Antique English Sterling Silver Jewellery or Ring Box
A most unusual little trinket or ring box with modelled in a very elegant shaped supported on three legs. The slightly domed lid has a raised border decorated with a ribbon and reed design. The lid opens to reveal the original lined interior with a Burgundy coloured velvet and an gilded lid. The box of course is hallmarked for Birmingham 1908. A beautiful antique jewellery box in deep red leather top is adorned with a sterling sliver plaque which is deplicting cherubs. Flowers and leaves and really is very pretty.It is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1903 and makers of WJ Myatt& co.It has a reg no of R9417910. The silver mount measures approx 18cm.The silver is in very good condition with no major damage only a minor ding.The pictures show what super condition it is in.The lock also has a mounted flower adourning it which is also sterling silver. The wine coloured leather is in good condition and inside it is silk lined.The box measures 22cm by 20.5cm and has a height of 9.5cm.There is no key with the box. The box has a hallmark of the anchor lion and d. I can not make out the makers mark. The box measures 4.5"W x 4.5"L x 2.25"H weighing 423.8 gms with the liner and bottom 218.4 gms of sterling silver with out the liner and bottom. There is a couple of tiny dents on the sides and one crease on one side shown in the 3rd pic. in middle of the side just under the lid. Minor for its age and still looks stunning. Maker: W C for William Comyns. This elegant Box has a Hammered effect to all sides. A Circular Cartouch to the lid which is Blank. Inside has a Leather lined tray to hold Rings. Chains and much more. This Tray has been re lined at some stage in it's life but i think a long while ago. The Base of the interior has the original lining of an Emerald Green Leather look paper. A pocket to the back for storing perhaps calling cards or a small hand Mirror. Also holds a wide Green ribbon for lifting the top tray up. The Base of the box has a paper lining( please see photo's) A slight rattle to the lid when lifted. No damage to the Silver. Accord Antiques This outstanding large and heavy cigar/jewellery box was made by the venerable firm of silversmiths Harman Brothers of Birmingham. It carries the Birmingham hallmark for 1975 in a large lozenge on the side of the box and also on the side of the lid. The hallmarks are crisps and clear it also has the makers mark next to the hallmarks. This beautiful box stands on four raised pad feet. Has superb engine turned decoration all over the sides. It has a rampant lion crest set in the top of the box and also a large uninscribed oblong lozenge set on the front of the box. A sterling silver box of this quality. Size and weight would cost in excess of £2000 if purchased today from a reputable silversmith. The condition of this fine solid silver box is perfect and original. This is a lovely jewellery box made in 1911 by Mappin& Webb. The box is rectangular in shape with pointed sides and it stands on four scroll feet. The lid of the box has a shaped silver border with a superb faux tortoiseshell panel to the centre with pique inlaid silver swirling leaves. Flowers and ribbons. The lid is hinged and the inside of the box has a red velvet lining with a strand of gold twisted rope. The box is 8 inches/ 204 mm wide and 4-3/4 inches/ 120 mm deep. Trinket or Ring Box measures approximately 2 3/8 inches or 61 mm across the width or diameter of its lid from side to side and it stands just under 1 5/8 inches or 41 mm tall to the top of its lid. The box is made from sterling silver that was once completely gilded or gold plated in a circular shape that stands on three shaped raised relief decorated legs. The box has a three section piano hinged lid that has been internally gilded or gold plated and the top of its lid has been wonderfully decorated with blue guilloche enamel, the inside of the body has a pale brown velvet lining and the box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, the underside of the body has a pale brown velvet inset ... morepanel and the side of the boxes body and lid have been impressed with English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, A C- Anchor- Lion Passant- B A C is the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark of Albert Carter. The Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver and the letter B is the date letter for 1926. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The Guilloche Enamel is in Mint Condition with No Chips. No Cracks and No Surface Scratches. The box has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks and No Holes and the box has No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the hinge is working perfectly, the lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the definition and decoration is very crisp, the internal lining is in mint condition with no splits and no tares, the silver hallmarks are rubbed or worn but still partially legible although as the box is a used antique the external gilding is very worn and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, the box has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. The lid is broken off at hinge and one leg has came away a little from the body, the leg would be easily fixed but the hinge may be a harder fix, there is the odd small dink but nothing at all drastic. The top has a good engine turned design. With a conceded back hinge which is also in very good condition. The base is covered with black leather.
