The old finish is very well preserved with a little antique character- there are mars and wear at the edges. Waxed and buffed. Each side chair features shaped carved hip-rests and all the chairs are covered in a creamy-white fabric with matching covered cord trim. Each of the side chairs measures 36 inches high.17 1/2 inches wide, seat depth of 16 1/2 inches and seat height to the floor of 20 inches and each chair weighs approximately 10 lbs. These are solid wood with chippy. Gilt or golden color finish. The upholstery is a French Damask also featuring golden yellow shade with white scroll work. Not sure of age of fabric, most likely a vintage re-upholstering. The chairs are 35.5" tall at backs, 19.5" wide and 17" deep. The seat heights are 19" There is some damage. One wood balloon back has cracks in the seams of wood and is slightly loose. Other chairs show repair and patching of loose joints. One chair is slightly wobbly when seated so it requires some tightening. See photos. overall, they are very nice but they do have a few antique, age issues. Condition The Chairs are sound& sturdy, the woodwork will have the odd slight mark here and there which is in keeping with an Antique used item but this is minimal, they have a couple of slight old repairs but these are very minimal. We purchased these chairs with two added shield back arm chairs as a set of six. We are breaking up the side chairs and arm chairs. They were not a true matched set but all covered in the same fabric. They do work well together if you desire the complete set. On point-these period chairs enjoy great structural integrity and wonderful original finish. In the very early 20th Century the six chairs had their foundations rebuilt& corner seat support blocks replaced. Support blocks were usually made of pine or poplar and disintegrate over a century or so. These chairs have the best tapered reed and spade foot ... morecarved feet& fine smartly carved bell flower motifs on each of their back splats with heavily molded back crests. They have no breaks or repairs on their frames. Here is a really great set of 19th century heavily carved solid oak chairs with original cane seats and pegged construction. The barley twists are fantastic and there is a lot of it.along the backs of the chairs as well as the front and rear legs and stretchers. The carved crowns of each chair is a little different and they all have the same design of bellflowers. Shells, C-scrolls, foliage and other floral touches. This is all carved thick oak and is shown from the front and the back. The seat edges are all very interesting carved. Almost a gadrooned look, to the side and front edges of each chair. Exceptional matching set of 8 dining chairs consisting of two large arm chairs and six large side chairs. This set was manufactured by the RJ Horner company of NY circa 1900 and I will be selling them separate from the rest of the set which is one of the heavily carved dolphin models. We completely striped these down to frames and repaired/refinished them to the highest standards of restoration before just having them covered in black leather and nail head tacks. A pair of 19th century Chippendale style carved chairs(one arm chair and one side chair) we do not believe they are period 18th century Chippendale. But rather a touch later, or even Centennial. The arm chair measures approximately 45" tall, 24-3/8" wide, and 23" deep. The side chair measures approximately 44.75" tall, 22-3/8" wide, and 20" deep. The condition is good overall and there is normal wear and tear commensurate with age and use. The seats were recovered a couple years ago and we have the original needlepoint seat upholstery for one of the chairs(the other was too deteriorated to save) The burlap has been replaced on both seat covers- both chairs are structurally sound, sturdy, and ready to use. 6 WHITE SLIP COVERED, HAND CARVED DINING CHAIRS, FRENCH COUNTRY, EARLY 1800'S
These chairs are unique. I have never seen another set like them. From Europe. They appear to be made of cherry wood. Which makes me think they might have come from France. They may be older than 1800's but I am not sure. Please note the hand carving on the front stretcher of each chair. There is a rose carved in the center of each. The carving is very high quality. They are very sturdy and thickly padded. The upholstery, which, is in excellent condition, showing no wear, is a decorator fabric in yellow and aqua. All six chairs have custom made, 2 piece slip covers that are lined. The seat covers fasten on the back with Velcro. You may have to fuss a little putting the covers back on the seats. Certain covers go on certain chairs. Beautiful set(c1880) recently purchased at auction. Includes 5 side chairs and one captain's chair. The captain's chair varies slightly from the side chairs(see photo 1) All chairs are walnut with hand carved/notched details on the backs and"arm" supports. All chairs feature burled walnut on the upper backs. The captain's chair features hand notched pattern on the burl wood. The chairs feature hand caned backs and seats. All chairs are in good condition with minor evidence of age and they have not been restored. One chair has an old. Small repair at the arm, but it is good and is not distracting. The chairs are beautiful and very interesting in appearance. The cane is good and the chairs are sturdy.
