A superb and very interesting antique sterling silver mounted travelling inkwell for the collector with a more unusually designed mount. Being of earlier manufacture than most, and with a very nice period glass body with deep star cut base. Hallmarked on the side rim of the mount and on the hinged cover with the lion passant for the sterling standard guarantee, the London date letter'R' for year 1812 and the head of King George III as duty mark. Maker's mark: TW. Excellent antique condition. No dents, splits or repairs, and no chips to the glass, only usual scratches consistent with age and use. Please note some degree of perishing to the cork or rubber lining of the cap but even after 200 years it has remained water tight! This travelling case is made of coromandel wood. Which was and still is rare and expensive and would only have been used on very high quality items. The spectacular coromandel case is outlined with brass stringing. Has a vacant shield shaped cartouche and banner ready for your own engraving. The interior is well fitted with ten silver topped jars, bottles and wells. There are also a mother of pearl mounted penknife, a button hook and two other implements. A very heavy Travelling Silver Toiletry box with a gilt interior made in London in 1875. It weighs 192grams and is decorated with foliate engraving to the top and bottom, It measures 15cm. long by 8cms. wide by 4cms. deep. It would have been used for Ladies Toiletries such as soap and clothes when travelling. The Inkwell is in excellent all original condition with a quality spring hinge for the lid and the innder lid is also designed to spring open and I believe if the Cork is soaked it will expand some and the inner lid will spring open as well. The Bottle shows no chips, cracks or repairs and the Sterling is also in excellent condition with no problems. The Inkwell is a great size for display in a collection or for actual use travelling if you so choose, measuring 1-3/4" tall by 2" wide with a quality weight of 77 grams, not including the Bottle. Antique Sterling Silver Box Travelling Hair Curling Tongs Heater 1899
Item: A quality Victorian sterling silver cased and embossed travelling hinge lidded box for heating hair curling tongs. It has English hallmarks for Birmingham 1899. Maker A& JZ(AJ Zimmerman, Birmingham) Shallow monogram AEG which could be removed. The interior is brass gilt and has two hinged lift up stands to rest the tongs and a spirit heater with two wicks for heating them. Access to the wicks is via the screw top cap. Box measures 3.5 by 2 inches and is 1.5 inches deep. Opened fully it measures 7 by 2 inches. Condition: Everything works correctly and is in complete condition. Silver is in very good condition without dings or repair. The gilt interior has kept very well apart from some superficial scratches from age. The wicks appear not to have been used. A rare William IV sterling silver travelling inkwell top. It is hallmarked for London 1834 with the makers marks being AD for Archibald Douglas. It has been beautifully made and engraved with the letters FL. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs.
