CONDITION: Please see photos. The leather and chair show wear. But are in overall good shape for the age. It is a very sturdy and solid chair. The leather seat has a 1" tear, so is probably better for decoration than actual use. There is also a chip in the wood of one leg. The chair slants ever slightly lower in the front. This could be remedied by inserting a couple plastic or metal foot pins in the front legs. I cannot say for certain the type of wood, but the grain is indicative of a high quality wood. We have 2 more identical chairs plus a matching arm chair. Each listed individually.

Antique 19th Century Swahili Grandee's Chair or Chair of Power
Antique 19th Century Swahili Grandee's Chair or Chair of Power. For sale is this antique 19th Century Swahili Grandee's Chair or Chair of Power. It measures 46" high by 26 1/2" wide by 24 3/4" deep. The seat height is 20 3/4" high and 13" in depth. There is a cord caning seat and foot rest. There is brad decorations on the chair back. This is some information on the chair: This high-backed seat known as a“chair of power” or“grandee’s chair” kiti cha enzi) Is a graphic reminder of the complex history of international trade and conquest in the region known as the Swahili Coast. As early as the first century, the region’s natural harbors invited exchange with partners in the Persian Gulf and Western India. Later the Portuguese, Omani, and British imposed their authority on its inhabitants. With each conquering ... morestate, newly imported goods and practices took root as symbols of authority and power among the Swahili elite. The upright form of the kiti cha enzi chair bears strong resemblance to sixteenth- and seventeenth-century chairs imported from Portugal and Spain. As well as to Portuguese- and Spanish-influenced examples made in India. Comparisons have also been made with chairs from the Mamluk period(1250–1517) in Egypt. In any case, the Swahili version is clearly the result of foreign influences that have been artfully synthesized and reshaped by local artisans. Most such chairs in collections today date from the nineteenth century and were made in large, specialized workshops. They could be found conspicuously displayed in wealthy households along the Swahili Coast into the first half of the twentieth century. One shoe foot is worn/damaged. One of the arms has an age split up it. Both of these blemishes can be seen in my photos. The dark spots on the close up of the chair arm are not damage spots. It had started to drizzle while I was photographed the chair. Those spots were wiped off immediately and are not seen on the chair now. While my home is pet and smoke free, I have no ide

Rare 19th Century African Island Etc Birthing Stool Chair Etc 3 Leg Figural
For your consideration is a a rare 19th Century African. Island, etc birthing stool or some other kind of stool or chair. I am not an expert in this area. The item was recently purchased at a local auction. The consignor believed the stool was an African 200 year old birthing stool. The family he purchased it from told them their wealthy aunt traveled all over the world and this particular item was brought back to America from one of her travels in the 1920s-30s. I had someone else think it was 19th Century and African. I will guarantee that at the very least it dates back to the early 20th Century, but I am of the opinion it is 19th Century as well. Since I am not an expert, I will leave it up to those in the know. An expert opinion is appreciated so I can at least put it in the correct category if I do not have it right. 19th Century Carved Chair-Original Nailhead Brocade Upholstery-35"hx18"w x18"d
This is a wonderful 19th Century chair that belonged to my grandmama. She played the piano for us and sat on this chair but I am not sure if it was meant for a piano or not. It has the original green brocade fabric that is fastened on the back with nailheads. I am not sure of the style so you decide and if anyone knows let me know. I am selling a large estate for my brothers and sisters that belonged to my grandparents and parents. They had wonderful taste and were very well off in the mid century. They only had quality pieces which I shall be listing. Unfortunately. We were devastated by the Sandy Storm and are forced to sell our beloved inheritance, but life goes on. The only imperfection I see is that a small wooden cover is missing on the back as shown, but it is for asthetic purposes. The chair is solid and for sure a conversation piece. ... moreThe weight of this chair alone is about 15 pounds.

American Hoop Back Windsor Chair, Antique Early 19th Century w/ Alterations
American Hoopback or Bowback Windsor Side Chair With alterations- potty seat restored. Glossy refinish Item# 100003WFJ25 This is a nice decorative American Windsor Bow Back Side Chair. Sturdy and stable for regular use without concern about ruining an untouched period antique- the chair originally was a potty-chair, this having been adjusted at some point in the 20th Century(properly and professionally executed) The result is a very attractive chair that can now be functionally used without the guilt often associated with using a delicate period piece of furniture. It has rather reticent turnings. With mild outlines of what would be bamboo turnings in more fully developed legs. The potty-seat windsor is almost always restored, though often it is done so inappropriately by cutting along the grain to remove the entire front half of the seat, ... morerebuilding the seat and nearly invisibly replacing the previous existence of the potty seat. However, that is the wrong way to maintain the legitimacy of the windsor- the correct was is identified in the landmark work by Charles Santore, The Windsor Style in America" FAQ from page 193) Q. How much does a potty-seat cutout detract from an otherwise good chair? A. Of all the various problems a period Windsor can be plagued with- such as broken or replaced legs. Stretchers, spindles, crest rail, or knuckles- a potty seat is the least serious. For if the potty seat is, or has been, repaired properly, that is, if the original contours of the seat are retained, the design of the chair will in now way be compromised. Q. What is the best way to restore a potty seat? A. Basically. There is only one proper way to restore a potty seat without diminishing the value of the chair, and that is to fill the potty-seat hole and only the hole. Thsi should be done with a round or square piece of wood that is as close to the size of the hole as possible and that leaves as much of the original seat intact as possible. The wood should be the same type as that of the seat, of approximate

Hand carved 19th century birthing chair H.
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The back of this chair is a little weak but still functional. The birthing chair also known as a“birth chair” is a device that is shaped to assist a person in the physiological upright posture during childbirth. On each side of the top back are two Victorian finlials. The seat is similar a carpet material. But may not be original. It looks great though. There is some fringe missing on the carpet on the top of the chair. This chair is from the 1800s. We bought it in an antique shop years ago and used it at Civil War Reenactments. It was easy to carry and really fit in. Shipping in the US: I will ship Fedex At this time HI. AK, PR are blocked from bidding. Orig. Early 19th Century Mahogany Upholstered Side Chair Wool Needlepoint
Authentic antique(early 1800's) mahogany or rosewood hand carved side chair with blue floral wool needlepoint seat. The seat upholstery appears to be either antique or vintage and needlepoint by hand(very well done) no snags. Tears, moth holes or odors. I can't say for certain if the upholstery is original to the chair. This is exactly how I purchased this chair at the Brimfield, MA Antiques Market twenty years ago. The seat is removable but has springs inside too(I think- it feels that way) Hand carved leaf crest, rounded spindles, splayed legs, serpentine seat(both the seat& the wood under it) curved side silhouette- very pretty& functional chair. Not a reproduction. No indication of maker& I do not know if it is American or European. It looks like early American Empire. In very good condition- no flaws to mention. Pick ... moreup only- absolutely no freight/shipping(sorry) We are in Berlin, 20 miles west of Oshkosh, WI.

Antique Hand-Carved Wood 19th Century Lion-Back Child's Chair
For your consideration. This gorgeous 19th century hand-carved child's chair, perfect for an antique doll. I'm not sure what kind of wood this is, but it looks like fruit wood and it is probably English, considering the subject of the lion carved on the back. You can see the old-fashioned nail heads throughout. All legs, sides and front of chair are carved. This is 24.25" high to the top of the back, 9" wide at the front of the seat, 9.5" deep, and seat height is 10" Please message me for any other measurements you might need. This has a crack going across the seat at the front and a finer one at the back, but it is secure. This chair is still solid and very nice! Weight is 5 lbs 7 oz. I do combined shipping. Hunzinger Chair Victorian Side Chair Antique Vintage 19th Century Aesthetic
Fig. 92. George Hunzinger U.S. Patent 176.314"Improvement in Chair Seats and Backs. April 18. 1876. New Technologies: Woven Wire and Interchangeability of Parts In 1876 Hunzinger secured his sixth patent for an ingenious alternative to traditionally upholstered chairs(fig. 92) The invention consisted of weaving a flat wire covered with a continuous woven textile into a regularized pattern by placing the wire into grooved channels on the seat and back frame and around oval-headed nails on the inner frame. The seat or back is composed of only two wires. One in each direction. Hunzinger announced: The chair seat or back is made with reference to the use of wire in place of cane, to form an openwork seat, and to insure great strength and beauty, and to facilitate the interweaving of the wires. The patent drawing, however, shows that this ... moreinvention was not immediately associated with a specific chair design as the earlier patents were. As in the case of the1869 diagonal brace patent, this invention was incorporated in a wide variety of chairs as well as on a unique settee and daybed. At first, in fact, the 1876 patent was often employed in conjunction with the 1869 brace. The first chairs to exhibit the 1876 wire seat and back frame also included the 1869 patent diagonal brace. Kimball's catalogue. Which is generally dated about 1876, illustrates several of these chairs(figs. 98 and 99) The price code tells us that the"Dining or Library" armchairs were available in walnut"with any color, braided wire seat and back" at a wholesale cost of $10.67 each. The chairs have mostly square members with incised decoration and carved crests in the Modern Gothic/Eastlake style and the square stretcher system supporting the front seat observed on the other chairs with the 1869 brace. These chairs too seem to have the potential to fold, but do not. Many variations on these chairs seem to have been made. The same model would be available as a side chair or put on runners to become a rocker. The des

Early 19th Century Antique English Smoker's Bow Windsor chair -circa 1820/50
Early 19th Century Antique English Smoker's Bow Windsor chair-circa 1820/50 A most unusual example of the perennial English antique classic. The Windsor chair. The chair is circa 1820 to 1850 and has so much character that one can invent many stories of its previous life. It features beautiful, hand-carved elements with thoughtful details; the outward curving of the arms mirror the curvature of the back rest. The chair is absolutely sublime in its quirkiness; the downward slant of the chair seat appears to be simply from years of repeated use. One could imagine a ship's captain using it as his desk chair and to practice his scrimshaw technique. The chair has patina and a repair and wood split at back of backrest. The right front leg has been repaired at seat. The chair is very stable and can be used without any reservations. Measurements ... moreare: seat height: 18 inches. Turnings, carving and proportions in maple including bird's eye maple. 19th Century Pierced Shaped Splat Scrolled Arm Rocking Arm Chair Penn Dutch
Antique 1840-1860 est. Pierced Splat Back. Scrolled Arm, Rolled Plank Rocking Arm Chair Turned Legs and stencil like painting- unsure if this is the original paint/laquer. The few others that I have seen have been green in color. And as you can see, this is brown. This has a great pierced Splat with fairly intricately hand cut wood The chair is very substantial and has overly thick scrolled wooden arms and rockers It has a great. Deep, rolled plank with some painted detail The chair is in fair condition for it's age. But has been repaired here and there over time. The left arm of the chair is loose, and should be properly repaired. The signs of age consist of typical issues- chipping or fading paint. Some loose(but repairable) joints, The wood has been weathered and that is apparent in the photos. The chair has survived over 150 years ... moreand I believe if properly cared for. It could make it another 150 years. This very same styled chair from the same region sold recently at Skinner's in Boston for over $400. This is a RARE and sought after. More rugged style with ample support. The chair measures 41.75" Tall 17" Deep and 20.5" Wide The arms and rockers are much more"meatier" than on most others that i've seen measuring 2" x 2" Sq. Again. There are signs of age and wear, and there have been repairs made in the past, some correct, and some not so. But the item has great structure and form and with a little patience and professional care could be repaired appropriately. Packing and shipping are available upon request and will be calculated at the time of the sale and will depend on the service that is chosen. And the packaging materials that are needed, also on the transportation costs that may be incurred. I suggest, if you may want this service, to get several estimates, as the chair weighs 60+ lbs and is obviously a larger item and may not qualify for the usual shipping companies and services Local Pick Up Preferred Feel free to ask if you have any questions regarding t
