This is a delightful little silver snuff box which is hallmarked for London import. 1886/7. It is silver gilt on the inside to protect it from the corrosive effect of the snuff. The lid portrays puttii involved in various crafts, such as artist and sculptor, and the side is decorated with a floral design. There is some evidence of wear and a few minor dents which are commensurate with its age and having been used, but in my opinion, these are not disfiguring and indeed add to the character of this charming little snuff box. The approximate weight is 38 gms. From a collection. We offer a terrific enamel and silver box with a splendid appearance. The top is enameled in canary yellow with black lines and the rest is in worked silver. Bears the London sterling import mark and the date letter"N" for 1928. One of the most stunning boxes I have ever seen. Condition Excellent. The initials beside the silver hallmarks are AJ. These marks are on the right edge of the lid too. On the other side is a maker's mark'EXQUISITE' A STAR MARK AND.375. The surfaces of this compact have no signs of wear or damage at all.
