Material: 800 Silver(with a gold wash on the inside) Signed: This item is hallmarked on the inside with the Dog head hallmark that was used on 800 silver items in Austria-Hungary. there is also a KTA Makers mark and another mark.please see images. Dimensions: This item OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS measures about 3 3/16" x 2 5/8" x 9/16" or so'thick' at the largest points. The INSIDE DIMENSIONS of this case are about 2 7/8" x 2 1/8" or so. Gemstones: None Monograms: None Weight: 104.6 grams Condition: This item is in decent vintage condition with a few signs of age/wear and use. Please see images to get a closer look at this items condition. The silver has no large dents/major scratches that I can find. There are some small scratches/tiny dings. A charming and unusual Victorian solid silver tobacco box or table snuff box. Fully hallmarked to lid and base for 1895 by good London makers Walter& John Barnard. Features elegant repousse work to the lid depicting two cherubs raising a child in their arms in a naturalistic setting of trees and foliage. It is of a rather unusual and tactile shape with gilded interior. In terms of condition. There is a bruise to the rim as pictured and minor shallow dints at the base. The box has curved sides and is heavily embossed with scroll foliate and floral patterns to the sides, the lid has been embossed in high relief with a naked female and winged cherubs being pulled by a horse and cart/chariot. A pretty German silver snuff/ tobacco box. It is hallmarked with the 800 standard mark. And the makers mark MK. It dates to c1900-1920. It has been beautifully designed being of rectangular form with embossed sides and a cast lid decorated with a basket of flowers. It is in super condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The inside is clean, the hinge strong and the lid closes tightly. It measures 4 inches(9.9cms) wide by almost 3.75 inches(7.8cms) deep by 0.75 inch(1.8cm) tall and weighs 137 grams. A beautifully made good quality example. The box is made from solid silver in a rectangular shape with internally curved corners on its front and back and it has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid. The box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below and although I have been unable to find any silver marks as is very typical with antique Indian ... moresilver items the box has been tested and it is guaranteed as being made from a high grade solid silver. I estimate that this palm held tobacco or snuff was made circa 1880- 1900. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The box has No Dents. No Holes, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I have found, the box is straight, the decoration and definition is very crisp, the box opens and closes fairly tightly with ease although as this is a used antique palm held pocket tobacco. Trinket or snuff box it does have the obvious signs that it was hand made and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique Indian palm held pocket tobacco, trinket o Fsnuff box can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it has a delightful look about it considering that it's around 120 or so years old. This is a very rare high quality antique handmade 19th century sterling silver and brass trinket snuff box. it can also be used as a tea caddy or whatever desired. The box is beautifully crafted out of extremely thick metals and is very heavy. it is made from solid brass with exquisite hand cut and inlaid pieces of sterling silver. the pattern is very intricate and intense on every angle of the box and is very well made. the inside part the box has three compartments and four hinged lids that are also inlaid with sterling. the compartments are covered by the large hinged lid and it has two thick brass handles which pivot back and forth on the mounts. Antique Austrian Solid Silver Engrave Decorated Tobacco Snuff Box by J Wenzel of Vienna dated 1854 This Antique Austrian Tobacco Snuff Box measures approximately 2 3/4 inches or 69 mm across the length of its body from side to side by just over 1 5/8 inches or 43 mm across its width from the hinge to the front catch and it stands 5/8 of an inch or 16 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from solid silver in a rectangular shape that has been internally gilded or gold plated and it has a nine section piano hinge on the back of its lid that has a shaped thumb or finger catch across its front edge. The entire outer body of the box has been wonderfully engrave decorated with a variety of patterns and the top of its lid has a rectangular shaped cartouche that has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family ... moremonogram, the box weighs 56.8 grams and the inner base of the body has been impressed with the Austrian silversmith or makers mark JW of John Wenzel of Vienna whose mark is recorded as being used from 1841 to 1860, it also has the Austrian silver mark that includes the letter A for the Vienna assay office along with the number 13 that is the Lodig mark of 812 standard solid silver and it has the assay office date of 1854 all as photographed below.
