England in 1820 by the illustrious silversmith, John Bettridge. It is in a gorgeous octagonal shape with stunning engraved decoration to the lid and base. It is gilded internally and is NOT engraved to the cartouche on the lid. It measures 1 7/8" long by 1 1/8" deep and stands almost 5/8" thick. It weighs 18.6 grams- well over 1/2 troy oz. The workmanship is excellent- the lid is still a good fit but with some spring. It is in very good condition- less than the usual surface scratching. NO dents, a few dings but with NO splits or repairs- see photographs- SUPERB. The internal gilding is in excellent condition also. It is hallmarked with IB, George III duty mark, anchor, lion passant(sterling silver assay mark) W showing that this snuff box was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1820. Circa 1760. 2.8" x 2.3" and 1.1" high. It weighs 74g. Unmarked but tests as solid silver. The silver and carved mother of pearl panel are very good with no splits, holes, dents or repairs. The plain mother of pearl base has a chip from on corner(see photos) Also, there is some very lightly scratched writing around the silver box. This can hardly be seen without a glass and I cannot make it out. again please see photos) This is a very rare and good quality 18th century box and very highly sought after. Description Antique 18th Century Georgian Colonial Solid Silver& faux Tortoiseshell oval snuff box. The solid silver sides are mounted with faux Tortoiseshell cover and base. As usual such pieces are not Hallmarked English silver but has been acid tested and shows to be 925 Standard silver purity. Probably English Colonial, year c.1760-1780's. England in 1820 by the illustrious silversmith, John Bettridge. It is in a gorgeous octagonal shape with stunning engraved decoration to the lid and base. It is gilded internally and is NOT engraved to the cartouche on the lid. It measures 1 7/8" long by 1 1/8" deep and stands almost 5/8" thick. It weighs 18.6 grams- well over 1/2 troy oz. The workmanship is excellent- the lid is still a good fit but with some spring. It is in very good condition- less than the usual surface scratching. NO dents, a few dings but with NO splits or repairs- see photographs- SUPERB. The internal gilding is in excellent condition also. Georgian Scottish Horn and Silver Mounted Snuff Mull Antique Description Please scroll down for additional pictures: Description: This is a magnificent silver mounted horn snuff mull from Scotland. The piece features a curled horn design with silver mounts and a central vacant cartouche to the lid. Around the silver rim is some personalisation of the original owners name. But I must confess I can't properly read the elaborate text. If anyone can help with this please get in touch. The silver is not hallmarked, but this is very common in these sort of pieces. The inside of the lid features a cork stopper covered with what looks like animal skin. Dimensions: The mull is approximately 3" tall. Condition: The piece has no hallmarks on the silver but this is common for items of this type. The piece has a split in the horn which has happened ... moreover time as the horn has changed shape. This can be seen in the detailed pictures(3) The hinge is nice and stiff but the lid is a little warped in places meaning that the lid does not close flush with the piece. All in all. These things are to be expected of a piece that is probably 200+ years of age and it is still an attractive collectable piece. Antique and vintage silver has been around for a long time and as such will always show signs of it's age and use. Silver is soft and attracts surface scratching and age marks easily. GEORGIAN GOLD AND SILVER ARMORIAL SNUFF BOX BY JOSEPH WILLMORE 1811 This is a most attractive Georgian silver snuff box fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1811. And bearing the maker's mark for Joesph Willmore. The box is decorated with neoclassical engraving and was originally fully gilded, to the lid is inset a gold cartouche engraved with an armorial leopards head. Along the inner edge of the lid is engraved the name Dominick Sarsfield who was in all probability the original owner. The Sarsfields' were an ancient Irish noble family established in Cork since medieval times. Many of them served as High Sherriffs and Mayors of Cork from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries. Early generations of the family lived at Sarsfield's Court and Kilmallock. There was a Dominick Sarsfield(c1570-1636) who as 1st Viscount Sarsfield was ... moreCheif Justice of the Irish Common Pleas. There were many generations of Dominicks in the Sarsfield family. But records tell us there was a Dominick Sarsfield living at Windsor House near Cork in 1814. At the 1861 English census a Dominick Sarsfield(who was born born in 1790) was living in Cheshire. If he was the Dominick who this box belonged to it may mean(since it was made in 1811) that it was a 21st birthday present. The box measures around 7 cm x 3.5 cm and weighs 39 grams. The lid closes snugly, there is some general rubbing and several small knocks to the sides but the box but remains a very pleasing piece in good order for its age.

Georgian Victorian Sterling Silver & Ivory Snuff Box Opium Patch Elephant
Very unusual early sterling silver box with a carved ivory lid. The carving is a detailed Asian elephant's head. Notice the fine detail in the skin especially. This is a hard piece for me to date very precisely. But it has significant age judging by the construction and yellowing of the ivory. Probably early to mid 1800s, maybe earlier. There are no markings, but the metal tests as sterling. This was probably intended for snuff or opium. But possibly something else. Excellent condition. Closes tightly. Measures 1.25" wide. Hallmarked Georgian Silver 1810 Snuff Box. Amazing Naval History Inscription.
A Truly Stunning. Unique and History Laden Snuff Box. Fully hallmarked for 1810, and with gilt lined interior. Approximately 7.5cm diameter and 3.1oz. This was sold at Charles Miller Auctioneers(the world's leading naval auctioneers) in March 2011. The history surrounding it is fascinating. The Pallas was returning from a cruise of Norway in late 1810 and heading for Leith. With poor visibility and frequent showers, lime burners' kilns at Dunbar(Scotland) were mistaken for the Bell Rock lighthouse. Altering to the wrong course, she ran hard aground and in a few minutes had shipped 12ft of water. Cutting the fore and main masts away to landward, the ships company, with the help of those on shore, were able to scamble over the wreckage to shore. Miraculously, I think) there were no fatalities. The fabulous inscription on this snuff ... morebox reads, A token of gratitude from the officers of H.M. Ship Pallas to the Duchess of Roxburgh and John Manners Esq. For their united efforts in saving the lives of the officers and crew of that ship. Which was wrecked the night of the 18th Sept. 1810. Antique George IV Solid Silver Snuff Box. Beautiful and heavy box which is not in original condition but which is in a very good functional order. The box is clearly hallmarked for Edward Smith. Birmingham 1828. So it's a little shy of 200 years old. The main part of the box is in excellent order still with quite crisp engine turned decoration and heavy cast sides. The lid appears to be original to the box but isn't hallmarked which is unusual. The engine turned decoration to the lid is a little more polished and the blank. Rectangular cartouche appears to have been added. Nevertheless it's a fully functional and beautiful almost 200 year old solid silver snuff box made by one of the leading Birmingham box makers. Small oval in shape with a fine decorative rim on the lid and base.it has LOST its hinged grill. Hallmarked inside with a lion for Sterling silver. The makers mark is TW which is probably for the Birmingham Silversmith Thomas Willmore. And the letter b, dates it to 1799. It still retains its gilt interior. But as you can see the hinged grill is missing along with the sponge. It measures approx 34mm x 26mm x 14mm. It weighs 13.3 grams. In nice condition with some age and use wear. GEORGIAN SILVER SNUFF BOX This beautiful solid silver snuff box is in fantastic condition for its age. The box is Birmingham assayed with date letter'q' for 1814. The makers mark is'IS' for John Shaw. The inside of the box is gilt with lid and box hallmarked as shown in the photos. Its hinge works well closing tightly with the hinge line virtually disappearing when shut. The lid cartouche hasn't been engraved The box measures approx. 61mm by 33mm by 15mm and weighs 40.4gms.

A rare very good quality Georgian sterling silver mounted snuff box. It is unmarked as is common but tests as sterling silver. I would date it to c1790-1810. It has been beautifully design being made from a deer's hoof and horn- most likely a hunting trophy made from a hunted stag. It has been beautifully made being unusually shaped with a silver rim. Silver stud work, a silver oval cartouche and bright cut silver hinge. It is in super condition the silver being free from dings splits and repairs. The hoof has light marks around the lid edge and a tiny hole near a pin at the back but neither of any consequence considering its age and rarity- see final photo. The hinge works perfectly, the lid closes well, the inside is clean and it retains its original lid seal. Description: This is a very unusual snuff box in silver bearing the name"JOHN BEST LIVERPOOL" The design ornate pattern& shape of this snuff box is so unusual I am willing to bet that most if not all collectors have never seen this before. Coupled with its excellent condition& named provenace on the box combine to make this a very rare& desirable case for the serious collectors of silver. Hallmarked for 1827 with the duty head of king for George IV. the silver makers mark TS for Thomas Shaw.It measures 3 inches long by nearly 2 inches wide by 0.75 inches thick. This snuff box has the most wonderful decoration which is highly unusual in being so ornate& the box is still crisp in decoration. There are no dents no rubbings of the decoration. A very interesting and unusual silver snuff box. It is hallmarked with a Portuguese makers mark and the 916 standard mark(slightly lower grade than sterling at 925) showing it was made in Lisbon post 1938. I would date it to the early period late 1930’s-1940’s. It has been made in the style of an 18 th century piece being made in the form of a shoe. There are faint signs of gilding to the sole. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The lid forms a good tight seal. A superb survivor from the Georgian period of England. A heavy solid silver snuff box and vesta holder. Fully hallmarked for London 1822 the makers marks are John Linnet sometimes spelt Linnit(see image 3) This is a substantial snuff box weighing in at nearly 190g with engine turned decoration overall with a cast scroll border top and bottom. The lid has a blank cartouche that you could get engraved with your initials or that of a loved one. the interior is very lightly gilded with full hallmarks inside. The box was adapted to provide an integral vesta holder in 1898 and this is also hallmarked beneath the lid of the vesta holder. The box is generally very good for its age. Splendid GeorgeIV Military Interest Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Snuff Box made by Ledsam& Vale. Description- Superb rectangular solid silver snuff box with hinged lid and foliate thumb piece. The snuff box has nice engine turned decoration to the lid, sides and base with a central catouche with engraved initials. The interior is silver-gilt(Gold washed) and has the engraved inscription"Colonel P.L.M Wright. ID. from the Warwickshire Yeomanry Old Comrades Association 1945- 1950" The box is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay. The lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the King's head, the date letter"D" for the year 1827 and the makers mark"L& Co" which is Ledsam& Vale. Here we have for auction a stunningly beautiful Georgian silver snuff box. Offered from a low start price with no reserve! This is the work of the well regarded silversmith Matthew Linwood. Assayed in Birmingham c1810. His work is sought after and as you can see he was very talented. The snuff box is decorated with an engine turned design, with rococo borders and wonderful gilding work. Hallmarks are good and legible but there is no date letter present on this piece. There is no damage present and also desirably a vacant cartouche. so overall a very nice example. An exceptional cast Georgian silver gilt snuff box. Made in Birmingham 1811. The box has a cast top with a wonderful image of a shepard tending to his sheep. There is a musical instrument and jug next to him. The setting appears to be a field with the sun in the sky(including a face in the sun which is visible) The details and condition are outstanding. The sides and bottom are also cast with exceptional quality and condition(see pictures for pattern on sides and bottom) The makers mark is"T&T" for Thropp and Taylor(Jackson. Page 355) The marks for Birmingham. 1811 are very clear. The box is 7 cm in length by 4.5 cm wide. It weighs a respectable 3.74 ounces(106 grams) It comes in a leather clad box as well(the leather box may not be original) A very nice box in top condition.
