The box has Maker's Mark for William Comyns. This box is relatively large and heavy. Weighing 144.5 grams. The box has a hinged lid which opens from one of the short ends exposing the entire interior. We suspect that it is a cigarette box. The lid of the box has a high relief design depicting an unknown castle on top of a hill with mountains and a water body in the background and a house at the bottom of the hill where the castle is sitting. There are trees and a picket fence. The sky on top of the scene has light imprints of circular shape suggesting the sun? clouds? Just a great design with fine details, just look at the trees, the bridge, and the water below it. The sides of the box are decorated with a nice scroll design, while the bottom of the box is plain and smooth. The edges of the box are toothed or variegated giving the box a very mice appearance. The piece is relatively larger in size than usual cigarette boxes are and as we indicated weighs quite a bit. The interior of the box is plain except that the back of the lid shows the design in reverse. It is very clean and shiny. Just a great and wonderful antique that very seldom comes by having excellent details. Unfortunately we do not know which castle is depicted on the lid. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1883. Origin: London England. In the United Kingdom. Size: Measures ~3" by ~4" and is 11/16" deep. The piece weighs about 144.5 grams or a bit over 4.5 troy ounces. Maker: William Comyns. WELCOME We are selling an Art Deco Sterling Silver Cigarette Box. Hallmarked London 1933 Boodle& Dunthorne The box has been used. But it's in good condition. Some dents of age and usage are vissable on the silver. The wood on the inside of the box has some damage. On the left side and on the left corner in the front, the wooden rim has broken of and glued back. The wooden plate in the middle is loose. An antique sterling silver cigarette box. The box measures approximately 11cm x 8.5cm x 5cm and it weighs 450g in total. The inside of the box is wood lined and it has a movable divider with three positions. The inside of the lid has a gilded finish. Both the lid and the main body of the box are hallmarked for London 1918. With a maker's mark of JB, probably for the silversmith Joseph Braham. A beautiful 1976 Art Deco designed silver wood lined cigarette box as shown. This super item is length 14 cms x 9.5 cms wide x 3.8 cms deep. The box is high gloss polished silver with an engine turned border to the lid, the front of the lid has a fine thumb catch in flowing detail, It has full U K hallmarks for London. date letter B for 1976. The makers mark S.J.R for S.J.Rose, the box weighs 275 grams complete with base and lining. the inside wood has been repaired in the past to the left front but you would not know unless you look inside a fine repair it appears as a seam in the centre of the timber the lower joint below the silver line not showing,the outside has some marks from use it is approx 40 years old and may well get a few more in the future, it will polish well and look super on a coffee table or even a dressing table for trinkets ... moreect.
