England in 1820 by the illustrious silversmith, John Bettridge. It is in a gorgeous octagonal shape with stunning engraved decoration to the lid and base. It is gilded internally and is NOT engraved to the cartouche on the lid. It measures 1 7/8" long by 1 1/8" deep and stands almost 5/8" thick. It weighs 18.6 grams- well over 1/2 troy oz. The workmanship is excellent- the lid is still a good fit but with some spring. It is in very good condition- less than the usual surface scratching. NO dents, a few dings but with NO splits or repairs- see photographs- SUPERB. The internal gilding is in excellent condition also. It is hallmarked with IB, George III duty mark, anchor, lion passant(sterling silver assay mark) W showing that this snuff box was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1820. Antique German Solid Silver Gilt Trinket Pill or Snuff Box by M Mayer circa 1895
Superb Antique German Solid Silver Gilt Ladies Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box by Martin Mayer circa 1895 This Antique Trinket, Pill or Snuff Box measures approximately 1 7/8 inches or 48 mm across the length of its body from side to side by 1 1/2 inches or 39 mm across the width of its body from the hinge to the front catch and it stands 5/8 of an inch or 16 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from solid silver that has been internally gilded or gold plated in an oval shape and it has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid that has a shaped thumb or finger catch on the front edge for ease of opening. The outer body and lid have been superbly embossed or raised relief and engrave decorated with foliate swags. Flowers and bows, the front of the body along with the top of the lid each has an oval shaped cartouche ... morethat has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the side rim of the lid has been impressed with a couple of later French solid silver imported item marks all as photographed below. The underside of the base or body has been impressed with the makers pattern number 74 that is below the German half moon and crown 800 standard solid silver mark, this is along side the Mainz silversmith or maker mark of Martin Mayer who are recorded as being founded in 1888, I estimate that this antique trinket, pill or snuff box was made circa 1890- 1900. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The Box has No Large Dents. No Holes, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the decoration is fairly crisp, the hinge is working perfectly. The lid opens and closes tightly with ease, the internal gilding is a good colour with only minimal wear. The German silver and makers marks are still legible although as the box is a used antique it does have the odd very small shallow dent in the underside or base of its body that is hardly worth mentioning and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use. This is a delightful little silver snuff box which is hallmarked for London import. 1886/7. It is silver gilt on the inside to protect it from the corrosive effect of the snuff. The lid portrays puttii involved in various crafts, such as artist and sculptor, and the side is decorated with a floral design. There is some evidence of wear and a few minor dents which are commensurate with its age and having been used, but in my opinion, these are not disfiguring and indeed add to the character of this charming little snuff box. The approximate weight is 38 gms. A rare very unusual German(Hanau) 800 silver snuff box. It is hallmarked with pseudo marks along with two French insect import marks. Hence it has travelled from Germany to England via France during its lifetime. I would date it to c1890-1900. It has been beautifully made in the form of a guitar with hinged front and internal gilding. Please note this is an extremely rare example- I have seen violins very occasionally(there are usually one or two on ebay) but never a guitar. It is in super condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The inside is clean and the lid forms a good seal. There are no strings, it may or may not have had some originally. It measures 4 inches(10.2cms) by 1.25 inches(3.3cms) and weighs 30 grams. A beautifully designed rare and interesting piece. Stunning Antique Solid Sterling Silver Trinket Pill Snuff Box, Dutch Soldiers
This is a very rare and stunning snuff box. It's a great piece to add to any collection. For its age it is in very good condition. Was very dirty before I cleaned it. It's sterling silver. It does not have any marking but I have taken it to my jeweler and he tested as 90% silver. I have also taken it to my antique guy and his eyes lit up when he saw it. I was told by him that it's definitely from the late 1800's and made in Dutch and its not marked because it was so old. Measures almost 2" in diameter and about 3/4" high. There are some dints/dents on the snuff box. Which I have shown on the images, however there are no holes in the silver and I cannot see any signs of restoration. There is plenty of space if you wish to have this piece personalised if you so desire. The lid is hinged and the hinge is in good order and the snuff box shuts good and tight. Upon opening the snuff box/vesta it has been gilded inside. On the inside of the snuff box it has been clearly hallmarked and dated and reads as follows: The Anchor representing Birmingham. Antique French Solid Silver Minerva Head 1 Snuff Box 1850-1899 This is beautifully and profusely engraved with a Neo-Classical decoration featuring floral. Leafy and geometrical bands. Each side is Hallmarked. It is inscribed on the inside of the lid with the initials FF T or TTF it's bit hard to tell(see photographs) It has the French silver hallmark of Minerva Head 1 for the silver quality. And the makers mark is a crescent and star. It does have minor dents. Micro scratches from use and has a tiny split on the bottom, but is in one piece. The hinge and lid is in good working order. Superb George IV Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Snuff Box Made By Nathaniel Mills 1830 Description- Quality early Nathaniel Mills thick gauge solid silver snuff box with hinged lid. The lid has fine hand chased scroll leaf and floral decoration with matted background and with silver- gilt border, engine turned decoration and a gold central plaque. the box has a cast foliate thumb piece and foliate edges, with the sides and base having further engine turned decoration, the interior of the snuff box is silver- gilt(gold washed) The box is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay. The lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the Kings head, the date letter"G" for the year 1830 and the maker's mark"N.M" which is Nathanial Mills. Particularly large, the solid silver hinged lid is beautifully embossed with a scrolling foliate decoration and set with a large Quartz stone. The horn is applied with a silver shield engraved with initials. LARGE SOLID 800 SILVER PICTURE TOP TABLE SNUFF BOX DUTCH HANAU c1890 ANTIQUE
A stunning good sized very picture top silver snuff box. It is hallmarked with an 800 standard mark only. It tests as high grade silver. It would have been produced in either the Netherlands or Hanau Germny c1890. It has been beautifully designed having a cast lid depicting a highly detailed tavern scene and scroll and flower decorated sides. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The inside is clean and the lid forms a good tight seal. It is as mentioned a large example measuring a touch under 3.5 inches(8.7cms) by 2 and 3/8ths(6.1cms) by 0.5 inches(1.1cms) tall. It weighs a very respectable 87 grams. Exquisite Hallmarked Solid Silver Dutch Peppermint Or Lodderein Box Description- Very good Dutch octagonal scroll shaped solid silver peppermint or Lodderein box with a hinged lid which has a domed embossed pattern with a central scroll hand engrave cartouche. The box is beautifully decorated with engraved bands of varied patterns. There is an applied blank central cartouche, the base has the initals"L Z" etched. The box has a full set Dutch hallmarks which are stamped in various places.
