The chair frame is a little loose. Not bad but with that said a very useable and very comfortable piece! The back has deep tufting and the seat cushion I believe to be feather filled. The finish is like a light walnut, the chair has wonderful carving and the style is just fabulous! Measures 43" tall, 30" wide and about 36" in depth. This is a dark wood which we believe is either mahogany or walnut. The finish appears to be the original finish and does show some scratches and wear but is still in beautiful condition for its age. The back has some design carving as shown in the pictures. The seat measures 17" x 17" and is about 17" high. It is upholstered in a dark blue designed fabric(not sure if it is original but it is definitely old) and is inner spring supported. Please see pictures for details. It is solid with no loose joints. We are pleased to offer this beautiful pair of antique corner chairs. The chairs feature ornately carved wood frames with strong French characteristics in the patterns. They have a black. High sheen, painted finish(lacquered? The curved vertical back supports feature a dimensional, carved acanthus leaf design on both the front and back face profile. The corner and side legs are turned wood with a small fluted section. They are adorned with a three flower medallion at their mid point. The seat frames are skirted and feature very ornate, scrolled acanthus leaves which connect in the center to form a fleur de lis accent. The seats and the top, curved back frame are fabric covered. The crest rail is crafted in three parts, the arm rails on either side joined beneath the upper crest section; all three parts are joined from beneath with screws, the entire facade then being carved with an intricate flow of Sunflowers amongst foliate surmounted by two facing butterflies. The arms of solid rosewood wrap around the chair, terminating in scrolled sunk Sunflower handholds. The back of the rail is formed of two bent splats between each post. These splats laminated with rosewood veneers on the outmost edges; the face of the splats are carved with a somewhat imaginary honeysuckle and anthemion over the chip carved ground. The posts are finely turned solid rosewood with scratched channels, terminating at the end in a turned ring-and-ball arrangement that originally would have rested over caster wheels. We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique corner chair. The chair(listing is for one chair. We have 2 available) features an ornately carved wood frame with strong French, Neoclassical pattern. The chair is painted and distressed in white over black so that the carved designs are enhanced. Their is a slightly crackled finish to the paint in some areas. The vertical back supports/splats feature a dimensional, carved acanthus leaf design on both the interior and exterior profile. The corner and side legs are turned wood with a small fluted section. They are adorned with a three flower medallion at their mid point. The seat apron features scrolled acanthus leaves which connect in the center to form a fleur de lis accent. The seat and the top back frame are fabric covered. The fabric is a chenille/velvet style(plush) and is burgundy red. ... moreIt is trimmed with black bric-a-brac. The fabric appears to be fairly new and is not original to the chair. The chair is in good condition. It is sturdy with some minor movement in the frame. The fabric is extremely good with no rips. Tears, stains, etc. The chair measures as follows: It is 30" tall. The seat frame is 14.5" tall. But with the padded seat, the seat height is 18" The chair measures 26.75" wide at the arm section. It is 25" deep from front of seat to back corner. The padded seat section is 14" squared. Due to the size and somewhat fragile nature of the chair. Ebony fretwork Victorian Eastlake corner chair w/incised carving. On wheels.
HOTLINE: 425- 877-1074. Charming corner chair believed. Based on style and construction, to be an original Victorian piece in the Eastlake style. Ebony-finished wood frame features cut-out flowers, fluted arms, lathe-turned legs, and incised carving. Re-upholstery was done relatively recently using a slightly slubbed sateen-like purple with a thin gold grid pattern; a matching. Gold-embroidered fabric was used on the rolled back support. The seat and back are cushioned with thick foam. There is one light spot on the purple upholstery. About an inch diameter(see photos) You can see the nail holes on the underside of the seat support where the original upholstery was attached. Most likely web-supported springs which at some point were replaced by a braced plywood board and a foam cushion. The wood in the corner also has nail holes in it. The ... morebottom half of one floret in the filigree is missing(see 2nd photo) If you look underneath and at the joints. There is evidence of repairs to the chair frame. It feels quite sturdy now. Although it's not obvious. If you examine the wood trim along the front curved edge, you can see it doesn't lie completely flat, as it was bent by making curf cuts in the back side of it. It's not clear whether this trim is original, or part of the previously mentioned repairs. What a fun perch! This little chair is obviously an attractive accent piece with a great sense of history. Antique Victorian Corner inlaid Chair
This beautiful chair was purchased by my wife at a high end estate sale. We took it to a local appraiser who told us that it is definitely antique and possibly pre- victorian. The chair is in very good condition. Beautiful seat, and the inlay is very nice. The bottom side is upholstered also, see pictures. I think it is mahogony, but not for sure on this. The appraiser was not positive on the age of the chair, he had never seen one like this before. He did not estimate value due to lack of comparable chairs. Featured is a beautiful Victorian corner chair in the Chippendale style. It has a lovely North wind carved design on the back crest and an old needlepoint seat. The finish I believe is the original one. I have owned it for 38 years and just dusted it never using wax or any chemicals on it. There is wear to the ball and claw feet where the finish is worn. Up for BIN/B.O. is a light. Ornate, delicately-lined, but very strong Victorian caned corner seat. Underlying wood may be mahogany. But it is painted with a gilt-green and shows remnants of white flake. Will probably need to be re-painted/refinished. Caning is strong and intact. With only minor wear.
