This massive solid oak original finish with even the original needlepoint upholstery (that should be replaced) platform rocking chair made and designed ... moreby George Hunzinger. This chair dates from the 1880s to 1890s. We deal a lot in Hunzinger type rockers and furniture, but this one is unusual in size and features a unique needlepoint work. The fabric is usable, but it needs to be cleaned as it is dirty. Look at the size of the spindles on the solid oak chair. It is an oversized chair. It is heavy duty. It has the patented recognizable Hunzinger spring mechanism. They often have the paper label underneath, but I am sure this one is gone. This chair is all tight, sturdy and is in tiger sawn oak. 1850s Child's "Spool" rocking chair Hunzinger's style hard to find rare
Rare! Very old! Child's antique rocking chair! This is a"spool" type rocker with the wood formed into shapes like spools that hold thread. The original carpet type"tapestry" back is intact. Although the matching carpet seat is entirely missing. A pillow is shown in the picture. This chair appears to be in the style of some of George Hunzinger's work but no signature or authentication has been found. The pictures show a front view of the chair with a pillow in the seat and a view of the chair without the pillow. The carpet back-rest is shown. The front of the carpet is somewhat worn but the back side of it is in very good condition. The wood itself is in good condition. The chair measures about 29 inches high, 14 inches across the back. The arms are 16 1/2 inches long. The rockers are 24 inches long. This chair was ... moremade for a small child, apparently in the 1850's. It was purchased in Illinois for a child who was born in 1853 so the chair was probably purchased between 1853 and 1856. The original owner of this chair was a girl who attended the Lincoln-Douglas debates as a child. The chair was purchased-in Illinois-where the family lived at that time, and it has been in the same family since it was purchased. The wood is well preserved and the original nails or tacks are still in place, although there have been replacements of the nails on the arms of the chair, probably in the 1930's. The chair was appraised at over $3,000 in Santa Fe many years ago-even with the chair's seat missing. Sold as is. Buyer to pick up item at location. No Reserve. $2,999.00

Hunzinger Chair Victorian Side Chair Antique Vintage 19th Century Aesthetic
Fig. 92. George Hunzinger U.S. Patent 176.314"Improvement in Chair Seats and Backs. April 18. 1876. New Technologies: Woven Wire and Interchangeability of Parts In 1876 Hunzinger secured his sixth patent for an ingenious alternative to traditionally upholstered chairs(fig. 92) The invention consisted of weaving a flat wire covered with a continuous woven textile into a regularized pattern by placing the wire into grooved channels on the seat and back frame and around oval-headed nails on the inner frame. The seat or back is composed of only two wires. One in each direction. Hunzinger announced: The chair seat or back is made with reference to the use of wire in place of cane, to form an openwork seat, and to insure great strength and beauty, and to facilitate the interweaving of the wires. The patent drawing, however, shows that this ... moreinvention was not immediately associated with a specific chair design as the earlier patents were. As in the case of the1869 diagonal brace patent, this invention was incorporated in a wide variety of chairs as well as on a unique settee and daybed. At first, in fact, the 1876 patent was often employed in conjunction with the 1869 brace. The first chairs to exhibit the 1876 wire seat and back frame also included the 1869 patent diagonal brace. Kimball's catalogue. Which is generally dated about 1876, illustrates several of these chairs(figs. 98 and 99) The price code tells us that the"Dining or Library" armchairs were available in walnut"with any color, braided wire seat and back" at a wholesale cost of $10.67 each. The chairs have mostly square members with incised decoration and carved crests in the Modern Gothic/Eastlake style and the square stretcher system supporting the front seat observed on the other chairs with the 1869 brace. These chairs too seem to have the potential to fold, but do not. Many variations on these chairs seem to have been made. The same model would be available as a side chair or put on runners to become a rocker. The des

Fabulous Antique Walnut Hunzinger Chair Signed and Patent Date UNUSUAL Design
There is interesting History of Hunzinger furniture makers…This chair has the Hunzinger signed mark along with 2 Patents…a N.Y. Patent and another Patent of April 18. 1876… The metal meshing for the seat needs repairing but surprisingly you can sit in it fine due to the strength of the metal mesh. A good metalsmith could probably repair easily if desired. Here are the measurements: 34" high. Seat is 16 X 16. 21" from front bottom leg to back leg. 18" at the widest front width. 18" from back of the seat to top of back rest. This chair is in good shape for it's age…a few knicks and a crack at the back right underneath the metal webbing…a great conversation piece to say the least. The Walnut is beautiful.the design amazing! I am going to guess it would probably cost $100 to ship by UPS or Fedex…if it is under that I will ... morerefund the difference.

We are pleased to be offering today one of the more unusual Hunzinger rockers that old George Hunzinger had made and designed back in the ... morelate 1800s. Hunzinger was a furniture designer from Germany. Who imported to the USA back around the Victorian boom and came out with a really nice line of furniture. He patented this hinge mechanism that is underneath this rocker to make his rockers most unique. At the time he had the only spring mechanism like this, which is easily identified. There is usually a paper label underneath the bottom platform, but they get lost over the years. This particular rocker dates from the 1880s. This one came in and the finish was worn and the seat was all ripped up. All we had to do was strip it, glue it, sand it, stain it, spray it, upholster it and sell it. Those are the steps we do here to provide you this beautiful furniture. This gorgeous chair was most likely maple or birch, but we stained it this stunning dark reddish brown mahogany color, which is what the factory would have done back in the day. The overall size across the first two balls on the arm is 23 inches wide, 20 inches deep on the seat, approximately 33 inches high to the top, 21 inches high to the front ball on the arm and the seat is 15 inches high. The boys did put a pad on the seat to make it more

Antique George Hunzinger Adjustable Arm Chair Folding Recliner 1800's Sling
Great antique Victorian tufted velvet George Hunzinger folding reclining chair stamped"Hunzinger PAT 1888" The upholstery looks as if it has been replaced at some point but is in pretty good shape. I counted 3 small blemishes in the upholstery(just email me for pics of these.all are minor) There are scuff marks on the wood on the legs as you'd expect on a piece this age. At the top of the chair there is a wood rod that the upholstery wraps around& at each end there was a small brass( cap which is missing on one side. To adjust the chair there are slots under the arms which lock in place with an attached wood rod with basically 1/2 ball on the end. On one side it looks like the ball part got broken& someone glued the 3 or 4 pieces back together& one piece is missing(see pic#8) The chair still functions as it should ... morebut it does have this small repair that needs pointed out. This chair measures about 52" long. When folded. It measures about 42" long x 36" x 26" If you are unfamiliar with George Hunzinger a quick search of his name will reveal quite a bit of useful information. Many of his designs were mechanical in nature as this one is. Please email me if you have any questions. I took lots of photos but could only put 12 in the ad. Rare George Hunzinger Victorian Folding Chair
Rare Reclining Folding Chair" This is a very rare signed George Hunzinger victorian reclining and folding chair. I believe this has the original fabric and does have one repair that I show on the back of the chair. Someone used a metal bracket. Hunzinger patented many designs and these chairs sell sometimes for four figures. I show a number of pictures for your inspection. He is the only one with a patent on this particular platform spring mechanism, which easily identifies a Hunzinger rocker with duplex spring. G HUNZINGER NY STAMPED BOTTOM 1876 ROCKER ROCKING CHAIR RENAISSANCE REVIVAL NY
This is a George Hunzinger rocker. I have loved for a long time. Renaissance Revival meets Arts& Crafts, before it's time, still looks modern today. Great lines! Chair is in great shape with the EXCEPTION of a black mark on yellow upholstery back, that apparently happened on its last stint in storage. Otherwise it is in great shape. Hunzinger was a furniture maker during the later half of the 19th century. He emigrated to the United States in 1855 and began manufacturing furniture in New York City. Like his contemporary furniture makers of the Victorian Age. Hunzinger's pieces are very decorative. What is unique about his furniture is the innovative and distinctive designs over 20 which he patented. This chair will ship cheapest safest way. Which will be with either Craters and Freighters or UShip. Please let me know if I can ... moreprovide a more exact quote prior to purchase. Questions, just ask!
ANTIQUE VTG HUNZINGER EASTLAKE FOLDING ROCKING CHAIR TAPESTRY CHILDS ROCKER -bn
I'm selling this lovely antique chair for a friend. She's owned it about 50 years and it was old when she bought it. I do not see any markings. This is a very nice little folding rocking chair- which is in very excellent antique condition! Probably from the late 1800's. No makers marks that I see. I'm no expert on these. It does have square nails. The expected patina for a chair this old, some signs of use/wear, probably has been recovered but it must have been professionally done. Fabric is a little faded but not stained or torn. It folds very welll- no problems! No cracks, no repairs- no issues that I see. See photos. Nice find! About 24" at the tallest- static(not rocking) seat is 15" w x 12" and approx. seat height is about 11.5" at the front the seat itself is about 16" wide. All items sold as ... moreis. Used items. George Jakob Hunzinger(1835-1898) George grew up in Tuttlingen in the province of Württemberg. Germany in 1835, his family had been in the cabinetmaking business since the 17th century. Hunzinger, with his training in Cabinet making complete emigrated to New York at the age of 20 in 1855. He was just one of many highly trained German cabinetmakers, ... moreincluding the Herter Brothers Sometimes mentioned as George"Jacob" Hunzinger, his middle name is accurately depicted as"Jakob" as is evidenced by his marriage certificate. Hunzinger is famous for his innovative patented furniture in the Renaissance Revival style. Although his work belongs in this category. His work is so unique it stands alone as a category unto itself. Hunzinger and his heirs amassed a collection of 20 patents through 1899. The first of which was for an improved reclining chair in 1861. It was manufactured under the name of C. Henry Glinsman, possibly Hunzinger's employer at the time. Before setting out on his own, Hunzinger also worked for Auguste Pottier of Herter, Pottier& Company and Pottier and Stymus fame. Trademark elements of Hunzinger pieces are a unique front diagonal brace. Conical terminations, decorative balls, carved and incised circular medalions, metal banding for seats and seat backs and the famous lollipop designs. Antique Hunzinger lollipop platform rocker dated from late 1800's
Beautiful Hunzinger platform rocker. It looks like a mixture of woods mainly cherry. Mahogany, or walnut. Upholstered by Mario"s in Milw Wi. about 25 years ago. Mario"s did work for the Milwaukee Museum. He left in the horse hair stuffing and used the best Mohair from Germany. The color of the upholstery is a reddish orange but not gaudy. The chair has rarely been used since we had it reupholstered and was just used for display in our home. It was refinished with three step general finishes before being reupholstered. Very good condition considering its age. We are about 1 1/2 hours northeast of Minneapolis Mn. We will deliver within 150 miles of Hayward Wi. Other than that it will be pickup only. It still has the original label on the bottom. Although difficult to read. I believe the date is 1882

Signed Hunzinger Walnut Chair, 1869 Patent Date, Great Shape, Recent Upholstery
You're looking at a classic Renaissance Revival walnut chair made by George Hunzinger sometime around 1869. Hunzinger is well known for his many furniture patents. Which are often stamped on various places on the furniture his firm produced. This chair is one of those stamped pieces, and I've included a picture of the stamp(Hunzinger Pat. 1869 New York, NY) The wood has minor imperfections, typical of a ~145 year old piece of furniture, but the finish is in great shape. There's some haziness on the back of the chair, likely from sun exposure. The carvings are crisp and clear. There's some nice patina in the recesses of the carvings, and near the joints. The fabric was replaced by the previous owner- it's tan with small pink flowers. I believe it shows up in the pictures, but if you want a close up, email and I'll add ... moreone. I always thought the fabric was tasteful, however; you could certainly have it reupholstered if it isn't to your liking. I've included lots of detailed pictures so that you know exactly what you're getting. The chair is being listed as local pickup only. But I will gladly work with any shipping company of your choosing( provided they pick it up) Or you may pick the piece up yourself. I've had very good luck posting larger items on Uship, and recently had a client use someone on Uship to transport a seven piece bedroom set. They were very happy with the service. Antique 1866 GEORGE HUNZINGER Campaign Chair--Adjustable Arm Recliner, Foldable
This is a unique chair. Dating back to the year after the Civil War. It was created by George Hunzinger and has a patent mark of"Hunzinger NY. PAT Feb. 6. 1866" on the wood behind the right arm. The left arm bears the stamped number"4946. I'm told it's called a"campaign chair. It has three different positions. Which are adjusted by lifting the arms and and allowing an attached rod to fall into the groves of the arms. On the right arm. It appears that the rod was replaced(photo 11) On that same arm one can see where wood was glued underneath(photo 12) At the same time. The round part that holds the pin must have been repaired(photo 10) All three repairs were done fairly well. And can't be seen unless someone looks under the arm. Also of note is the wear on the back wood of the left arm. It appears the chair ... moremust have been positioned where it was repeatedly rubbed. With those things said. It is still quite sound, with all the turned walnut pieces still solid. The gold velveteen upholstery must have replaced the original upholstery sometime along the way. But I did notice a photo of another Hunzinger chair with surprisingly similar material. The upper part of this chair measures 17" across the upholstery and 29" long. The seat is 19" across at the widest part by 21" long. From wooden spindle to wooden spindle. It measures 24" across(where one's knees would bend) It can fold up into a box about 30 x 30 x 48(this allows a little extra room) We are willing to package and ship this chair. For some reason. EBay is not allowing the calculated shipping options to appear. Fed Ex can ship a package of these dimensions and weight. If you need help figuring out what shipping would cost, please email me. And I can figure it out on the Fed Ex site. Of course, local pickup is free.
