This is a lovely silver snuff box made in the reign of King George III by maker GE in London 1806. I have not managed to trace this maker so I cannot tell you who it is. If however anyone knows who the maker is. Please let me know. The box has rounded sides and has reeded decoration all over. The lid of the box is set into the top with a fine thumbpiece to the front. The inside of the box is gilded- there is some loss to the gilding. The box is 3 inches/ 76 mm wide and 1-5/8 inches/ 41 mm deep. It stands 1/2 inch/ 13 mm high and weighs 72 grams. The inside of the lid and the base both have clear hallmarks- lion passant. London mark, duty mark, letter L for 1806 and maker's mark GE. The box is in good condition. It closes tightly and there is no wear to hinge. Little if any wear to repousse and the gold wash on interior. There are a few small dents in bottom. It has a floral raised relief pattern. It is marked Henry Mathews. Birmingham, England. 1901. It measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and is 1" tall. weighs is 21 grams. Insurance is included in shipping cost. This was most likely made by one of his sons William or Thomas in the 1850’s. Mills is one of, if not the most, sought after English silversmiths in the history of fine English silver work. Stunning Antique English sterling silver oval snuff box made in Birmingham. England in 1907. I was unable to identify the hallmarks other than this. This uniquely beautiful box is spring-loaded; you squeeze both ends to pop the lid open. Beautifully engraved. There are no monograms. The back is unadorned, with slight scuffing consistent with age. There is one tiny dent on back side edge, and a pin size ding on the underside; I couldn't get a good close-up of either, but they are minor. Measurements: 3.5"w x 2.5"d x 1"h. Although it is similarly hallmarked inside both covers. Bearing the maker’s mark CM, I have been unable to identify the location of the maker and thereby ascertain the exact age or location of this piece(although it looks to be around 1810) The box measures 2-3/4 inches long, 1-7/8 inches wide and 5/8 of an inch tall. It weighs in at 3.01 Troy ounces. This box has clear and crisp engraving and is free of buffing, thinness, removals, splits or repairs. There is also no bleeding of the silver through the gold wash.
