circa 1860-1870 Antique Renaissance Armchairs Crafted circa 1880. This stunning pair of renaissance arm chairs are beyond words. Authentic to it's period style these chairs feature wide seats with simple yet elegant upholstery. This sophisticated pair of chairs were carved in a solid mahogany wood with attention focused on the armrests which are uniquely wide and beautifully carved at the ends. The wood has been wonderfully preserved over the years. We did not add any stain to these chairs in order to keep them as original as possible. This chair has no cloudiness in the stain(from being over stain through out the years) and we used a minimal amount of polish to restore it's shine. These chairs are both incredibly solid and study. Minor scuffs are present on the chair legs. UNDERSTANDING ANTIQUES Our items are all antiques. They have ... morebeen around for a very long time and loved by just as many people. 19C Savonarola Hand Carved Lion Renaissance Folding Chair
This19th Century version of the Renaissance Savonarola chair is in wonderful condition. I display it in my living room. And invite guests to sit in it during their visit. It is true to the original design(attributed to 15th Century Florentine friar Girolamo Savonarola) And you can removing the back splat and fold the chair up easily. I bought this Savonarola chair from an antiques dealer. Who said that it is a Civil War-era chair. These were packed away until the army made camp. When the general or other high ranking officer would sit in it to relax. Dine and discussed battle strategy. Some of the gilding is still visible on the lion head arms. And the dolphins, acanthus leaves and fleur-de-lis carvings that decorate the back. The chair has the normal wear associated with its age. There are a few small checks to one of the carved lion heads ... morethat terminate the arms. The next to back leg rung on the left side(the side shown in the next to last photo) has a break all the way through it. Approximately six inches from the top, although it is not readily visible. No repairs have been attempted, and the chair has not been cleaned. I presume that this is oak. But I am not certain. 19C Savonarola Hand Carved Lion Renaissance Folding Table & Chair Set
I don't know a lot about this set. However, I have done my homework and can probably answer most questions. Most I have found date back to the 18 and early 1900's possible 19th century Italian, but have also been told that it may have been used in the Civil war era for the high ranking officers to use when dining and discussing battler strategies. I can find a few here and there for sale in individual pieces, however this is the only FULL set I have located. They are made from Mahogany although many call the wood"Iron wood" due to its strength and durability. They are hand carved and unique in a fashion that you simply remove the top part and they can fold like scissors and have commonly been referred to as"scissor chairs" The table also folds in much the same way by sliding the glass out. They have Lions heads ... moreon both arms and lions feet as well. these really are in excellent condition from what I can tell, but again, I am not an antique dealer, but I do spend a lot of time at auctions and have some basic understanding of things. Simply put, don't play me for stupid it won't work I know how rare this full set is. The chair has the normal wear associated with its age. One chair measures approximately 37 1/2" tall x 29" wide x 23" deep with a seat height of 17" Free pickup is offered. Otherwise. Contact seller for shipping charges. Listed shipping charge not be accurate as these are not light pieces and all shipping would have to be done by a custom shipper to protect them. Here is a really great set of 19th century heavily carved solid oak chairs with original cane seats and pegged construction. The barley twists are fantastic and there is a lot of it.along the backs of the chairs as well as the front and rear legs and stretchers. The carved crowns of each chair is a little different and they all have the same design of bellflowers. Shells, C-scrolls, foliage and other floral touches. This is all carved thick oak and is shown from the front and the back. The seat edges are all very interesting carved. Almost a gadrooned look, to the side and front edges of each chair. Height to the top = 40 3/8" Height to top of seat = 18 1/2" Width at widest = 18 1/4" Depth at deepest = 15" I do have other photos if there is something that I didn't show that you would like to see. French Renaissance Arm Chairs. Believed to be made between 1880- 1900's. These carved oak chairs are in good shape, especially the wood. The fabric is slightly faded and they could possibly be reupholstered. On one chair the armrest pads are rather flat. The seat of the other chair has three slight dark spots(see photos) We have not tried to clean these chairs and leave that for the new owner. The rest of the fabric is in good condition. These chairs typically list for more than $2,000 apiece. Buyer to pick up or will cooperate to arrange shipping at buyer’s expense. This lovely 19th century chair features a beautiful carved cluster of grapes and leaves at the center of the tall button& tufted back. This is a well padded. Rather comfortable chair that boasts of a green damask fabric with a button and tufted back and arms with a generous seat, curvaceous carved arm supports and a serpentine seat rail.This grand 19th century chair is solid and tight with no breaks or issues noted.I would say in excellent antique condition.
