Beautiful and Rare Antique Iraqi Solid Silver and Niello Compact Ladies Case. Very skillfully made near Amarah. Southern Iraq c1930 by skilled Mandean silversmiths. Skillfully hand raised into an elliptical shape. It features fine quality intricate nielloed work. The lid features Date Palms on the banks of the Euphrates river with a sailing boat behind and a Grand Mosque on the far shore. The back depicts the ancient Persian Achaemenid ruins at Ctesiphon. It's quite a large and impressive compact. Tactile and beautifully proportioned with a diameter of 76mm and a very heavy weight of 93g or 3.3oz. It's in very good condition with a few fairly minor dents but retaining all origin interior and mirror and it closes properly and securely.
