SNUFF BOX HALLMARK 1903
BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE LARGE SOLID STERLING SILVER TABLE SNUFF BOX IN REPOUSSE SILVER ART NOUVEAU STYLE EDWARDIAN ERA- BY RENOWNED SILVERSMITH HENRY MATTHEWS HALLMARK BIRMINGHAM 1903 This is a gorgeous example of a large antique table snuff box in solid English sterling silver. The entire box is beautifully decorated in repousse silver in a typical Art Nouveau style pattern of swirling acanthus leaves and flowers within a wavy gadroon border. The pattern surrounds a cartouche with a pair of initials in an attractive italic. It stands on a plain raised base and has a gilt-lined interior. This fabulous piece was crafted by the renowned silversmith Henry Matthews at the beginning of the Edwardian era in 1903. It is in very good condition overall- the photographs do not do this box of antique silver justice. It could be used as a very pretty little ... morejewellery or trinket box. HALLMARKS: The full English solid sterling silver hallmarks are crisp and clear on the base of the box. They are: HM” in two squares for Henry Matthews; the Anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office; the lion passant denoting solid English silver; the letter“d” for the year 1903. On the inside lip of the lid there are further hallmarks of the lion passant and the letter“d” to show that lid and base are matched and original. APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS/WEIGHT: Length– 10cm at the longest; width– 3.7cm at its widest; depth– 3cm including lid and base. It weighs about 72g. CONDITION: The condition overall is very good. Especially considering its antique age of 111 years old. The gilt-lined interior is a bit faded. The lid still fits. The hinge is in excellent working order, and it opens and shuts easily. There are areas of pin dots to the silver on either end of the lid lip. There is a very small slit of a few millimetres length on the lid where the repousse silver work has worn through. It is only noticeable on close inspection. Particularly as it is at the base of a part of the pattern that is in relief. There is also a tiny pin hole in the crease on

Nice Nathaniel Mills Table Snuff Box. Circa 1833. Four ounces of Sterling Silver and Made in England. Marked NM with a K in the year, marking it 1833. Large. Just under three inches long, almost two inches wide, one inch tall. In excellent condition, except for some darkened areas in the east and west front corners which may be the result of repairs, but if it is, they were very well done and do not diminish the visual or user condition at all. The piano hinge works perfectly, it opens evenly, snuggly and smoothly, with no yawn to the lid. With an opening bid that reflects my impression that it may have been repaired. Being sold"As is. Description: A stunning Georgian sterling silver table snuff box of Masonic interest. Hallmarked in Birmingham 1824 with clearly struck makers for Thomas Shaw It is in very good condition.
