One chair has metal castors that are all original and the other chair has wooden castors that appear to be original. A pair of quality Victorian balloon back upholstered chairs. This pair can be dated to a design by C& R Light. London from 1881* Unusually these chairs have stretchers uniting all legs. Do a search for images of Victorian balloon back chairs and you will notice that having stretchers is a rarity. The front stretcher is turned. At the sides there are double stretchers. This construction makes them very sturdy. Other design features are the turned, tapered and splayed front legs and the curve and flare of the back supports. They are stylish and elegant. They are attractively upholstered in a heavy weight tapestry fabric of French toile design. This is in good condition. The underside of one of the seats could do with some tidying up. Up for sale i have a very nice pair of his and hers antique walnut parlor chairs, balloon back, his has about a 40" tall back, 24" x 23" seats, hers the back is about 38" L ooks like the fabric was probably replaced. Looks good. as you can see i pulled back part of the cloth on the bottom hoping to find a name, no name but it was interesting that there was thick strips of what looks like heavy burlap stretched tightly across the bottom. A couple of staples and it will look like new again. Probably from late 1800's. Hers has rollers on the front but not on the back. His has rollers on front and back. Victorian balloon back chairs from the 18 sixty's or early 1870s era these are walnuts and in extremely good condition they do have old finish. These are upholstered in blue I also have a set that is in a greenish material that matches these both are being sold in sets of 2. The last pic shows them with one of the green chairs so you can see they match perfectly if interested in both sets. Both chairs have no breaks and are extremely tight with no visible repairs. Antique Victorian Velvet Balloon Back Carved Parlor Chair Beautiful old Victorian Parlor chair- it has detailed carving and the velvet is worn in spots. I've had this chair since the 60's and the bottom has finally gave out. I tried to hold the springs tight with white ties. But that does not work. It can be brought back to a beautiful future, the springs are the usually the first thing to go and then needs to be covered, as you can see it has the original fabric woven on the bottom. One small chip/piece out on the Left knee see photo, it is a sold chair despite its overall look, so I'm starting it at a low price. Any questions please ask.
