Antique German Solid Silver Gilt Trinket Pill or Snuff Box by M Mayer circa 1895
Superb Antique German Solid Silver Gilt Ladies Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box by Martin Mayer circa 1895 This Antique Trinket, Pill or Snuff Box measures approximately 1 7/8 inches or 48 mm across the length of its body from side to side by 1 1/2 inches or 39 mm across the width of its body from the hinge to the front catch and it stands 5/8 of an inch or 16 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from solid silver that has been internally gilded or gold plated in an oval shape and it has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid that has a shaped thumb or finger catch on the front edge for ease of opening. The outer body and lid have been superbly embossed or raised relief and engrave decorated with foliate swags. Flowers and bows, the front of the body along with the top of the lid each has an oval shaped cartouche ... morethat has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the side rim of the lid has been impressed with a couple of later French solid silver imported item marks all as photographed below. The underside of the base or body has been impressed with the makers pattern number 74 that is below the German half moon and crown 800 standard solid silver mark, this is along side the Mainz silversmith or maker mark of Martin Mayer who are recorded as being founded in 1888, I estimate that this antique trinket, pill or snuff box was made circa 1890- 1900. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The Box has No Large Dents. No Holes, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the decoration is fairly crisp, the hinge is working perfectly. The lid opens and closes tightly with ease, the internal gilding is a good colour with only minimal wear. The German silver and makers marks are still legible although as the box is a used antique it does have the odd very small shallow dent in the underside or base of its body that is hardly worth mentioning and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use. The rectangular form with canted corners is decorated to both base and lid with a running border of bead and line design. A shaped thumbpiece to the lid. An Antique 19th century Cast Silver Gilt& Enamel Snuff Box. The top cast with a Medieval Hunting Scene with men and women on horseback and hunting dogs in a rural setting. The sides engraved and enamelled with leaves and scrolls in black. White and green. Very detailed and elaborate enamelling. Internally bright, fire or mercuric gilt. I cannot find any impressed assay or makers marks but it has been tested as positive for high grade silver. Probably continental, possibly Austro Hungarian or Germanic. Antique Victorian Dutch Solid Silver Gilt Snuff Pill Box Full Hallmarks for 1877
For your consideration A Very Pretty Antique Victorian Dutch Solid Silver-Gilt Engraved Ladies' Snuff Box/ Pill Box with Seed Pearls and Ruby/Garnet Coloured Cabochons- Fully Hallmarked and dated to 1877 Silver is not my strong point. But I am trying my best to describe this item. This lovely hinge-lidded gilt silver box was made in Holland. It is a engraved and has filigree work and what appear to be seed pearl and ruby/garnet-coloured cabochons applied to its lid. It bears at least 4. Possibly 5 hallmarks: the Lion Passant, Minerva(but I cannot make out the location letter on her helmet, as it was engraved after the mark had been impressed) the date letter"S" for 1877 and then two marks(one inside the lid and one in the bottom) that are most likely the maker's marks, but they are too rubbed for me to decipher them. The ... moreinside of the lid also bears the following scratch marks: 028 26588 dato. The box weighs in at 32 grams. It measures ca. 2.25" 5.8 cm) in diameter and just over 0.75" 2 cm) high(without the filigree topping. The box is in very good condition with minor scratches and the odd very tiny ding. But the gilding has rubbed off the bottom(see photos) I did not dare polish the box, as I am not sure how to go about it and how it would effect the gilding- it could do with a polish though. Antique Snuff Box Silver Gilt Set w Emerald Ruby Sapphire & other Gems (#3711)
Antique snuff box made of silver. Gold, mother of pearl, genuine precious gem stones(emerald, ruby, sapphire) hand engraved and enameled and with openwork lions and crown flanking a huge heart-shaped garnet. From the prestigious estate of Mrs Mary Timmins. Well-known collector and authority on antiques, who lectured on the subject in the 1940's, this was one of the pieces she used in her talk on Women in Colonial Days. Her son told me that the box is RUssian, but I found no hallmarks. See note below. Box dates to the 19th century. Box measures 2 7/7 X2 1/4 inches. Height is just under 3/4 inch. Rectangular in shape. Hinged, long, narrow thumbpiece in front of lid. Every side of the box is decorated. THe bottom outside is gilt with hand engraving of flowers and foliage. The sides are bordered by slightly protruding rims. With hand enamelled ... moredecoration in red, white and blue very finely painted inbetween. The top is covered first by a layer of mother of pearl. This has gilt overlay scrollwork over it. With a vignette in the middle with a pair of lions and a crown- very Royal looking. The standing lions hold a large heart-shaped red stone between them. Above and below are blue oval sapphires and on either side are rectangular emeralds. The corners each have an oval gem with smaller oval rubies on their inside corners. The inside is clearly gold on the bottom. The top is also metal. Copper in colour, and textured like a match strike. I found no identifying marks on the box. Condition is very good. Catalogue says also topaz. I received an email that reads: double lion in profile and a crown in the middle is a symbol. And has been for centuries,of Netherlands. I doubt the box is Russian. It would have been marked, besides the style does not look Russian. Another email reads: Hi Your box is very beautiful but it is not russian. Superb Antique French High Grade 950 Sterling Silver Gilt Rococo Decorated Snuff Box from Paris 1880 This Antique French Tobacco Snuff Box measures approximately 2 7/8 inches or 74 mm across its length from end to end by just over 2 inches or 52 mm across its width from the back the the front and it stands a fraction under 1 inch or 24 mm tall to the top of the raised finger catch on its lid. The snuff box is made from 59.1 grams of higher than sterling.950 standard solid silver that has been internally gilded or gold plated in a serpentine rectangular shape with rounded corners and the snuff box has a seven section piano hinged lid that has a raised shaped thumb or finger catch on its front edge. The sides of the body have been embossed or raised relief and engraved with a shell like decoration that runs all the way around the box and the ... morelid has also been wonderfully raised relief and engrave decorated with Rococo style shells, lattice and sea scrolls around a raised shell shaped central cartouche that has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below, the side rims of the lid have been impressed with the French silversmith or makers mark L C of Leon Canopville from Paris whose mark is recorded as being used from 1874 until 1894 along with the a French 950 standard higher than sterling silver head of Minerva mark that was used from 1838, I estimate that this snuff box was made circa 1880. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The snuff box has No Large Dents. No Holes, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the snuff box stands straight, the decoration and definition is very crisp, the lid opens with ease and closes fairly tightly, the internal gilding is still a good colour with only minimal wear, the French silver marks are still legible although as this snuff box is a used antique the makers mark is worn and it does have the odd small shallow dent in the side and base of its body along with some extremely minor surface marks and wear

Pill or Snuff Box measures approximately 2 inches or 52 mm across the length of its lid from side to side by 1 5/8 inches or 4 2 mm across the width of its lid from the hinge to the front and it stands 3/4 of an inch or 19 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from 800 standard solid silver in an oval shape that has been internally gilded or gold plated and it has a three section piano hinged lid that's overhanging the body slightly acting as a thumb or finger catch for ease of opening. The outer body has raised relief scrolled foliate band decorated sides and the lid has a delightful scene two cherubs of which one is holding a large dog in the foreground with a swagged curtain and rail in the ... morebackground and this is under a scrolled foliate and swagged floral decoration. The box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the underside of the body has been impressed with a German 800 standard solid silver mark that is along side what looks like the Hanau silversmith or makers marks of B. Antique 18th c. ? French ? Snuff Box Silver w Gilt Interior c. 1800
This is a very pretty snuff box. The marks are no longer legible. But I think they were once the French first coq mark 1798-1809. The style with clipped corners fits that time frame. The box has heavy patina, consistent with this age. It is very heavy and the engraving is very deep. It has a gilt interior. The marks are absolutely illegible so all I can guarantee it that it is very old. This is the perfect size for a pill box, if you have to take a few more pills than I do. The lid fits tightly. So if you are looking for a beautiful, quality, antique box, great. If you want marks, it is not for you. It measures 2 ¾” x 2” x 9/16” And weighs 3 troy ounces!

Here is a solid silver snuff box with gilt interior and hinged lid with raised decoration of a dancing couple. It is marked Silver. 2.4" x 1.3" and 0.6" high. It weighs 37.9g. Very good condition. This is a superb large silver snuff box made by the very fine and important silversmith James Creswick in 1847. This actual box is pictured in the book Silver Boxes by Delibes on page 58. The box is rectangular with shaped sides and curved canted corners. The lid of the box has a superb high relief chased scene of five men dringking ale/ beer and smoking pipes. It would appear that the men have probably drunk somewhat more than they should judging by the three pipes lying on the ground at their feet! The figures are chased against a finely textured background. The quality of the chasing- and indeed this box overall- is exceptional. The box is large and ... moreheavy. It is 3-1/2 inches/ 89 mm wide and 2-3/4 inches/ 70 mm deep. It stands 3/4 inches/ 19 mm high and weighs an impressive 172 grams. The underside of the box is engraved James Creswick. Cookes Moor, Sheffield and has clear hallmarks- lion passant, crown for Sheffield, letter D for 1847, duty mark and maker's mark TI over NC for James Creswick. This is a fabulous. Rare, antique, 1832, Nathaniel Mills, sterling silver and gilt, rectangular snuff/pill box, with engine turned engraved decoration. A truly stunning piece of Nathaniel Mills workmanship. Fully hallmarked NM for Nathaniel Mills, with lion passant, anchor assay stamp for Birmingham, and a gothic date letter J for 1832. A very crisp. Early 19th century, hallmarked solid silver& gilt snuff/pill box, made by Nathaniel Mills in Birmingham in 1832. It also features a beautiful original mercurial gilt interior. And vacant cartouche. Internally its stamped both top and bottom with the NM maker's mark for Nathaniel Mills. Mini Sterling Silver Repousse Thumb Sized Gilt Antique Snuff Box Solid Perfume After much research on the web I have found this is most often described as a pill/ trinket box. This originally came with solid state perfume(its a mini compact) This box measures 1" x 1" x.5" and still has some solid perfume inside. This is Sterling silver and while there are no marking on the outside. Some examples of this same box I have seen have the"925" stamp inside under the perfume. Its total weight is 18 grams.

Absolutely beautiful. Simply put gorgeous. This silver gilt snuff box was made by silversmith John Bettridge, 1828, Birmingham. The relief is a battle scene. Cast foliate borders. Engine turned sides and base. Gilt interior. The interior lid engraved with Edw Lloyd in a script, with a small case d above the line between the first and last name. Hallmark on lid and base, see photos. The box measures 3 1/4" long x 2 1/4" wide, it is 3/4" deep. The snuff box weighs 182.9g. A rare and fine antique snuff box in amazing condition. I read this comment regarding the design of this box"the battle scene is not easy to identify as the soldiers are dressed in Roman or Norman armor yet on has a shield emblazoned with three flyer de lys. Rouge, Snuff or Pill Box dated 1893 This Antique Box measures approximately 2 1/8 inches or 54 mm across the length of its lower body from end to end by 1 5/8 inches or 42 mm across the width of its body from the hinge to the front and it stands just over 1 inch or 27 mm tall to the top of the lid when closed. The box is made from sterling silver that has been internally gilded or gold plated in a rectangular shape and it has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid. The Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the stylized letter t is the assay office date letter for 1893 and the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The Box has No Large Dents. No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the definition and decoration is very crisp, the lid opens and closes with ease, the internal gilding is a good colour with only minimal wear, the silver hallmarks are still clearly legible although as the box is a used antique it does have the odd small shallow dent along with three small polishing wear holes within the raised decoration of its lid and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use. Antique Austrian Solid Silver Engrave Decorated Tobacco Snuff Box by J Wenzel of Vienna dated 1854 This Antique Austrian Tobacco Snuff Box measures approximately 2 3/4 inches or 69 mm across the length of its body from side to side by just over 1 5/8 inches or 43 mm across its width from the hinge to the front catch and it stands 5/8 of an inch or 16 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from solid silver in a rectangular shape that has been internally gilded or gold plated and it has a nine section piano hinge on the back of its lid that has a shaped thumb or finger catch across its front edge. Here we have for auction a stunningly beautiful Georgian silver snuff box. Offered from a low start price with no reserve! This is the work of the well regarded silversmith Matthew Linwood. Assayed in Birmingham c1810. His work is sought after and as you can see he was very talented. The snuff box is decorated with an engine turned design, with rococo borders and wonderful gilding work. Hallmarks are good and legible but there is no date letter present on this piece. There is no damage present and also desirably a vacant cartouche. so overall a very nice example. Georgian Cast Silver Gilt Snuff Box - Birmingham 1811
An exceptional cast Georgian silver gilt snuff box. Made in Birmingham 1811. The box has a cast top with a wonderful image of a shepard tending to his sheep. There is a musical instrument and jug next to him. The setting appears to be a field with the sun in the sky(including a face in the sun which is visible) The details and condition are outstanding. The sides and bottom are also cast with exceptional quality and condition(see pictures for pattern on sides and bottom) The makers mark is"T&T" for Thropp and Taylor(Jackson. Page 355) The marks for Birmingham. 1811 are very clear. The box is 7 cm in length by 4.5 cm wide. It weighs a respectable 3.74 ounces(106 grams) It comes in a leather clad box as well(the leather box may not be original) A very nice box in top condition. This is a fabulous. Rare, antique, 1834, Nathaniel Mills, sterling silver and gilt, rectangular snuff/pill box, with engine turned engraved decoration. A truly stunning piece of Nathaniel Mills workmanship. Fully hallmarked NM for Nathaniel Mills, with lion passant, anchor assay stamp for Birmingham, and a gothic date letter L for 1834. A very crisp. Early 19th century, hallmarked solid silver& gilt snuff/pill box, made by Nathaniel Mills in Birmingham in 1834. It also features a beautiful original mercurial gilt interior.
