The piece has beautiful design that would has an air of elegance to it. Made of Oak. The hall chair is a fine example of high quality furniture of the era. There is a note on the base which reads Made in Darlington. Warwickshire. You can see from the pictures that the wood is beautifully carved on both the seat and the backrest. The craftsmanship is of extremely high quality. Overall the chair is in good condition for its age. There is a repair to one of the rear legs though which has suffered a break at some time. Additionally there are some redundent woodworm holes in the base plate. Carved Oak North Wind hall chair Victorian Gothic gargoyle 1800's northwind
You are buying a carved oak Victorian Gothic North Wind hall chair. It was made in the late 1800's. Probably in the Northeast US. This IMPOSING chair is full size: 43 inches tall. The seat is 15 3/8 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches from the floor. The back of the chair was made to slope slightly backward- for"comfort" No doubt! When pushed against a wall so that the top of the chair is against the wall, the front of the chair extends 19 inches from the wall into the room. The chair weighs 22 pounds. This chair is in great condition with very little wear and NO DAMAGE to the carving! The bottom has two seams where the wood boards for the seat were joined. These are not cracks or splits. If you turn the chair around and look closely at the back. You can see that most of the wood screws holding this chair together are covered by wood ... morebuttons. Two of the eight buttons are missing, but this is only visible from the back if you look for it. Satisfaction guaranteed. 14 day return period after it is delivered to you. If you want to reduce mailing costs. I can take this chair apart so it fits in a smaller box by removing the wooden buttons and wood screws in the back. Absolutely the best pair I've come across in my research, hand carved with the odd fellows chains on the finial. These massive oak chairs are surprisingly comfortable. Plenty of tension left in the old springs. I've had a lot of fun with these chairs this week as you can see haha. They make you feel like a king.
