This is a superb antique Victorian hallmarked sterling silver vinaigrette made by Edward Smith and hallmarked for Birmingham in 1849. It measures just over 1 1/4" 3.5 cms) x 1" 2.5 cms) and is in very g ood condition inside and out and looks as though it's hardly ever been used. It even has the original sponge inside. There are no engravings or monograms and it weighs 16.6 grams. A vinaigrette is a small receptable which contains scented vinegar used by ladies to ward off faintness. It usually has a pierced metal grille under a securely hinged lid to cover a sponge saturated with a scented substance. Antique Georgian Solid Silver Snuff Box Edward Smith, Birmingham 1828, 97g 3.4oz
Antique George IV Solid Silver Snuff Box. Beautiful and heavy box which is not in original condition but which is in a very good functional order. The box is clearly hallmarked for Edward Smith. Birmingham 1828. So it's a little shy of 200 years old. The main part of the box is in excellent order still with quite crisp engine turned decoration and heavy cast sides. The lid appears to be original to the box but isn't hallmarked which is unusual. The engine turned decoration to the lid is a little more polished and the blank. Rectangular cartouche appears to have been added. Nevertheless it's a fully functional and beautiful almost 200 year old solid silver snuff box made by one of the leading Birmingham box makers. Very rare and exceptional William IV sterling silver snuff box. Fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1833. This is a magnificent and very rare silver snuff box with a depiction finely chased in high relief of The Last Supper with Jesus seated to the centre of a long table and with his twelve disciples seated either side of him. The chasing is very fine and crisp with the pictures and wood of the room and roof to the background. The box has chased leaf and flower rims to the top and bottom edges and a finely chased thumbpiece to the front. The sides and underside of the box are finely engine turned. The front of the box has a vacant rectangular cartouche. The inside of the box is gilded and has a presentation inscription to the inside of the lid. A very pretty antique sterling silver snuff box of good gauge and quality and lovely shape and size. Fully and clearly hallmarked with the anchor for the assay town of Birmingham. The lion passant for the sterling standard guarantee, the date letter'B' for the year 1850, and the young head of Queen Victoria as duty mark. Maker's mark: ES for the silversmith Edward Smith. This lovely example is in excellent overall condition with no faults to report. No nasty dents and no repairs. Here I have a very very nice table snuff box on offer. In a excellent condition. No splits no repairs only a few small wear in the interior gilt. The gilt is fadding in a few small section as shown in pictures, the hinge is in good order opens and close tight. Engined turned throughout the box top, side and bottom. The cartouche is monogrammed, but is rubbed. Fully hallmark for Edward Smith, Birmingham, date 1844. Edward smith Victorian silver snuff c1838
Here I have a very nice solid silver snuff box on offer. Fully hallmark for the renowned silversmith Edward Smith. Birmingham date 1838. The condition is very good consider its age, no splits, no repairs I can see, but there are a few wear due to age, a few small dings, the lid close but a little loose, and where the cartouche is on top lid due to rubbing is a bit dent, only mention for description, and a few wears to the top rim. The cartouche is initial with a letter, and the base with DAP, engined turned top and base, with the thumb grib and around top of lid is finished in a flower and fauna design. The interior is gilt, but have scratches. The box measures just under 3" wide and 2.75" long, weighing 91.5 grams.
