Solid Silver Oval Shaped Pill/Snuff Box There is no maker's name on this box. There is however a"CM" or"MC" intertwined on the flat oval lid. Which could either be the maker's name or more likely the name of the store that sold it. There are two clearly visible Sterling Silver hallmarks on the lid namely a"Lion" and a letter"K" If it is a London piece it was made in 1905. If however, it was a Birmingham piece it was made in 1909. There are also 4 hallmarks on the main lower part of this box but as they are not clearly visible I'm not going to speculate what they might be. There are some small dents and some tiny pin prick dents on the lid and underside. Small oval in shape with a fine decorative rim on the lid and base.it has LOST its hinged grill. Hallmarked inside with a lion for Sterling silver. The makers mark is TW which is probably for the Birmingham Silversmith Thomas Willmore. And the letter b, dates it to 1799. It still retains its gilt interior. But as you can see the hinged grill is missing along with the sponge. It measures approx 34mm x 26mm x 14mm. It weighs 13.3 grams. In nice condition with some age and use wear. HONEST ITEMS HONESTLY PRESENTED RE-HOMING FAMILY ITEMS This auction is for a vintage age unknown hallmarked(Egyptian marks) solid silver small oval box with a very secure lid. No problems with the hinge either that is why I take a picture of boxes open back and front to show this. Nice Hieroglyphic detail all over the box with a plain base. The mark you can see on the outside of the base is caused by the hallmark being stamped on the inside- not a flaw. There are marks possibly caused by tobacco dust or something else on the inside of the lid. No splits. Nice little box with no dinks. The box measures. Slightly under 1-1/4" x 1-1/16" including lip x 1/2 Weight. 17grams. Presumably it is rose quartz. Marked 925 in the base of the box it also has an assay mark underneath telling us that it was imported into Sheffield during 1995 as pictured. It measures 1.75" long by 1.25" wide by 0.5" high approximately and weighs 1.07 ounces(30.3g) although this weight does of course include the non-silver area of the lid. It has the usual light/ faint scuffs and scratches that all silver objects tend to attract but no particular dents or ... moredings around the bodywork that I can find.
