This is a super antique solid silver peppermint box measuring 3.8 cm tall x 3,4 cm x 2,9 cm. The box weighs 28 grams and is in good condition for it's age with a couple of small dints/surface marks that you would expect to see. Stunning Antique Solid Sterling Silver Trinket Pill Snuff Box, Dutch Soldiers
This is a very rare and stunning snuff box. It's a great piece to add to any collection. For its age it is in very good condition. Was very dirty before I cleaned it. It's sterling silver. It does not have any marking but I have taken it to my jeweler and he tested as 90% silver. I have also taken it to my antique guy and his eyes lit up when he saw it. I was told by him that it's definitely from the late 1800's and made in Dutch and its not marked because it was so old. Measures almost 2" in diameter and about 3/4" high. A stunning good sized very picture top silver snuff box. It is hallmarked with an 800 standard mark only. It tests as high grade silver. It would have been produced in either the Netherlands or Hanau Germny c1890. It has been beautifully designed having a cast lid depicting a highly detailed tavern scene and scroll and flower decorated sides. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The inside is clean and the lid forms a good tight seal. It is as mentioned a large example measuring a touch under 3.5 inches(8.7cms) by 2 and 3/8ths(6.1cms) by 0.5 inches(1.1cms) tall. It weighs a very respectable 87 grams. Exquisite Hallmarked Solid Silver Dutch Peppermint Or Lodderein Box Description- Very good Dutch octagonal scroll shaped solid silver peppermint or Lodderein box with a hinged lid which has a domed embossed pattern with a central scroll hand engrave cartouche. The box is beautifully decorated with engraved bands of varied patterns. There is an applied blank central cartouche, the base has the initals"L Z" etched. The box has a full set Dutch hallmarks which are stamped in various places. Antique Victorian Dutch Solid Silver Gilt Snuff Pill Box Full Hallmarks for 1877
For your consideration A Very Pretty Antique Victorian Dutch Solid Silver-Gilt Engraved Ladies' Snuff Box/ Pill Box with Seed Pearls and Ruby/Garnet Coloured Cabochons- Fully Hallmarked and dated to 1877 Silver is not my strong point. But I am trying my best to describe this item. This lovely hinge-lidded gilt silver box was made in Holland. It is a engraved and has filigree work and what appear to be seed pearl and ruby/garnet-coloured cabochons applied to its lid. It bears at least 4. Possibly 5 hallmarks: the Lion Passant, Minerva(but I cannot make out the location letter on her helmet, as it was engraved after the mark had been impressed) the date letter"S" for 1877 and then two marks(one inside the lid and one in the bottom) that are most likely the maker's marks, but they are too rubbed for me to decipher them. The ... moreinside of the lid also bears the following scratch marks: 028 26588 dato. The box weighs in at 32 grams. It measures ca. 2.25" 5.8 cm) in diameter and just over 0.75" 2 cm) high(without the filigree topping. The box is in very good condition with minor scratches and the odd very tiny ding. But the gilding has rubbed off the bottom(see photos) I did not dare polish the box, as I am not sure how to go about it and how it would effect the gilding- it could do with a polish though. Antique Dutch Solid Silver Hinged Top Relief Decorated Pill or Snuff Box from Amsterdam circa 1820 This Antique Dutch Pill or Snuff Box measures approximately 1 1/4 inches or 32 mm across its length of its lid from side to side by just under 1 1/4 inches or 31 mm across the depth of its lid from the hinge to the front and it stands 1 1/4 inches or 32 mm tall to the top of its lid. The box is made from solid silver in a delightful serpentine like shape and it has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid. The sides of the outer body and the top of its lid have shaped panels that each has a different embossed or raised relief and engraved decoration and the box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, the underside of the body has been impressed with a Dutch.833 standard solid silver triple X over the ... moreletter B that I believe is an early Amsterdam assay office mark and this is alongside what was once a Dutch silversmith or makers mark, the upper rim of the body has also been impressed with a Dutch stylized dolphin tax mark that was used from 1814 all as photographed below and I estimate that this box was made circa 1820. The condition is used and fairly good for its age. The box has No Large Dents. No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I have found, the box stands straight, the decoration is fairly crisp, the hinge is working perfectly, the lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the Dutch silver marks are rubbed or worn due to their location although as the pill or snuff box is a used antique it does have one tiny polishing wear hole within the raised decoration on the top of its lid and it has several small shallow dents around its body and lid along with along with some minor surface marks and wear from years of use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would enhance it greatly. Antique Dutch Solid Silver Relief Decorated Trinket or Pill Box circa 1930's
Antique Dutch Solid Silver Relief Decorated Trinket or Pill Box from Amsterdam circa 1930's This Antique Dutch Trinket or Pill Box measures approximately 1 5/8 inches or 41 mm across the length of its body from side to side by 1 1/4 inches or 32 mm across the width of its body from the hinge to the front and it stands 7/8 of an inch or 22 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from 28.8 grams of solid silver in an oval shape that has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid. The outer body of the box has been delightfully embossed or raised relief and engrave decorated with a band of stylized flowers and foliage over a rib decorated lower band and the lid rim has also been relief decorated with a ribbed band for ease of opening, the top of the lid has also been wonderfully raised relief and engrave decorated ... morewith a Dutch street scene that includes knights, men, women, children and a dog etc with a castle in the background and the box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below, the underside of the body has been impressed with a Dutch.833 standard solid silver sword mark along with the Dutch silversmith or makers mark of Zaanlandse Zilversmederij from Amsterdam whose mark is recorded as being used from 1920 again as photographed below and I estimate that this trinket or pill box was made circa 1930's. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The box has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I have found, the box stands upright, the definition and decoration is crisp, the hinge is working perfectly, the lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the Dutch silver and makers marks are still legible although as this trinket or pill box is a used antique it does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Antique Solid Silver Hallmarked Dutch Pill/ Snuff Box Decorative 6cm By 5cm Lovely Dutch snuff box lovely engraving throughout. Made in a Georgian style although I can't date it as the marks are rubbed I would guess early to mid 19th century but please view for your self. Width: 6cm Depth: 5cm Height: 2cm approx Weight: 22.3g Hallmark: Lion over 2. 77 over B, looks to be a X and a head to the edge. There are quite a few dents and dings throughout. The top has split/ worn through along the floral decoration to the top and it is slightly misshapen stopping it from closing fully and as it should. Any questions please feel free to ask.

These hallmarks were commonly used on Dutch solid silver items that were considered to be too small to carry a full set of Dutch silver hallmarks. Initial engravings/ Monograms: None.
