Antique Oak Child’s Youth Chair– circa 1860-1880 This is in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT shape for its age. It has a curved back. With 8 spindles and the rear legs are on a slant. Measures 31 1/2” tall. The Seat is 12" wide and the legs measure 15 1/2" wide on the front legs and 13 3/4" wide on the back legs. The chair has a solid oak plank seat. So it will hold up forever. Two Antique Masonic 1862 Plank Seat Chairs w/ Original Paint Decoration
The overall measurements of this early pair of chairs are about 32 in. high with a 15 in. by 15 in. seat and a seat height of 17 in. They have original paint with the Masonic symbol on the top back slat. At the top of a back leg they are marked with initials and the date 1862. This style of chair was very popular in the 1860s and these were most likely made and decorated for a Masonic group. The chairs are sturdy and in good condition for their age. They have paint loss. This listing is for a pair of Country chairs; plank-seated. Totally hand-made, circa 1830. The height on the chairs are 31 inches tall to the back rail, and the width at its widest point at the end of the arms is 25 inches. They are originally from Pennsylvania, or southwest NJ. When I purchased them in 1969, they were in Hamburg, N.J. on what used to be the old Hamburg stage, where people boarded the stage coach. That place became the Hamburg post office at the end of the 19th century. They were kept by the post mistress in her adjoining home. Then they were moved to my home, where they remained until now. Antique Child's Windsor Plank Seat Arm Chair Old Black Paint ca. 1850 PA Estate!
Thanks for taking the time to view our posting. We are proud to offer for your consideration this wonderful 19th century antique child's Windsor arm chair from a PA estate. Excellent craftsmanship.made of solid hardwood(sorry but I'm not sure what kind) Solid plank seat. Hewn to form a saddle shape with a slightly raised center. All lathe turned, slender spindles/spokes pegged into a steam bent/curved swooping top rail. This top rail has a simple, but lovely incised/carved center molding line decoration, which is characteristic of Windsors made in and around Boston. Unlike the Windsor side chair, which has no arms, this piece has a two-tiered back, with a secondary stem bent/curved medial rail that extends to form the chair arms, which are then supported on each corner of the seat by two fantastic, lathe turned and steam bent arch ... moreshaped spindles. Lathe turned legs, with characteristic medial stretcher between horizontal stretchers on each side. Front two legs feature beautiful ball shaped decorative turning.such decorative turnings on front legs along with plain back legs is also characteristic of early chairs from the Boston area. Very sturdy! The piece is painted with old black paint over an earlier red paint and what appears to be an even earlier red wash or stain. All of these finishes have worn to the most wonderful, authentic primitive patina with bits of red showing through the current black paint! Based on the style and construction technique, I would estimate the age of this great little chair to be ca. 1840's- 1870's, possibly earlier. The piece is in very good condition, especially considering its age. Appropriate wear to all surfaces and edges, minor wear and losses to paint from many years of exposure, which gives it a great primitive appeal! There are some old repairs.on the left arm, there is an old screw which was apparently used to reinforce the spot where the end of the arm meets its supporting spindle. All original. American Windsor side chair. It has an old white paint. The original color seems to be a dark brown. The frame of the chair is solid and sturdy. It has turned spindles on the back. Offering a wonderful small chair with original paint and a plank seat. It's a charming size to tuck in a corner or place on a hearth. The black paint is early and original. Adams County, PA ca. 1850's Adams or York Counties of Pennsylvania Circa 1840-1860 We love paint decorated plank and this set is certainly no exception! Superbly fancy decorated chairs with a nice mellow dark brown base colour. And floral swag decoration with gold painted acanthus and green banding decoration on the crest rail, flanked on both sides by the same green and gold banding paint, encasing a central splat back with acanthus leaf gold paint adornments all on a flame feather decorated plank seat, over a four stretcher and ring turned legs with the same green and gold paint decorations. Wonderful chairs in a exceptional state of preservation. 100% original paint and decorations. We guarantee the paint is right. The decoration is very typical of south central Pennsylvania. York ... moreand Adams Counties specifically. Possibly could be from Franklin county too(Franklin County borders Adams county to the west) These chairs are most likely from the 1840's to the 1860's our best guess is they are a bit more on the earlier side of the given range. The entire chair is constructed from poplar woods. The condition is excellent! Very minimal wear. With the exception of one seat which is badly worn(see pictures) There is the typical wear associated with chairs of this type, you can expect dings and wear, especially on the seats, and front/side stretchers. All of the chairs are relatively tight, and are very sturdy. Ready for a bunch more years of use! We have rubbed a light coat of orange oil wax preserver to give them a nice lustre. Old Yellow Thumb Back Antique Primitive 1800's Plank Seat Chair.Bamboo Turnings
Listing this evening a nice old primitive plank seat chair in old yellow paint. From the early 1800's it has nice bamboo turnings on the legs. The chair is 33 1/2" high. The plank seat is a full 2 inches thick and has great form. The plank seat is 17 1/2" high. 15 1/4" wide and 15 3/4 deep to the back of the chair. It has splits in 3 of the back spindles and 1 side rung is completely gone(I have stuck a new spindle into one side of the chair and you may choose to use that or replace it with one of your own. It is too big and fragile to ship via post office at a reasonable cost so local pickup is the best option. I can hold the chair for a reasonable period of time should you wish to purchase it and pick it up during your travels to the New England area later on. Thank you for viewing and have a great day!
