I fell in love with them on the first sight. They have slightly curved legs, High framed center panel rests, featuring an awesome Empire parcel gilt carved flower scroll center cartouche. It was gilt over red base, just phenomenal. Please take your time going over photos, look closely at the quality and detail of construction, closeups of the grain of wood and elegance of this pair. A Pair of Classic American Empire Chairs
American Empire Chairs circa 1850. The measurements are as follows 33 ¼" High to top of chair. 18" to top of seat, 17" depth of seat, 17" The wood grain is mahogany- Probably burning bush grain or sometimes called flame mahongany. The wood is beautiful. It sounds like the seats are the original horse hair with a a thin overlay of foam. Seat material is an off white raw silk pattern- probably linen. The fabric is in such great shape they must have recovered the seats without disturbing the integrity of the original seat material. They are very comfortable as a bonus! These pre-Civil War era, these chairs might have been refinished a long, long time ago but the patina is rich. If there are any dings or nicks- the character marks only enchance the chairs. Offered here are the remaining 5 chairs from a large set of antique American Empire dining chairs. The chairs retain their original Roman numeral markings on the front inside of the seat support. This was a large and elegant set of chairs. Made, possibly in New York state, ca. 1830- 1850. These chairs are strong, sturdy and are ready to use. They measure 32" high. The seats are 18" high. Each seat measures 14" deep by 18" wide across the front. Each slip seat has been upholstered with needlepoint, which I would guess to be from the 1950s. The needlepoint background is a medium mocha or beige color, while the floral center motifs are each a different, but coordinating pattern of flowers. These seats are in very good antique condition showing no stains or rips. Antique Chairs Early 1800's Federal Empire Wood Saddle Seat Pair Rare Sturdy
Charming pair of early American chairs. Original finish. One chair is perfect. One has some very old damage to the front slat below the seat. They are untouched, and very solid and sturdy. The damage can be repaired or left as is. It doesn't really matter structurally. According to Biddinton's Patent Service website, furniture patents started in 1836. These chairs both have 340 on the bottom. Patent numbers for 1837 range from 110-545. They are very dark, perhaps mahogany. The seat looks like chestnut. But this is first set of six I have had since last summer. We have brought them in the shop. Hand stripped them, re-glued, sanded, repaired anything that needed repair, stained them a rich luxurious mahogany color just like the factory and applied multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. It is amazing how they matched up the flame mahogany back in those days when they had none of the tools that we do nowadays. These chairs have a balloon back, cut out fancy splat, curved and flame mahogany, saber style front leg, a flared back leg that follows up into the contours of the back and a rolled skirt that is all mahogany. We have reupholstered the seats in a period style fabric and if you want to change them it is very easy. We have done all the work and all you will have to do is slide your fabric right on top of ours and staple it right in. The chairs are outstanding. There is one chair that I can see a line on the back, which is normal for the age. Antique Pair Walnut Empire Sabre Leg Chairs W/Carved Crest Needlepoint Seat
We are pleased to offer to the market this beautiful pair of antique chairs. These chairs date to the mid 1800's and are in amazing condition for the age. These are from a prominent Concord. MA estate that was one of the founding families of the town. These chairs are mahogany and flame mahogany with a finish on them that is similar to a French polish finish. They have a sabre leg and a bowed skirt. They have a carved scroll and leaf crest with a circular center medallion. The slip seats have a beautiful needlepoint design with what looks to me like two squirrels playing cards. The chairs measure as follows: Back height = 34" Seat height = 17" Seat width =16.5" Seat depth = 16" Both of the chairs have had various repairs over the years. The decorative carvings on the two back splats enhance the lively play or movement within the wood. Offered here is a striking pair of antique upholstered chairs. These chairs show a strong Empire influence. They each have well executed carving on the crest rail. Arms and legs. Please observe photos. These chairs are currently upholstered in very clean canary yellow upholstery, which is in very good antique condition and show no rips, tears, stains or odors. The wood frames are in very good condition, and very sturdy. I believe they retain their original finish, so there are signs of age, but no breaks or gouges, just light wearing down of the finish and light scratches around the bottoms of the legs. The only negative issues I see is a bit of hazing on the back of one chair. And a small piece of the front seat rail moulding missing on another chair. The finish on these chairs is old, smooth and clear. The chairs are sturdy and the needlepoint on the slip seats is immaculate, showing no wool loss or stains. Victorian balloon back chairs from the 18 sixty's or early 1870s era these are walnuts and in extremely good condition they do have old finish. These are upholstered in greenish cut velvet I also have a set that is in a blue velvet material that matches these both are being sold in sets of 2. The last photo shows them with one of the blue chairs for sale so you can see they match perfectly. Both chairs have no breaks and are extremely tight with no visible repairs. They do have some scuffing and wear to the finish as you can see in the photos. Late 19th Century. Height 31inches. Depth 17inches. Length 17inches Extra Notes A good quality. Pretty pair of chairs which were probably part of a salon suite originally. Bought at an estate sale. Fabric is original and needs to be reupholstered. I was going to do it but don't have the time. Seats will need to be screwed on(easy fix!
