Rare Georgian Sterling Silver Oval Snuff Box Samuel Pemberton Birmingham 1799

This is a lovely oval snuff box made by the highly sought after silversmith. Samuel Pemberton in 1799. The snuff box has a flat oval hinged lid above curving sides and it stands on a flat base. The lid and the sides of the box have fine bright cut decoration and the base has chased lattice pattern. The lid has a hidden hinge to the back and the centre of the lid is engraved'E Hill' The inside of the box has it's original gilding. The box is 2-1/4 inches/ 57 mm wide and 1-1/2 inches/ 38 mm deep. It stands 3/4 inches/ 19 mm high and weighs 25 grams. The inside of the lid and the base have clear hallmarks- lion passant. Anchor for Birmingham, letter b for 1799, duty ... moremark and maker's mark SP for Samuel Pemberton. The box is in good condition. It has a small dent to the lid and some small dents around the body. Considering it is 214 years old. It is in very good condition. The Vinaigrette has a delightful curve to the body with the most wonderful brightcut engraved decoration to the top of lovely foliage that is surrounded by a dotted double border, to the centre you will see a shield shaped cartouche with the engraved name Joan to the centre, on the other side it has a wonderful brightcut engraved central cartouche with foliage in abundance again with a double dotted border, to the edging on the back you will also see a lovely dotted zig zag engraved border, the sides also have the same engraved zig zag engraved decoration, on opening this stunning little Georgian Vinaigrette you will ... moresee the pierced grill is a smooth design with original gilt finish, on lifting the grill you will see it still retains its original sponge making it all original and complete, the quality is superb, it also still retains its loop to the top, its a stunning little Vinaigrette crafted by Samuel Pemberton, its nearly 200 years old and to be in such lovely complete condition must have been cherished, it this is fully hallmarked The vinaigrette was used by both men and women at this time. Though by the 1820s it was almost exclusively a feminine accessory. Carried in a pocket or reticule, or suspended from a chatelaine at the waist, it was used to mask unsanitary odors and for direct inhalation of its restorative vapors. Since one never knew when emotion or tight lacing would overcome one. The vinaigrette needed to be near at hand and its aromatics quickly accessible. The hinged lid allowed it to be flipped open, like a snuff box, with the flick of a finger. This is a superb antique Georgian hallmarked sterling silver vinaigrette made by Samuel Pemberton and hallmarked for Birmingham in 1810. Inside is in very good condition and it weighs 10.8 grams. A vinaigrette is a small receptable which contains scented vinegar used by ladies to ward off faintness. ANTIQUE GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER NUTMEG GRATER - 1815 - SAMUEL PEMBERTON
This is a super quality antique George III sterling silver nutmeg grater of rectangular form with canted corners. The plain body decorated with bright cut engraved borders and clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1819 and with the maker’s mark for Samuel Pemberton. It is in superb original condition and measures 1 3/2” 4 cms) x 1 1/4” 3 cms) x 3/4” 2 cms) high and has a hinged lid which opens to reveal the original steel grater. The bottom also open on a hinge to allow access to the chamber where you would keep your nutmeg and also where you would access your ground nut. This is a beautiful nutmeg grater. Unusual to find one is such good, original condition with just a few minor marks. Antique English Georgian Silver Samuel Pemberton Scent Bottle Etui Case c 1789
Item: This auction is for a superb looking rare Silver Scent Bottle Etui Case. This item is plain polished to the top and base with ribbon. Dot, floral and shield pattern engravings to the sides. It has a vacant shield cartouche to one side and the letters‘E M’ engraved on the other side. The top opens via a hinge and push button mechanism. Maker’s Mark: This item was made by the famous maker of Samuel Pemberton(S P) which is marked on the base of the item. Hallmarks/ Marks: This item has a full set of Silver hallmarks to its base. Which date the case to 1789(date letter: upper case‘R’ It has the‘anchor’ mark for the Birmingham. The‘lion passant’ mark for sterling silver, the‘sovereigns head’ for the duty mark and‘SP’ for the maker, Samuel Pemberton. Weight/ Measurements: The case measures 46mm in length. A width of 30mm(at its widest measurement) ... moreand a tapering depth of 11mm to 12mm approximately. It weighs 10.6 grams approximately. Condition: This is a truly lovely example of a Silver Scent Bottle Etui Case in very good condition and in good. Working order. The hinges are all secure and the push button mechanism is still functioning very well. The silver has minor surface marks and scratches, which are most noticeable below the vacant cartouche and on the edges of the base. There are also minor marks around the edges of the top. The hallmarks do have some signs of wear but are still clearly legible.
