Authentic to it's period style these chairs feature wide seats with simple yet elegant upholstery. This sophisticated pair of chairs were carved in a solid mahogany wood with attention focused on the armrests which are uniquely wide and beautifully carved at the ends. The wood has been wonderfully preserved over the years. We did not add any stain to these chairs in order to keep them as original as possible. This chair has no cloudiness in the stain(from being over stain through out the years) and we used a minimal amount of polish to restore it's shine. These chairs are both incredibly solid and study. These extremely well made. Sturdy chairs feature some of the finest carvings seen on furniture of a hundred ye ars ago. They are in all-original. Excellent condition with no repairs or refinish. The chairs originally came out of a Governor's mansion on the east coast where they were used in conjunction with four matching chairs and a massive oak dining table that extends up to ten feet. Made from yew and elm wood. Chairs measure 41.5"42.5" high, 21"21.75" wide, and 23"24.5" deep. Seat widths vary from 14" to 16" and seat heights are all roughly 18" All have wonderfully rich, matching patinas consistent with chairs from the early to mid 19th century. The set requires the following minor repairs which we will complete at our expense prior to shipment. The hoop arm at one end and a few spindles on one chair require regluing. I believe they chairs were made by the Wood& Perot company(1858-1866) But could also be from the Robert Wood& Company(1866-1879) They feature a very ornate lyre back neoclassical design.The origins can be traced back to Perot& Woods 1858 catalog titled" Portfolio of Original Designs of Iron Railings. The leather is all premium Italian aged leather which has been hand dyed, only the original period leather sofas and armchairs are hand dyed, what hand dyed means as a process is they built the armchair, upholstered the leather then hand dyed it to make sure it has the correct colour effect, on modern armchairs 99% of companies use pre-dyed leather, as you can imagine this cuts down on man power and time ten fold. The give away to hand dyed leather is you can see the natural beige colour inside the folds and where the leather finishes at the base it again is the natural colour Following on from the above the armchair has been horse hair filled. Elegant curved lines and are raised on scrolled supports. They are upholstered in a green damask with delicate floral pattern. The pair would look lovely both in a sitting room or a bedroom.
