This functional pill box is one of a collection of designs a friend purchased several years ago for a shop. They were discontinued old stock. It measures about 7/8th" in diameter by a a little more than 1" high. It weighs about 13 grams and is marked 925. It has a slight natural patina. Description Victorian Sterling Silver GILTED Pill/Snuff Box PENDANT Birmingham 1905! ESTATE SALE This Antique Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box measures approximately 3.20 cm across the length of its body from side to side by just under 2.50 cm across the width of its body from its hinged back to the front edges and it stands just under 8 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. This is an unusual and rare piece. The box is made from solid sterling silver formed in an RECTANGULAR shape and it has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid. The inside is gold gilted. absolutely stunning! the inner body and lid have been impressed with a full set of English solid sterling silver hallmarks.on this extremely unusual item there is a loop at the top which appears to allow either a necklace or something else to be threaded.the size of the hole ... moreis approx 1.5 mm. WEIGHT: 8.59 gr HEIGHT: 8 mm LENGTH: 2.50 cm WIDTH: 3.30 cm MARK A& LL- Anchor- Lion Passant? f A& LL is the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark of Adie& Lovekin Ltd the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office. The Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard solid sterling silver and the letter g is the assay office date letter for 1905. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The pill or snuff box has No Splits. No Cracks, No Holes and it has No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the decoration and definition is very crisp, the lid opens and closes with ease, the sterling silver hallmarks are still clearly legible although as this is a used antique trinket, pill or snuff box it does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique late Victorian trinket, pill or snuff box can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it looks absolutely fantastic considering that it's over 108 years old. This is a nice antique sterling silver pill box/fob piece/pendant nice classical design with wreaths and medallions. has a bale to attach to a chain hallmarks are faint and I could not read them.
