This is a highly ornate solid sterling silver snuff box with gold washed interior. It is deeply hand engraved to top. Bottom and all four sides. The edges of the lid and bottom are scalloped and the sides are slightly concave– a very attractive look. There is a vacant cartouche to the center of the lid. The box has a full-length(piano) hinge and a firm clasp with thumbpiece. Both in perfect working order. The heavily gilt interior is inscribed. In script, ROB to HLB 1861” surrounded by small bright cut designs, to the lid. The interior of the box is fully hallmarked. To the lid are the sterling lion. The Queen’s head duty mark, and the maker’s mark. To the floor is the Birmingham anchor, the date letter“G” for 1855, and the maker’s mark“Y&W” repeated, for John Yapp and John Woodward, Birmingham silversmiths active in the mid 19 th C. ... moreThis box was originally made as a vinaigrette and has been skilfully converted. The only signs of which are a slightly lower right side of the body's rim(where the hinge would have been) and a small semicircle halfway across the top of the left side(for raising the grill) Both these are barely noticeable. The box measures 1 ¾” X 1 ¼” X ½” deep. It is in excellent antique condition. With no flaws we can find. Any dark or bright spots on the silver not mentioned above are reflections in photography. This table snuff box is deeply engraved in the Georgian style. To both top and bottom. It is made of a heavy thick gauge sterling silver by Whiting of New York City. NY by Whiting, active from 1840 to 1926, at which time it was acquired by Gorham. To the lid of the box is engraved“J. R. Claggett” The lid is attached to the body with a full length(piano) hinge and a thumb clasp opener. It fits securely and tightly. To the interior lip of the body are the Whiting trademark. STERLING” and“8B” The box measures 3” X 2” X 1” tall to the lid’s bevelled and slightly raised center. It is in good used antique condition. Beautiful hand engraved Austrian silver(first grade) snuff box made in Vienna in 1852. It has an attractive patina and has some light surface wear as commensurate with a box of this age. The engraving is still in good condition(not being"tired" The box will be a lovely addition for anyone's collection and of course can still be used as a pill box as it has a nice tight closing action. Stunning Antique English sterling silver oval snuff box made in Birmingham. England in 1907. I was unable to identify the hallmarks other than this. This uniquely beautiful box is spring-loaded; you squeeze both ends to pop the lid open. Beautifully engraved. There are no monograms. The back is unadorned, with slight scuffing consistent with age. There is one tiny dent on back side edge, and a pin size ding on the underside; I couldn't get a good close-up of either, but they are minor. Measurements: 3.5"w x 2.5"d x 1"h. On offer is a French 950 sterling silver snuff box. The lid is exquisitely engraved with musical instruments inside a cartouche. The side is engraved with decorative guirlandes and even the bottom is nicely engraved. Showing the high quality of this piece. The box is hallmark with what is probably the mst famous hallmark in existence: the French cock with number 1. This hallmark was used between 1798 and 1809 for high grade 950 silver. Next to this mark is the French guarantee mark from the same period. Both the lid and the box are further hallmarked with a maker's mark and possibly a town mark. All box are engraved and the base is engraving depicting a fortress. Not small is long 70 mm( 2,76 inch) wide 55 mm( 2.18 inch) and high 25 mm( inch 1.00) Fantastic and very rare condition without problem for the stone and silver. ANTIQUE SNUFF STERLING SILVER/ SILVERPLATE BOX ENGRAVED 1864 I'm not sure if this is silver or silverplate. Maybe you can tell. Most of the ones I've seen on eBay seem to be silver. I do know it's old. It's dated 1864. It does have some hallmarks in the inside as you can see. But I'm not sure what they are. It has some fancy detailing. The hinge is damaged. It looks like someone tried to open this while the hinge was stuck and it broke off. It still fits in there pretty well. It might need some more polishing. It may be collectible to someone. You might be able to loosen the hinge and braze it together. I'll let you decide what it's worth. The top is engraved with the name: Th. Baldenius The bottom: W.
