So where do I begin with this item? Well. Rather than calling it a chair I will instead call it a gothic throne- With the beautiful stamped leather seats. take a look at the pictures and you will clearly see why. The carving and the craftsmanship of this throne is nothing short of stunning. The detail is so intricate and incredibly ornate.I believe that it is stained white oak. I've searched the throne over extensively and cannot find a maker's mark or name. I imported them myself from France/Belgium. Some of the back seats needs a little work as you can see in the 5th and 6th picture. Price is for one chair. If this item needs to be shipped I can make arrangements but you can also do that yourself or pick it up. I will do whatever is necessary on my end to help you facilitate the process.

My grandfather brought two of these remarkable hand carved original antique thrones at about the turn of the century 1900. He hade two daughters and gave one to each. It was my mothers and has sat safely and respectably in our family's home for many years. We have done some research and we bilieve it is from the Dhing Dynasty era. As each piece was made to specifications of the current emporer. It is in excellent shape and was displayed in the homes but not used. Early 20th century. In the late 19th Century the carving, particularly on the back of the chairs, became more imposing and excessively intricate. Incredible carved Fenghuang arms with wings, this chair is virtually covered in high relied carving. This is an exceptional example of Chinese Export Furniture in the late 19th Century and a very rare find. The Fenghuang or Chinese Phoenix, in Chinese mythology, is an immortal bird whose rare appearance is said to be an omen foretelling harmony at the ascent to the throne of a new emperor. Like the qilin(a unicorn-like creature) the fenghuang is often considered to signify both male and female elements, a ... moreyin-yang harmony; its name is a combination of the words feng representing the male aspect and huang the female. It is mentioned as early as the Shang dynasty in oracle-bone inscriptions. The fenghuang appears to be a symbol of Confucian values, wearing the characters meaning virtue, duty, ritual, compassion, and trust on various parts of its body. If seen, it is a sign of world peace. Its latest appearance is said to have taken place in Anhui province at the grave of the father of Hongwu, founder of the Ming dynasty in 1368. Estate Find: What a rare and fabulous find! This RJ Horner Griffin Finial Hall Throne Chair dating circa 1890s. I am not a furniture expert. However, based on my research I'm convinced this is an original Horner chair. This chair meets every criteria listed here: rarevictorian.com/2008/06/attributing-rj-horner-hall-chairs.html. This chair is truley majestic and could be the centerpiece of any period decor. It sits very comfortable and your mind can't help but wonder at who may have set in the chair in it's history. These chairs were fairly expensive for their time so it was almost assuredly from a home of wealth. The estate this chair was purchased from contained many high end pieces of antique furniture and artwork. This chair is the quartersawn oak variation. There is no label attached to this chair as with some Horner work. ... moreThis isn't uncommon for pieces of his work. There is the light area on the bottom of the chair that has the number"2235" printed in it. This chair is in impressive condition. Especially when you consider it's age. There is a wonderful patina on both arms, across the fron of the seat, and a small amount near the bottom of the back where the stain has been worn off over the years from use. There are a couple minor issues. On the top right of the backrest is a piece of missing ornamentation roughly 1" long. Another tiny piece also missing from the trim on the right leg. There is a small amount of wear along the top edge on the backside of the backrest. A few other minor scratches can be noticed, primarily around the feet area. Other than those, I have not noticed anything wrong with this chair. This chair would be beautiful in any collection. Restoration costs would be minimal if the new owner chose to do so. These are a Superb very impressive pair of I would say Spanish Renaissance style embossed leather arm chairs. Really very nice crisp carvings with claw feet. The leather on the seats have a tear. What a show stopper of a throne chair. The best Victorian carved solid walnut throne chair I've seen by an American maker. I believe it's Robert Mitchell around 1895-1905 circa and there is no way of describing how large and fantastic this chair is! Has both exquisite Needlepoint and Petitpoint upholstery. Look at the size of the flower cartouche under the front of the seat. It's literally over 5' tall if that helps perspective. Has beautiful Quality Nail Head trimming around the scalloped bottom of the chair. One very small area where missing a decorative piece but this is hard to see. I cannot find anything wrong with the needlepoint or petitpoint and no stains or rips. I only see some of the back trim on the seat has worked lose but it is all still there and still in tack. ANTIQUE 1800's CARVED CURULE THRONE CHAIR WITH 4 FOLIATE GREEN MAN FACES
This beautifully carved throne chair has four foliate Green Man faces. It is carved all around except the backing. If you look closely in the second photo you can see the sun and the moon. The chair is in great condition with two minor draw backs. I believe the handmade tapestry was added. And there is a slight split in the wood. This is marked with a white box on the photo. I have not found another like it. I had to contact an appraiser. The chair dates back to the 1800's. It is solid, and very heavy. The wood could be walnut or mahogany. This is an outstanding piece, even with it's two flaws, and especially for it's age. I am open to negotiations. I have listed shipping as for pick up. It has Serpent/Birds on the top a Carved Crest on the back and Heads craved where the arms meet the back. It is 27" wide at the arms and 56" high. I have taken picture of the damage. This is a show stopper! Just a super fine example of a rare model throne chair in carved walnut. Sweet chair and massive. It measures 55" tall, 29" wide, 25" deep and 18" seat height. Literally carved everywhere and it makes for a beautiful piece. Believed to be Robert Mitchell of Cincinnati, Ohio. Love the pierced carved spear shaped finials and pierced carved back. It's in original finish and we have cleaned it and is near perfect condition, any loose joints have been glued and then freshly upholstered in a heavy rich gold and red Chanel fabric. I gave up as it became futile. What I can tell you about the chairs. The chairs are solid wood& hand carved. I am unsure of the wood. The chairs appear to be from around the mid to late 1800's. During this time period generally mahogany was used. But I cannot verify the wood. The black material appears to be leather. Dating of the chair came from the springs- thick/heavy. I do not know if the leather is the original material. The style of the chair leads me to believe it came from Europe. These are generally what is called a throne chair. The story goes that they were placed in front of the fire with a matching footrest(not available) in the drafty castle to stay warm. Concerns: Obviously there are concerns with the chairs. I was not able to capture all concerns in the pictures- not enough picture space on ebay. The main concerns are the cracks demonstrated throughout the pictures. There are cracks in the chairs that have been repaired(you can see the glue/cracks in areas) I did not do any repairing-

I am not an antique expert or dealer but this is the description I have got from the local dealers. Eastlake era throne chair believed to be old masonic and has been labeled as the Senior Warden Throne(also have Junior Warden Throne on separate listing) The thrones are VERY sturdy.I pulled these thrones out of an estate sale that had many various masonic items silverware. ANTIQUE HAND CARVED WALNUT THRONE HALL CHAIR ITALIAN? WITH CHERUBS OR PUTTIS
Amazing. Large and heavy hand carved walnut Italian or perhaps French throne/hall chair, measuring31" wide, 30" deep, and 47" high. It is big and imposing and carved to the hilt! It resembles the circa 1900 Italian"Blackamoor" chairs. But there are no Blackamoor figures carved down the front of the arms. The rest of the chair, however, is carved in the same manner. The chair needs to be reupholstered, but the wood is in great condition. There are a few toes missing ends-as pictured- and some scrapes and scuffs, but overall this chair retains most of its original magnificence! I was told it was purchased from a Catholic institution on the east coast sometime in the mid 20th century, but do not know for sure.
