I know it's original and dates back to the mid 1800's. It came from an old estate home in Warren, Massachusetts which did include many imported pieces, so it could be imported or American made. The chair has some nice detailing such as the cane woven seat in a unique shape, the side rails on the back of the seat, the front stretchers and back"spindles" which are beautifully turned, and the one-piece(not applied) carved design in the top/front of the chair back. Also the arch or bend to the chair frame when viewed from the side. I have been told all these are nice features adding to the value of the chair.
