Incredible Victorian Gothic "North Wind" Chair with Carved Face all original!
Offered here is a unique and rare mid to late 19th century. Hand carved, North Wind" arm chair. The face, from folklore, was supposed to cast(literally, blow) evil spirits away. The piece is all original. The leather seat has a large tear in it revealing the original straw stuffing and there is a small tear in the backing leather as well as a repaired spot on one of the back legs. This chair needs to be restored and certainly has a tremendous amount of potential! I'm not sure what type of wood this is. It is extraordinarily heavy! Local pick up OR delivery within 75 miles is. Up for bid is a set of beautiful antique his and hers heavy dark wood Victorian/gothic chairs. The wood has been wonderfully carved into male and female figurines at the top of the chairs and ornate Victorian designs throughout the rest of the wood. The female chair has a soft cushion backing depicting a queen in needlepoint style and the male chair has a king. Both chairs have red velvet has the seat cushion. The male chair is 53.5" tall and 23" wide. The female chair is 51" tall and 22" wide. The chairs do have some minor cosmetic flaws that include a couple small missing trim pieces of the side of the chairs which would be easy to replace. Some minor scuffing, and a some wood chipping on the back feet of the female chair. This amazing arm chair comes from mysterious origins. I believe it is from a lodge or a church. But there is a fleur-de Lys carved into the peak design. We have owned it for32 years and have always called it"the Throne Chair"and that it is! The upholstery is in perfect condition. Of a textured off-white sturdy fabric. But, at the same time, very elegant and goes with everything. The wood is walnut and walnut burl. Surprisingly, it is quite comfortable. 1800s Gothic Vintage Antique Wooden Chair w/ Leather Seat
This very unique and Gothic style antique chair was found hidden all the way in the back of my floorless attic amongst many other strange and old treasures. Wish I could say more about it's history. But unfortunately the only thing I know is that this chair is pretty mysterious. It's a beautiful piece overall, and in bright lights, a gold-ish color shines in the brown wood. I've never seen wood like this. Definitely a beautiful piece to own. The chair stands 35.5" tall, 15" wide, and 14" long.

This is a 19th C. Gothic or Jacobean Revival English Armchair in Oak. Exquisite hand-carvings of gargoyles. Green men, dragons, coats of arms, and flora. This is the finest chair of this type I have seen. The chair is large and heavy. But not unreasonable. It is 52"H, 26"W, ~29"D, with an ~22.5" seat height. The chair is sturdy and strong. The upholstery is in very good condition for its age, but there are a few small stains and the trim is loose in places. There is a 1/8" gap in the joint between front and left lower stretchers, but I do not believe it needs attention. Lastly, there is a small 1/4" chip on the backside of the lower cross rail. Please see the pictures. Overall, this chair is in fantastic condition for its age. There are signs of use on the arms and lower front stretcher, but I believe this chair ... morehas been unused for most of its life. I acquired it in a dusty condition from an estate with a very large collection. Even though the dust looked good, I lightly cleaned and waxed the woodwork. I did not attempt to clean the upholstery. I love this chair and have had it for a few years. My wife calls this my kings chair. It is georgeous and heavy. Solid oak(i believe) possible tiger oak handmade and handcarved from the 1800's i believe the-king james III period-1820's-very gothic in nature-heavy-this chair could last 3 more lifetimes original had red velvet that was in poor shape. I had it redone in leather w/ brass nail heads and looks great-inside filled w/ original horse hair and straw not only does the chair look great. I gave up as it became futile. What I can tell you about the chairs. The chairs are solid wood& hand carved. I am unsure of the wood. The chairs appear to be from around the mid to late 1800's. During this time period generally mahogany was used. But I cannot verify the wood. The black material appears to be leather. Dating of the chair came from the springs- thick/heavy. I do not know if the leather is the original material. The style of the chair leads me to believe it came from Europe. These are generally what is called a throne chair. The story goes that they were placed in front of the fire with a matching footrest(not available) in the drafty castle to stay warm. Concerns: Obviously there are concerns with the chairs. I was not able to capture all concerns in the pictures- not enough picture space on ebay. The main concerns are the cracks demonstrated throughout the pictures. There are cracks in the chairs that have been repaired(you can see the glue/cracks in areas) I did not do any repairing-

We are pleased to offer this EXCEPTIONAL 19th century chair(2 available) The chair features heavily carved. Walnut frame. It is a high back design with a slightly Gothic profile. The back is open in a Ladder Back fashion with a large, rounded medallion at the tops. The rounded sections are arched and scalloped on their lower sections. It is exquisitely carved in an intricate urn and floral pattern which is similar to that of the French Brittany style. A carved, scalloped design is also present. The lower cross"ladder" supports are arched, with the arches notched in a flower petal design, and have a center carved fan shaped accent. The upper side supports feature sections of elongated turned wood and unique finials. The legs are turned wood with both upper and lower supports. The front legs are accented with double turned wood supports ... moreas well as an upper support which repeats the design of the ladder back pieces. The rush seat is original and features thick fibers which are assembled in 4 distinct, triangular patterns. The chair is in very good condition for age. Side front and crown with beautifully detailed carved rosettes on turned block legs and upper corners, carved arms, acorn finials, and bun feet. Phenomenal pierce carving throughout the tall back splats and leaf form carved crest bottom rails. The carving depict flora in various forms which would blend well with a variety of other types of furniture as well as with different styles and periods. I am not an antique expert or dealer but this is the description I have got from the local dealers. Eastlake era throne chair believed to be old masonic and has been labeled as the Senior Warden Throne(also have Junior Warden Throne on separate listing) The thrones are VERY sturdy.I pulled these thrones out of an estate sale that had many various masonic items silverware. The Cooper Hewitt has in their collection photograph albums of examples from this firm and this chair is pictured in that album. This style furniture-Modern Gothic- was exhibited by the firm at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. Size: just under 36" tall at the back and the seat is: 17" x 16" x 16" tall. This listing is for a circa 1880 Glastonbury dark tiger oak chair. Glastonbury chair is a 19th century term for an earlier wooden chair. Usually of oak based on a chair made for Richard Whiting, the last Abbot of Glastonbury, England. It has existed since the Early Middle Ages, then disapeared until 15th century A.D. and then re-emerged in Italy. It was then made in Britain from a description brought back from Rome. There it was produced by John Thorne, a monk at the abbey. An example of this chair can be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Additional information can be obtained from your browser. This is an antique copy which is pegged joined. This piece measures 36" in height with a seat height of 19" and an approximate 19" X 19" seat. It is in very good condition with the exception of some of the missing detail ... moreon the inside back. Which is either forgivable or requires little restoration. And repair to one arm. Please refer to photographs. The deep color and patination of the dark tiger oak is rich. This is an"X" frame which is sturdy and does not fold. Beautiful Antique Pressed Back Chair. I purchased this fantastic antique chair several years ago in Charlotte. North Carolina. I believe it is oak, however, I do not know if black is it's original color. I would assume it was painted at some point, either way it gives the chair an amazing primitive look. I am also unsure about it's actual age. I would think sometime in the very late 1800's, or early 1900's. It does show signs of typical wear that comes with furniture of it's age and material. There are scuffs, scratches, a few pin holes from where it had been covered at one time with a horse hair pad, and a few cracks(see photos) they do not affect it's use and add to it's character& charm. Antique 19th century Gothic Revival bobbin turned chair. Purchases from a high-end antique dealer in NYC over 20 years ago, claimed to be French in origin. Condition- amazing& original finish and patina. Original casters, left ball finial at top of back has been impeccably restored, one of the back splats has been broken and re-glued and delicate for sitting, seat has been re-sprung and covered in brown silk which has some wear. Dimensions- 42 1/2" high x 18" wide x 22" deep overall.
