To hold small pieces of jewellery probably as the base is covered internally to protect what goes in from touching the metal. There is a makers mark. And a letter h in old font.abit like London 1863 h mark. but also a mans head stamp just above the hinge, so I believe this box is Dutch made and imported into England. It may have started life as a SNUFF BOX and later has had the blue velvet like material put inside. In feint engraving on the underside of the lid. Is the name A. H. Ruiter, 1867. This box measures approx 2 inches x 2 inches x 3/4 inch. In fair condition. Lots of wear, and dints, and the top engraving has worn through the lid creating splits. But I think, give it a quick clean, and place somewhere nice, it's still a nice little silver box. Please see close up pictures for more detail. On offer a superb large solid silver combined ring& jewellery box. Beautiful engine- turned hinged cover, chamfered corners, standing on four pad feet,velvet& silk lined interior, for jewellery with three ring slots, edged with cedar wood. Birmingham c1913 makers Sanders& Mackenzie. Excellent condition for age, just a couple of small dings, and slight light surface marks,thats all, nothing that detrcts in the slightest. Clear hallmarks The Anchor, The Lion, Date letter o, Makers mark S&M. 4 inches long, by 2.5 inches wide, stands 2 inches tall, weight 276 grams, not forgetting the cedar wood interior. VINTAGE 'MODERNIST' BARK EFFECT HM SOLID SILVER CIGARETTE BOX/JEWELLERY BOX-1968
A n unusually designed solid silver English hallmarked cigarette box that features a'bark' textured effect lid in the modernist style. Often used nowadays as jewellery boxes. I have added pictures from all angles including both sets of hallmarks. So please have a good look at them. Hallmarks on the base cons ist of the makers mark'SJR' for S J Rose& Son, the lion denoting sterling silver. The panthers h ead for London. And the date letter'n' for 1968. There are further hallmarks on the underside of the finger push. Comprising the lion and London mark. The box has a cedar wood interior with the original movea ble partition. The base is weighted and has a black leather or leather effect covering. It measures 15.7 cms by 10 cms by 3.9 cms. Weighs 353g(All approximate) As usual with these boxes. There are some minor ... moredings/dents here and there commensurate with age and handling. The surf ac e of the lid appears to be slightly higher in the middle and I'm not sure whether it was made that way. The textured finish holds some tarni sh in the cracks. But with a little effort and polish it can be remo ved. The surface of the base is very uneven but it is of no g reat concern. As it is not visible unless picked up and examined. The interior is in excellent con dition- all of the wood is intact and clean. The hinge works fine. And it opens and closes as it should. A very attractive and unusual vintage box that displays well. The full description is below the following photos This is a fantastic antique solid sterling silver cigarette/ jewellery box with hard wood interior and embossed coat of arms with elephants and motto(some wear) It is marked Peace 1919. Fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1919 with makers mark for the well regarded A&J Zimmerman. 4.4" x 3.4" and 1.7" high. It weighs 346g. Very good condition with just a small and very insignificant dink. I have not polished it. A highly sought after sterling silver box. I am listing a matching box. Please see photos for details. Please see description below these photos This is a fabulous antique Chinese solid silver jewellery/ ring box with embossed dragon and standing on three ball feet. It has a velvet interior and push on lid. It has Chinese silver marked and also marked 90 with makers mark for the well regarded Wang Hing. 3.3" diameter and 2.8" high. Gross weight is 170g and silver weight 79g. The silver is in very good condition. The velvet may have been replaced at some time and it shows signs of wear. A very attractive serpentine shaped jewellery or ring box on four cabriole legs. Stands well and does not wobble. There is a full hallmark on the front of the lower part of the box which is rubbed and very difficult to read. However one can make out the maker C something& Co. the Anchor being the town assay mark for Birmingham, Lion Passant showing the silver purity of 925/1,000 and finally the date letter which I cannot read. I am pleased to say that the front of the lid has two marks, the Lion Passant and a date letter being the small case'g' of 1906. This puts the box right in the middle of the Edwardian period In very good condition subject to normal surface wear, a few minor dints and the need of a clean! Hinge works well and lid closes snugly. Solid Silver Engine Turned Box - Harman Brothers 1975, Cigarette/Jewellery
A lovely high quality solid silver box with a teak interior. The box was probably intended for use as a cigarette box. the lovely teak interior has not been used.It has a dividing part which can be adjusted to three positions. It also has a velvet covered insert which i think may have been added later. The solid silver exterior is in an engine turned design with a finely worked edge to the lid. The box has stylish bracket type feet. The front as you can see has been engraved with a presentation message to a Lucas employee for 40 years service.I am sure this could be removed if required. It was made by Harman Bros. in Birmingham and has the hallmark for Birmingham 1975 on the side. Condition is very good, has most likely been stored and never used after presentation. Superb Continental Solid Silver Art Deco Round Jewellery Box, Finland 1955
A lovely silver lidded jewellery box. Set on 4 legs and in the late Art Deco style. Made in Finland with the Finnish crown and state mark, and 813H( silver mark) the town mark, which is Turku, and B7 which is the year date, 1955. Lovely condition, the silver is virtually unmarked with just a couple of tiny dings and a bit of very light surface scratching. The machine cut engraving on the lid is fabulous, and legs and knob are all in keeping in the Art Deco styling. The satin lining needs to be replaced because its a bit tatty. Otherwise a lovely box. Size 10cm x 6.5cm or 4in x 2.5in. The weight is 142.3gms or 5ozs.

Good quality jewellery box or casket but all of the inside has been taken out. The carcase is fully hallmarked for Birmingham in 1910. With makers mark HM which is Henry Matthews. The condition is in very good condition with just a few small dings, the hinge is good, and it closes without a gap. Size is 5ins long, 3.5ins wide and 2ins high or 12.75cms x 9cms x 5cms. The weight is 5.05ozs or 143.4gms.

DESCRIPTION: A solid ebony wood jewellery box with its original olive velvet lining and sterling silver embellishment to the lid. The silver has a vacant cartouche surrounded with decorative engravings and is hallmarked London 1920. The box measures 6.5 inches at widest. 3.5 inches deep and 2 inches tall, it is stamped'REAL EBONY' to the base. This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s. When the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since. CONDITION: The silver embellishment has a few dents but is otherwise in perfect condition with no scratches or missing fixing pins. A super engine turned design leading from the Art Deco into the vintage modernist period. It was probably a very posh cigarette box originally. Although it was used as a gents jewellery and trinket box for some years. The box fits nicely into both vintage art deco and vintage modernist categories. This is a super Hallmarked Silver Jewellery or Cufflink Box. It would make a great gift for your Dad. The box is decorated on the top with tram line engraving and has a central cartouche engraved D.A.D. The interior is very smart and still lined with the original black cotton velvet. Fully Hallmarked for Birmingham 1925. The makers mark is'P.J.F. for Percy James Finch. The box measures approx. 9.5 cm in length. 5.5 cm deep and 2.5 cm deep. It weighs a good 140g. LOVELY GEORGIAN SOLID SILVER CAN SHAPE TANKARD-CUP Stephen Adams II.London 1803 This is a lovely Art Deco Solid Silver Cigarette/Jewellery Box crafted by the Edwardian Silversmiths Dingley Brothers in Birmingham 1920 making it 95 years old. This beautiful Solid Silver Cigarette/Jewellery Box box is complete with its cedar wood lined interior and with a hinged silver lid and is decorated with attractive engine-turned engraving, to the centre on the top is a circular cartouche with the engraved initial R in fancy scroll, the sides have a lovely smooth finish and the base has a lovely blue leather effect covering to protect the top it would sit upon, this today would make a stunning Jewellery Box this has been crafted with a good gauge of silver weighing 170.8 grams, this shows the normal signs of wear with little bruising to the side with some ... moresmall dings on the side of the top, there is a little gap when closed, that being said it doesnt detract at all from its beauty, this just adds to its history, just mentioned for accuracy. Antique Solid Silver Trinket / Jewellery Box maker Birmingham F&S Use Or Scrap
Antique solid silver trinket/ Jewellery box. Hallmarked Birmingham and the letter mark looks like 1912/1913, which would make it Art Nouveau period. The maker's mark says F&S. The box has a hinged lid with the initial H in the centre with a design of some sort in the middle of the letter. There is a pattern embossed all around the lid, and the box is on four cabriole legs, all of this design makes it look very decorative and like a small item of furniture in miniature. The hinge on the lid is still good and it closes flat. But the lid has some small dents, which could possibly be smoothed out. Underneath there is a base that is not silver and is slightly weighted and this has some extensive wear. There is also some wear to the lining around the edges to the material inside the lid, in front, please see photographs. The sides and legs ... moreof the box are in good condition. The box weighs 183.9 grams including weighted base and measures 9.9 cm width and 7.6 cm length. Depth of box 2.4 cm. Depth( height) with legs 4 cm.
