Description Antique 18th Century Very Rare Georgian Colonial Solid Silver mounted coconut tea caddy on circular pierced foot. Beautifully decorated with a pierced silver setting, twin cast caryatid handles and hinged lid. Two vacant shields mounted on the coconut body. Not hallmarked as if often the case, but has been acid tested and shows to be high grade silver 925+, made around the 1750-1760. Condition In Great Condition- no damage. ART DECO Solid Silver LARGE CIGARETTE BOX 1948 Hallmarked Sterling Mounted NR Birmingham: William Neale& Son- 13 troy oz- STUNNING This is a super VINTAGE ART DECO solid sterling silver mounted cigarette box that was made by the illustrious silversmiths. William Neale& Son in Birmingham, England in 1948 at their Cox Street workshops. It has a wooden lining and leatherette base. It measures 4 3/8" wide by 3 3/8" deep by 2" high to the top of its lid. It has an engine turned and patterned finish to the lid and is engraved with H.R.P. to the cartouche on the lid and to the front with From the Employees of Letheringsett Hall on the occasion of her marriage 17-4-53. The ensemble weighs 393.3 grams- almost 12 3/4 troy oz. The base bears the hallmark of WN&SLd. Unusual wooden(possibly cedar wood) cigarette box with solid silver English hallmarked mounts. Dating to the Edwardian era. Could be used as a trinket or jewellery box. All four corner mounts and the central'Cigarettes' caption are hallmarked as follows; Cigarettes' bears makers mark'CG&CO' for Corke Brothers& Co; quite an uncommon maker. Further hallmarked with the date letter'm' for 1907, the lion denoting sterling silver. And the panthers head for London. All four mounts have variously rubbed hallmarks. Without the makers mark. The box measures 14.4 cms long by 9.3 cms wide and is 4.3 cms tall. CONDITION. As mentioned. Some hallmarks are rubbed. There is a piece missing from the'Cigarettes' application(could be repaired? Firstly i will explain the wonderful decoration and mounts, the snuff box itself is round in shape with stunning repousse decoration of scrolls, foliage and flowers in abundance with a blank central cartouche to the bottom and is hallmarked for the important Victorian silversmiths Martin Hall& Co which in itself is a sign of top quality. The hinged top has a large black and white banded agate mount which in itself is stunning, then on opening this wonderful lid you will see it has a rare mounted Enamel Prince Regent Coat of Arms and the interior still retains its deep rich gold ... moregilt finish i dont believe this has ever been used. there are a couple of theories regarding the snuff box and its rare coat of arms, the first being that the Prince Regent had this rare enamel coat of arms mounted into something else of the finest quality and kept it within the Royal Family and was then given remounted as a gift to the future Edward VII as 1912 was the year of his 18th Birthday. The reason i say this is because it is hallmarked for 1912 which would make this extremely special or the Prince Regent gave it to someone close to him as a gift and it has been remounted later, which ever one it may be still makes this extremely scarce as the Prince Regent Enamel to the top once belonged to him nearly 200 years ago the quality of the craftsmanship is superb. This has been crafted with a good gauge of silver weighing 32.5 grams, this shows the normal signs of wear with little bruising near the neck and the line on the body is the seam not a split and the enamel has wear but still in lovely condition considering its nearly 200 years old, that being said it doesnt detract at all from its beauty, this just adds to its history, just mentioned for accuracy. Beautiful silver mounted trinket box. With clear Italian hallmarks, Circular shaped with a dark blue velvet outer covering and lining. The silver top has a rose design. Diameter approximately 2-1/4 inches and 1-3/8" high and in excellent condition.
