The woodwork on the gent’s chair is a bit narrower than the lady’s chair. The fabric is nice and usable, but the fabric on the top of the lady’s chair could be tightened up a bit. ELEGANT EARLY VICTORIAN LEATHER UPHOLSTERED ROSEWOOD LIBRARY ARMCHAIR. C. 1860 This elegant early Victorian library armchair is English and dates to approximately 1860. The rectangular back has a pierced and carved crest with shells and scrollwork. As well as scrolling carved decoration on each side. The padded arms end with carved scrolled handrests and have scrolled supports. The front legs of the chair are fluted and with carved acanthus leaves, ending in brass caps and casters. The back legs are splayed and end with brass casters. Both sides of the back, the armrests and the seat are beautifully upholstered in brown leather with brass studs. The chair measures 27-1/2"w x 24"d x 39-1/2"h, with the seat measuring 19"w x 21"d x 15-1/2"h. The chair is extremely comfortable and would make quite a statement in ... morea library or living room. Grapes and leaves motifs around the backrest with additional lovely carving on the arms and legs as well as it's original casters. This delightful Victorian era chair came through an old Charleston family estate sale so I can't be sure whether it is indeed American made or perhaps imported from somewhere in Europe earlier in it's journey. I found this chair at a local Market. Made of OAK and in some areas"tiger" oak on the back. This is a very solid Chair. It looks to me to have some of the features of both the Edwardian and Eastlake Victorian styles. It has been stripped of the original DARK finish to reveal the beautiful Golden Oak. the upholstery is most likely not original but it is solid and matches without being gaudy the Hand carved Flowers in the head area are wonderful as well as the half circle carvings across the top. the sides facing the front are carved with what looks like scales or stylized leaves or a vine. The chair is made of walnut with a beautiful warm patina. The chair has a scrolling frame which slants slightly backward as was the custom at the time. The arms are supported by turned"spindle" supports and a shaped and carved front. The seat is deep and very comfortable. With a moulded skirt. The chair stands on two large turned front feet and two rectangular back legs. All four ending in brass caps and the chair's original wood casters. Do a search for images of Victorian balloon back chairs and you will notice that having stretchers is a rarity. The front stretcher is turned. At the sides there are double stretchers. This construction makes them very sturdy. Other design features are the turned, tapered and splayed front legs and the curve and flare of the back supports. They are stylish and elegant. Lovely small upholstered victorian armchair still with the original springs and horse hair filling standing on mahogany swept back legs to the rear and turned legs to the front. The stylish shaped sprung arms and shaped sprung headrest gives this 150 year old chair a contemporary feel that would fit into any home. The small size of the chair together with the sloping arms may mean that this was originally used as a victorian nursing chair. This awesome stuffed chair is an original vintage. Fully restored. I bought it at an estate auction in central Illinois. It was pretty well used then. I had it professionally re-upholstered, and the wood has been refinished also. I am ready to part with it only because it no longer goes with our decor style. The seat cushion is reversible. Brought it home and set to work on making it Beautiful again. It has been setting in our living room for several years. Never used except for a Stuffed Animal. I am going to say Pick up only. The turned spindles are all in good condition and none of them are broken. The glider mechanism is made of cast iron. And notice that there is a patent signature on the cast iron works. ~ Positively Stunning ~ Antique Victorian Heywood Wakefield Ladies Reception Chair circa 1800- 1899 This beautiful Heywood Wakefield ladies reception chair appears to have the original mat gold finish.in addition. It has two tufted fabric cushions. The seat cushion is constructed with a wood frame. The cushions are tufted with 90 small buttons. One appears to have been replaced and 3 are missing.however, it is not terribly noticeable and they can be replaced. The seat is wood and cane. The dimensions are as follows: Height- floor to top of seat back- 33" Height- floor to seat(without cushion) 15.25 cushion adds approx. 2" Width of chair at widest point- 19.5" Width of Seat- 17.25" Depth- chair front to back- approx. 21" CONDITION: Exceptional Condition.despite age. There is slight wear noted to the finish on the seat ... morein a couple of places. The original cushions have been reupholstered several times. See photos. Three of the buttons are missing on the WOOD FRAMED seat cushion but it is barely noticeable. The finish appears to be the ORIGINAL gold mat color. The seat frame appears to have been touched up over the years. The cane seat is in very good condition except for one small area(see last photo) The chair is VERY STURDY.
